If you ever get the chance to, don't miss it. It is beyond your wildest imagination and the memories of traversing it are worth a lifetime of treasures.
Interesting methinks. The loco seems to producing large amounts of clag. But I've been a fan of this particular railroad for a wee while sure it's nothing like the Ffestiniog/welsh highland railway with its single and double fairley types and of course the ex south African narrow gauge Garrett locomotives. But nonetheless very spectacular. Cheers from new Zealand.
Since I rode behind engine 480 now I’m thinking about riding either 481 or 473 well you can’t tell which train you could take because it can’t be the same everyday
Alright 473 is back in operation it's great to have 2 K-28s in operation now two of the three engines are in operation can't wait for 478 to be rebuilt and the future
When did 473 go in for repairs? I was trying to remember the last time we rode on the train with that engine. I thought it was in 2006-08 but I could be wrong. Seems like we always end up on 480 or 482.
So 476,473 and 481 are running in the video and I know where 486,480 and 482 are in the video they’re in the roundhouse taking a rest or getting maintenance done
This steam train was the first steam train that i ever saw in my life because where i live there's no steam trains and where i live is in new mexico and i whent to colorado and thats when i saw the steam train
I lived there, in Silverton...my son was born in Durango and when he got out of HS, he worked for the D&S for a couple of years. He started on maintenance of way. He grew up with it...if you are going to go only once...the best time is to go halfway in the fall or in the winter. The summer is nice, but in the winter with the snow...and the creek...it is something really special. In the fall the tree colors are also very special.
It's staggering to think that this railway is still in operation 130 plus years later, never switching over to diesel engines (that's the impression I'm currently under).
Love that train trip. Probably done it more that ten times over the years. Including once during the fires when we had to take the short trip down from Silverton with the diesel engine. The little fire cart that follows the train would be my dream job but only if I could carry a gun for protection from the bears.
Their official rated top speed is 45 MPH. I doubt most of them have ever actually gone that fast. Around 30 or 35 would be the highest speed ever seen in normal use.
Great photography and locations on the D&S! Btw, did you and Mr. Armstrong make the trip together...seems to be similar to his video and you two live in the SD area.
Very well done! Love the shot from Silverton! If you enjoyed this video, you may also like this one on the same subject - ruclips.net/video/dHN2XpW2NAk/видео.html
Hello from Canada! My five year old son loved this video!
I used to live in Durango. Here's a tip. One couple takes the train to Silverton, another couple drives. Then switch on the way back.
Hey! There's my old coworker, Barrett Hayes @1:41 waving his hat! We used to work together at Legacy Station (a toy train shop) back in 2016! Lol wow.
Cnw#8701 isn’t legacy station in Georgia? Talk about a change of climate...
@@frankwankerl7021 Yep!
Amazing coverage on the D&S! I enjoyed this fabulous video!
Thank you!
Great video
Excellent video of train 🚂. 👍👍👍
I will be riding this wonderful train tomorrow!👍😁
This sure was a great video, gonna be making my first visit to D&S next week, and boy I sure am hyped for it
Well done
Good video, dude.
Some of these shots are the same as great American scenic railways old videos. Great to see the same locomotive still coal fired in 4K. Great video!
Welp... not anymore.
Absolutely brilliant!
0:20 That's some good stack talk!😁
Man, I wish I could go there!
If you ever get the chance to, don't miss it. It is beyond your wildest imagination and the memories of traversing it are worth a lifetime of treasures.
Very nice video !!!
The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a great train ride.
I want to go there so bad!!

I wish I owned a one of those steam engines!
Yep i think we all do
@@edwardcannon9199, I would use 484 from the C&TS because she’s reliable
The Silverton can’t be that expensive to own, can’t be over $100 mill tops, I have a couple thousand, let’s all pool our money
So 481,473 and 476 are running and I know where 482,486 and 480 are they’re in the shed
In November of 2020, my wife and I rode behind 493.
Amezing journey.

THAT BACK CAR IS THE OBSERVATION CAR
BUT NICE TRAIN VIDEOS.
GREAT video!! I had a great trip in June and looks like you had a great one in July! You have just earned a subscriber my friend!
Thanks!
Coaster3001 you’re welcome!

There is a possibility that I might be going here
I have this train in N scale. I’m trying to get some inspiration to make a small mountain layout for it.
Is it possible to widen the width of a narrow gauge engine?
This steam train was the first steam train that i ever saw in my life because where i live there's no steam trains and where i live is in new mexico and i whent to colorado and thats when i saw the steam train
A ride that makes me sleepy😪
I've been there 3 times 10/10 good experience would be 4 but came when 416 fire happen
I am totally jealous! I wanna go!
Same to me

Great video. Gotta love steam.
Thanks, always fun seeing steam locomotives at work!

Whatever happened to that 5 chime 476 use to wear
Thanks for sharing, I will be going in 2020. when is the best time to go? Would prefer to go in the summer months.
In my opinion, June is the best. Beginning of the summer, but you still might get to see some snow, and it'll be a lot less crowded.
Excellent!!! I want to ride! 👍

What is that little yellow cart all about? It watches to make sure the train don’t start a fire?
5:37 Somebody tell me what kind of whistle is that?
482's Rio Grande 5 chime
Does anyone know how fast these engines can go? What’s their max speed?
Their official rated top speed is 45 MPH. I doubt most of them have ever actually gone that fast. Around 30 or 35 would be the highest speed ever seen in normal use.
@@michaelramsey82 Oh interesting! It would be really something to see one of them go that fast!

Thanks! And No I didn't go with Mike, he actually lives in the Pacific Northwest now actually.
i think this channel is fans from Coaster
What if 476 can get a 6 Chime whistle?
Five chime imo be more appropriate
W jakim to jest stanie.
Cos wspanialego.
At the Start...You dang WELL BETTER STOP...because once that thing gets rolling, IT ISN'T going to stop.
Pretty big for a narrow gauge steam engine
Yes, they are all pretty husky, the 480- and 490-class engines especially so. . .
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
For pollution & environmental reason, Steam Loco should be replaced by Electric or Diesel Loco
Durango & silverton

You had the opportunity to play “The Silverton Train” but you decide not to. ( no offense. )
