    Drool. Look at the lovely, dark soft earth easily yielding to the shovel in this video. I have clay soil and I'm wondering if my best garden investment would be a jackhammer.

      You can improve your soil over time, but takes patience, lots of it. Add sand , plow it, and add as much compost as you can. In 4-5 years you can have a very good, healthy soil. It's pretty much up to you.

    Council Tool makes a USFS (forestry service) fire fighting shovel. It has a wooden handle and, the head is forged from a single piece of steel. A few other companies make similar shovels. Some come with fiberglass handles. The next step seems to be all steel shovels.

    Mattock
    A mattock /ˈmætək/ is a versatile hand tool, used for digging and chopping, similar to the pickaxe. It has a long handle, and a stout head, which combines an axe blade and an adze (cutter mattock) or a pick and an adze (pick mattock). A cutter mattock is similar to a Pulaski.

    Should have commented on the wheelbarrow which is just as important as the shovel. He's got the Jackson Contractor barrel with flatless tire. I picked one up at Lowes for about a hundred bucks, assembly required. The Jackson has the bracing steel leg stabilizing bars on the back and a steel plate on the front for dumping.

    This is very useful. Request: You know the 'big iron bar' at 2:21, could you do a longer series on just that, please? I'm curious other than digging big rocks out, I could use for more like put a rock in the middle use it as a 'fulcrum' to lift heavier objects? I would like to hear your opinion. Thank you.

    • @BritonAD
      @BritonAD 6 месяцев назад +1

      Your question is a year old, but I'll respond. It's a digging bar for yes rocks but also to break up hard ground for holes that go a couple feet deep where the hole is not wide like for fence posts. You can't use that pick for a hole that is only 8-12inches wide. You can use the digging bar as a fulcrum, but it would be hard because of trying to balance anything on that bar. The digging bar is round and not very wide.

    I'm a real underground construction worker and yea this guy is full of shit. I use a wooden handle shovel. Yea it breaks but if you get the deep socket it will last longer. And it's lighter. That heavy shovel will drain you in 2 hrs. Now u don't stomp on the shovel to get it in the ground because you will mess up your work boots and could twist your ankle. And the place where you put your foot at to drive it into the ground needs to be bent in ward like the one he uses. It just makes it easier to dig deeper. It will not get held up in deeper holes.

    GUYS WHO READ THIS PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME..
    Why westerners always use a 'shovel' for digging?! 🙄
    In my part of the world you can't dig an inch with a shovel no matter how heavy or sharp it is. We always use different kinds of hoes (not that tiny gardening hoes) for digging, clearing hard soil and agricultural purposes. We only use a shovel to move loose sand, concrete mixture and similar things.. so why's this?

    Not really accurate boys. Hours worth of searching and reviews show many of these Made in USA fiberglass handle shovels are snapping the first time they are used. Wood handles aren't worse than all these cheap shovels on the market today. The USA steel being used is alloys that are actually breaking the first time they are used as well. Idiots are in charge and trying to save money, resulting in useless products. Sad state of the USA today.
