No matter what anyone says Matthew I love your reaction and the fact that you take effort to read the synopsis in the beginning. You are one of my favourite reactors even though you are so new to the reacting thing. Love your work ❤️
Fantastic analysis once again...! And yes these songs are so comforting... I still need my daily dose of these wonderful yesteryear songs to feel good... 😊
Hi Matthew, i see you absolutely loved Devdas film... your reactions were priceless...who isn't a Madhuri fan!!! .... if no one has suggested it yet, if you love period films, the opulant royal settings, beautiful music, the simplicity of old era and songs which tell a story, please watch the songs from Mughal-e-azam.... it took 10 years for the director to complete this film...1950 to 1960.... it is my favourite film.... specific songs to watch....1. Pyar kiya to darna kya 2. Mohe panghat pe 3. Teri mehfil mein kismet...... its main female actor is Madhubala.....Let us know whom you think she resembles...enjoy 😊
One of the main reasons for such light and innocent moments in the movies was to entertain Audience and make them happy and forget thier tensions for 3 hrs, when there is so much struggle in the lives ( it differs from generation to generation) . However all countries have their Modes of Entertainment. India too has its own varying from dance, drama, story telling etc with different colors and styles. The Song and Dance Sequences are co related with the story, plot, timing, era, and mood or sentiment it wants to convey with their cultural backgrounds. It is important to understand Lyrics to get the Gist of the Song.
I was 1 year old when this movie was released..Got to see it in the early 80s thanks to the advent of a VCR..Had heard of this and other movies from my parents so when the became available on VHS tapes I just had to see all or most of them..and did just that.
Matthew India is getting greener now than it was in the last 50 years...We are growing a lot of forests and even the farmer are heading towards agroforestry. So in a decade or two expect a much lusher and forested India than it is now with wild animals in abundance.
Last year it snowed even in Nagaland, Manipur, and Meghalaya and these states hadn't had snow in over 40 years before that. So with more foresting a lot more states are going to get snow too.
Amazing reactions. Please please please please react to a song from DDLJ. It's probably the most classic and well known film in bollywood. Any song from that movie would be great. One of my faves is 'mere khwabo mein'
Hi Matthew.. Being a lover of old B&W Hindi/English movies myself, really like your reactions in-terms of presentation and review and mainly the fact that despite being a British person from an entirely different culture, you are able to understand and have sensitive appreciation for bollywood movies and songs of India... I would also like your reaction of one of the following old hindi songs: 1) Hai apna dil to awaara (Movie: Solva Saal 1958, starring Dev Anand) 2) Koi sone ke dilwala (Movie: Maya 1961 starring Dev Anand) 3) Hai dil kahan teri manzil (Movie: Maya 1961 starring Dev Anand) 4) Sar jo tera chakraye (Movie: Pyaasa 1957 starring Johnnie Walker) 4) Jaan Pehchaan Ho (Movie: Gumnaam 1965)
Very good analysis. The word aanchal means the pallu i.e. the end or part of the saree that falls behind the shoulder or it could be the dupatta worn over a salwar kameez. During that time period it would have been frowned upon to see a man holding a woman's aanchal who is not his wife. I agree that such innocence is lost today and no more visible in today's Bollywood films including the songs. Today's lyrics have fallen way below the standard. Dev Anand's mannerisms especially his style of nodding his head is easily recognisable and has been mimicked by many over the years. Nutan was also a popular actress and has done great work.
I'd suggest a sad song for a change, again a Dev Anand starrer - "Jaa Re, Jaa Re Ud Jaa Re Panchhi, Bahaaron Ke Des Jaa Re" sung by Lata Mangeshkar from the 1961 film Maya. It's one of those timeless gems. Dev Anand was know as the evergreen actor, 'cause as he got older, his heroines grew younger!
