Awesome Homemade Lathe Bed Ready To Work
New projects homemade lathes bed (second lathe)
Hello RUclipsr, today I’m glad to share my new second homemade lathes.
I do happy to make a bigger size because my first lathe the size is a bit small, when milling a big plate of thick metal is not easy because the length is not enough space to milling than the plate metal I used is thin most are 10 mm thick.
So I decided to make a new lathe bigger than the previous lathe. Now there is enough experience to make a new lathe also.
I hope you all enjoying my new lathe from part 1.

Thanks for your comments I do hope you enjoyed my homemade now my next step is the table support body lathe. Because I take time to look at the gear rack, especially its pinion because different teeth very poor my place never have any tools as want if I found over prices.

    Stop apologising - 😁
As a trained and experienced machine tool fitter/turner, then I can say your doing a good job with limited tools - BRAVO.
My advice is not to fall into a perception trap, where your ideas are limited by what manufacturer's /others do..
Golden rule 1- PREP ALL WELDS remove millscale/bevel...
    No2 - NEVER machine and then weld/fabricate.
No3 - ALL metals are pre stressed(flame cutting, hot/cold roll forming..... De-stress(normalise) as best you can(heat soak metal in a controlled fire pit...).
    ❤️👍

Glad you found a rack and pinion for your lathe bed carriage. I would probably try to clean the pinion gear, maybe soak it in a baking soda solution, then scrub scrub scrub until it travels along the rack smoothly. Both parts will probably need a chemical bath. If you must replace one or the other there is a simple formula to give you a tooth count that will work if you change gear diameters.

Thank you, my dear friend. I'm so happy with my homemade lathe bed and carriage very nice and contact I can see how is the weight of the carriage cross slider and compound cider and tool post total 76kg but when I push it it feel like 4 or 5kg that is amazing otherwise no shack between rail and carriage. Tomorrow I will build a table to support the lathe body.
      I really appreciate your recommendation.
I am still looking pinion for the gear rack because pinion teeth to tight.

@@mr.ranyhomemade2466 yep if your bed is sliding along with a 1/10 force to weight ratio you've done well my friend!

And good luck, I hope you find one soon! Not sure how a rack and pinion from a vehicle steering system would work but may be worth looking into

Rack and.gear looks to be metric/imperial mix, but if they mesh OK, then set up a.saddle bracket arrangement, wth a shaft to carry the gear and lap the rack and gear with waste abrasive particles and thick oil. - pull rack back and forth while adjusting the height of the saddle clamp jig.
You'll get very high precision and super smooth action..

Seem to slow because I do not know the kind of tools and size of the gear.
I do learn a lot from you too. This project take so long because I did by hand.

some people say double V bed is better than single V or flat as the wear is more even and self-centering....but requires more precision to get both V's perfectly in same plane. Flat is the most economical version in terms of repair, but wears more.

Не закаленная сталь по не закаленной стали будут задиры при первой же нагрузке. Надо обязательно делать накладки из хороших пар скольжения.
