Soulja Boy is the only artists who was truly independent when he came on the scene at 14 and made millions using streaming services. Think about it, everyone, this is how they got us to driving alone. 70s and 80s, everyone would ride in groups. The police started pulling Afrikans in Amerikkka over, saying that too many people were in the car. So, in the 90s, just 2-3 people riding together. In the early 00s, just 2 people riding together by mid 00s. You're riding by yourself. Look at time periods and the phrase while riding black. More of us were being killed and witnesses. My point is that the record labels are the police officers now. The record labels don't want you and homeboys getting together, creating companies that are cutting them out of the profits. Magically, rap groups are now considered gangs. See how that works? Divide and conquer!!

This was an important conversation that needs to be talked about more in perspective circles. I love that Dane added that positive spin towards the end. I feel the same way and can feel the culture shifting for the best. I have my own company in Colorado focusing on booking, marketing, promotion, organizing shows, and artist development for local artist. I see this narrative amongst younger artists and it can be difficult to navigate. I come from a conscious hip-hop/rap background . It's interesting that I came across this video. I was just posting in my story how I wanted to shift the consciousness of the collective music community in Colorado. And this video further inspires my effort. Denver and Colorado in general has a good energy surrounding the music scene. It's really just starting to create an identity, and its spirit seems a bit more community-oriented than other places. I grew up in Chicago. It's not like other big cities where the music industry has longevity and is well-established. I see the possibilities existing here and will make sure I do my part.

Industry plants are placed to forward an agenda. They are One. Each of them individually could be making minimum from streaming platforms, but it all goes in to one pot. Sealed with concert revenue. Feeds one beast. For real independent artists, selling your own music to your own consumer’s digitally 1)takes back the power of music distribution from thieving streaming platforms and places it back into the hands of the artist and 2) holds the artist/consumer relationship to a higher standard of efficacy and appreciation. You control what you listen to and purchase. It’s a symbiotic relationship. Then from there, you can build communities and businesses, and then promote agendas that reflect your standards.

The frequency…you see music being used as a weapon in real time. The characters sukiyaki and red play are intentional. We were only supposed to watch it and keep it pushing, yet the people have become what they see. It has shaped the views of how we are perceived by non-black people. You see the push! We gotta go harder than the media to change how we are viewed. For the kids sake at least. We talkin bout it but we are doin tho?

Hes speaking of streaming and record purchases in the same sense. $1.99 purchase of a record will yield maybe 12%. Streams are different people are paying for subscriptions and listening to several different artist not to mention all the people involved in the business of both the streaming company and record label that has to be paid. It’s a business and all businesses have a budget. When we talk about artist compensation we don’t talk about everything that is involved and all the people that have to get paid. They are on a national and some international platform and will develop countless opportunities to generate other forms of revenue. It’s not a rip off, it’s business. Could it potentially be better, yes, but business is not meant for the employee to get rich. An artist is an employee for the record label, that give them loans to develop their career and expand beyond music.

I respect Dane and the hip hop channel for years. Hip hop is entertainment. We don’t look at a movie and say “ Why was Freddy chopping people up or Why clock work orange had these misfits terrorizing everybody”. Those that write music are showing the creativity. Some paint inside the lines, some paint outside the lines and a few change the whole picture. I never look at anybody and think they represent the majority. Not even the president.

We destroy ourselves by continuing to listen to positive killing culture. Podcaster are also guilt because they want money and promoting/discussing brings in that income versus staying with positive and uplifting content. This video is a decent light to shine. People stop blaming other when you destroy yourself (it's weak to speak and blame somebody else when you destroy yourself). Welcome to the terror dome!!!!

Let's be real, let's come out of the fantasy. Nothing is going to change and things will get progressively worse! This isn't pessimism, it's realism! We keep trying to "have the conversation", while we have conversations on what to do, agendas are being done. Get over it, nothing will change!

I manage two artists. One is more conscious rap...one is more party/rap...both are extremely talented and great at their craft..both work hard..but guess which one receives the most support...

When everyone realizes we all have the same feelings and want to be treated with love and respect, then there will be no need to make it about gender. We all want empathy, consideration, and dignity from each other. Someone asks me all the time. How did you all have that black love back in the day? My answer is that our parents had it for their parents, and their parents had it for their parents. It was in our music, in our get-togethers, and in our schools (with black teachers) in our churches (you learn to dress up for church and how to better yourself that's why you had church clothes and those clothes became interview clothes and shoes) you were taught to carry yourself with dignity in our communities back then. The families that continue these traditions are better for it. We were We a family even though we weren't blood related. WE HAVE TO GET TO THAT!! your title wouldn't be used because you wouldn't shame yourself by attaching a cuss word to your name. Your name is your family 😤 👏🏾 Your name carries a lot of weight because you would stand 10 toes down on your name
