  • PLEASE NOTE: This is not a tech channel, but simply a show-and-tell. It is not designed to give advice and support on vacuum tube amplifiers but to show what I get up to each week in the workshop.
    I deliberately keep tech talk to a minimum, or at least to a point where it’s understandable to the casual viewer. There are other channels more suited to that level of detail.
    I do not do reviews, either paid or unpaid. My opinions are entirely my own and do not represent those of others.
    All comments are welcome but those deemed unhelpful, rude, inappropriate, or unsavoury will be reviewed and possibly censored.

    Been watching you a short while now. Love your ethic and your work. You remind me of me, except you've successfully transitioned to building/repairing amps full time, and I have not... yet ;-) Good on ya! Very well done!

    Hey Chris,
    I use a large "lazy susan" (turntable) for even more access to the chassis. Keeps me from having to contort my self/hands especially to reach the right angles when soldering. Has a 28" diameter perfect size

    I really enjoyed this episode Chris. Definitely appreciate you giving us a bit more understanding behind the philosophy of Rift. Unfortunately for me, a Rift amp isn’t in my budget at the moment but I’ve got to say, I really love the way you do business! A passionate and talented creator who has quality, integrity and honesty at the heart of what he does isn’t something you see everyday sadly but it makes it even more special when you do come across someone like yourself. Plus your amps sound absolutely phenomenal!
    Congratulations on the win at Silverstone! As a big motorsport fan myself I’d love to hear and see more about your on track adventures!

    Good luck swapping out the caps on that AC30 CC (the original once are cheap sh*t), its a real PITA to do that as you can't move the PCB w/o desoldering certain connections.
    Also inspect the Rectifier Tube Socket (no idea why there is a PCB Type there) if it has the correct pin numbering, I have seen several with sockets showing incorrect Pin Nrs (and it's a good idea to install backup diodes there)....

    Better to be happy in your own skin doing what you love than trying to be something that you aren't. Also the easiest way to make a million in the music business is to start with two million! Keep up the great work!

    Hello, I am enjoying the tape player video very much. One question, where is the third triode sitting as a valve? I was assuming the DM valve was a magic eye? Happy to know. Regards from Australia....Anthony

    Very nice discussion of your work/life philosophies - nice clear and simple. How long did it take you to get to this point? I’m 64 and mine still flexes as I learn more.

    I love Oulton Park in the simulator. I can only imagine how great it would be in real life.

    • @RiftAmps
      @RiftAmps  3 месяца назад +1

      It's very undulating, bumpy, and tighter than the sims suggest. The kerbs at the chicanes are huge too. Mega circuit.

      @@RiftAmps I nearly wrote my old RX7 off there on a track day when an Elise decided to overtake in a bend - both aimed for the same apex! Not entirely their fault as I was still finding my feet and may have given off mixed signals by letting a few cars past on the preceeding "streight".
      iRacing doesn't really do it justice for sure.

    Why were people saying an AC30 is class A for so many decades? Even Brian May said it.

    • @RiftAmps
      @RiftAmps  3 месяца назад

      Because it's easier than saying "it operates in conditions similar to Class A" ;)

    Wow, congrats with the Silverstone trophy.
    Nice Vox ac30 you got in. I love Vox amps and is a owner of a Vox AC30HW60 - handwired and '64 specs build in 2017 at the Marshall site, so no reverb, no FX loop and no master volume. All is good.
    QA:, i am just curious, how do you measure cap leaks?
    Best regards

    • @RiftAmps
      @RiftAmps  3 месяца назад +1

      I have a high-voltage cap tester that measures leakage

    Hello Chris. It seems to me that your bench fee is on the low side, even with the outrageous 20% VAT. But I live in a large US city. I don't know exactly where you are and whether people in your area are affluent or not.

    • @RiftAmps

      My prices are inline with the rest of the UK. You forget how small the UK is relative to the US...you can drive 2 hours in nearly every direction and you'll hit the sea!

    Hi Chris, are there any good resources or any advice you'd have for those looking to do some basic maintenance on amps themselves/looking to get into that side of things a bit more? Obv only very basic things but question comes from a place of interest in the subject rather than any desire to save money!!! Thanks!

    • @RiftAmps

      RUclips, books, Google....but the best way is to build a few pedals and amp kits
