    I think the Fat 50's are some of the very best Strat pickups. When I want cleans I go for these. When I want really high gain; the Hot Noiseless fit the bill.

      Sergi Yo once you listen to and play enough pickups you’ll find there are a lot of different single coil pickups that can sound quite different. I think Craiger is saying that this is the sound in his head that he thinks of as being a classic Strat tone.

    if you dont like the staggered poles just push them down. they are only set in wax. in fact, push from the back to raise and arc them to match the string radius so your volume is equal on all strings.

    I like them better with non-staggered pole pieces, like the ones in the Edge Signature Strat. As Fender doesn't sell them separately, I ordered a custom set from leosounds. With a special bridge pickup with coil tapping: First half gives a vintage tone, like the other pickups, then the rest of the coil is filled with thinner wire, which gives nearly the resistance of a DiMarzio FS-1 (which is in the bridge position of the Edge Strat). So I can switch between a vintage tone and a modern tone on the bridge pickup. Add a series/parallel switch for positions 2 and 4, and a switchable mid boost with a gain pot, a master volume and master tone. Extremely versatile, but very easy to use. I used three pushbutton switches (inspired by the Elite Strat from 1983), next to the 5-way switch (a 4p5t super switch), a configuration that I'd really like to see in a production guitar.

    I ask because the Fat 50s have staggered poll pieces originally designed for a 7.25 inch radius.

    • @LPKJFHIS
      @LPKJFHIS Год назад

      The one I’m playing has the 9 and a quarter radius (I could be slightly off but it’s the flatter radius) and has the fat 50s. Sounds great and it came from fender that way. I’m sure it has some affect and would maybe be optimized if the radius were matching but it’s probably minimal.

    Ok good people, here's the story and the word for any set of pu's.... it's a marriage. A 50/50 marriage between the pu's and the amp!!! Now, if you throw in a few pedals, then guess what, that marriage has been compromised to a less than a 50/50 ratio. What to do, what to do?? For purists, no pedals, NONE! Any other, it's all subjective to one's ears. So there you have it, welcome to Hollywood cheesecakes...

    You’d have to pair them with brighter pickups like Tex-Mex or 69 Pickups for middle and bridge. And possibly Seymour Duncan for the bridge cuz Fender bridge pickups suck ass

      @@RideAcrossTheRiver it's def not what a traditional strat sounds like, despite the name, these are very untraditional pickups. it's just these pickups are VERY consistent and unusual. incredible balance, unlike most strat pickups that have normal strat quirks, but they sound a little weird when alone- a little bit much of the low midrange compared to other single coils, making them sound like a weird hybrid b/w single coils and hum buckers, if that makes any sense. putting them in a band context helps, as they cut through mixes very well, and sound killer on the middle position. you'd have to play them to realize just how unique they are, but they sound fantastic, despite the video failing to prove that, making them seem muddy. sorry for the world salad, just wanted to let people know a little about the pickup if they choose to look at the replies of this :)
