    Hi guys, I hope you enjoy this stitch ! One tip- as I was working on my blanket, I noticed making the larger foundation chain wasn’t as necessary as the classic finger knitting stitch. It was looking too gappy . I started over and made my chains about 2 inches long instead of 2.5 -3 . My point is, just play with this and see what is looking best for you and gives you the straight edge you want. You might need to do a few rows to see like I did and then start back over 💕

      So from what I understand from your tip you are saying to only make two inch loops instead of two-and-a-half to three inch Loops all the way through the blanket?

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  Год назад

      @@janareidy4195 I’m saying make each loop about 2.5 inches high since you’ll be working yarn in front and back of the loops. 💕

    You do such a lovely job showing how to do finger knitting, thank you. I was wondering if you could show how to add a stripe of color around the edges of a blanket? I’m also seeing little corner tassels are being added to blankets these days but I’m not sure how to attach them. Thank you for your videos!

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  2 года назад

      Oh interesting, I am not sure what you mean about adding a stripe of color around the edges but probably the easiest way to do that would be to fasten on at a corner and just work your way around . The knit stitch would be going in a different direction from from the body of the blanket. But that would be the easiest way to do it.
      Tassels are pretty easy . Here is a video where I share how to add tassels to a scarf but you could do the same thing for your blanket . 🧶💕

      I don’t know off hand but you can calculate a guesstimate with a formula I share in the most frequently asked questions video that I mentioned in the beginning of this one. You’ll find a link to it at the end of the video and in the description box below the video

    Hi I have a question about a blanket I'm hand knitting and can't find a video of yours that has the answer..... How do I add another ball of yarn to my blanket, not to continue in length (I know how to do that) but to add to the side of it? It's not wide enough. Do I just pick up an end loop for every row? Sorry, I hope I'm explaining it clearly 🤦🏼‍♀️ hope you can help!

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  2 года назад +3

      That’s going to be tricky . I haven’t personally tried it so I’m not sure the best way to guide you on that. Your idea is a good one.
      So maybe create a new chain row at the base of the original blanket and then connect to the loop on the side of the blanket to start each row. The seam will probably be noticeable, though, so it might be best just to start over with the width that you want. I know you don’t want to hear that. 😆 I’ve been there, I know that sucks.
      Keep me posted and I’ll see if I can figure it out too.
      If I do I’ll do a video about it 👍🏻💕

      @@PlayHookywithMe Thank you for replying, I've never done any knitting before and once I watched your videos I ordered some super chunky yarn, followed your steps and the loops just very easily turned into a small blanket 😀
      I will try and connect a chain at the bottom and then loop each row as I go. If I have no success then my little dog will have a snug blanket & I will start again. For my first try I am so pleased with myself 🙈😊

    How many stitches should you do for an extra large blanket like a throw blanket?

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  2 года назад

      Not sure- I would recommend that you grab a tape measure and then chain to the width you want it to be. That’s how I always start mine. I don’t focus on the chain count because it varies from person to person depending on the tension they use.

    Can this stitch be used for the Christmas tree skirt?
    If so, how would you adjust?

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  2 года назад +1

      Sure , you could use this stitch for the tree skirt. If you want the ends to match then you would have to change the initial count of your chain count to an odd number. But if you aren’t concerned with that , then just work the skirt with the chain 16 as shown in the video 🧶💕

    I have a question for you. Does learning to finger knit help you learn how to crochet with hooks?

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  Год назад

      No, this won’t help you learn how to crochet because finger knitting is more in line with knitting than crochet.
      The only similarity with crochet is that we are making a “chain” instead of “casting on” to start the blanket
      ( chaining is a crochet technique and casting on is a knitting technique).
      The short answer , finger knitting helps you learn how to knit without needles.

    How many multiple stitches are there? I want to make a 20x24 baby blanket

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  Год назад

      A multiple isn’t necessary. Chain to the width you want your blanket to be making sure it is an odd number.
      In the video I also mentioned it took me 7 chains to reach one foot (12 inches)
      So that means you would approx need 21 chains to reach your 20” if you’re using the same yarn. Be sure to test this for yourself especially if you are using a different brand 👍🏻
