That "Airbrake" was the engine retarder to slow down the lorry without touching the brake pedal. They need it for example on slopes to prevent brake overheating. Like me, so knowledge can spread.
That truck was using what we call a Jake brake here in Australia :) It's an engine braking mechanism which opens exhaust valves in the cylinders after the compression cycle, releasing the compressed air trapped in the cylinders, and slowing the vehicle.
I just wanted to take a moment RJ to wish you and yours a Happy New Year. I have enjoyed your videos for quite a while now. Circumstances will not allow me at this time in my life to do two things I'd like to do: travel and ride. Too many injuries......too many other problems. Someday I hope to do both. Your videos are an inspiration in that respect. So I'll keep watching......and keep on learning more about the lovely city of London. And continue to be inspired to someday learn to ride as you do. Meanwhile I make due with my wonderful Saleen Mustang...........
I love the sound of that bike! if I needed some milk from down the road i'd ride to the shop just to experience the noise of the engine! never mind it would take me twice as long! Here's me, a failed Vespa rider with my helmet and jacket stuffed in the loft, so keep up the good work my friend, I love what you do!
At 0:20, I spent longer than I'm willing to admit trying to find who gave RJ a thumbs up.. I even paused the video at moments when he passed peds. I feel ashamed T-T.
NikonPlays once I was driving home from work and at a stop light there was some big Ass peterbuilt that flew past me jake braking with a straight piped exhaust, it was so loud lol
2:57 Yep, that was the engine brake. In the US we typically call it a Jake Brake (dude who invented it, his name was Jake). Mentioned the US name for it because that there is a US truck. It would probably be an earlier Peterbuilt 389.
I don't own a motorcycle, i don't even have a licence for it, but still i enjoy your videos so much it's crazy. Last month i started saving up for a grom and my licence, can't wait to start enjoying my life at least a bit more than i do now :)
I'm thinking of getting a grom too, I just fell in love. I don't think my parents would allow that though, even when I'll be over 18 lol, and I'm a bit sceptical too.
2:30 no it's the engine brake. Look up some videos on them they sound incredible. They are used to prolong the life of the discs. But can be quite loud.
RJ I cannot express how calming you London filtering vids are to me. I watch them on the edge of my seat and then drive home with my blood pressure going down to healthy levels. It makes me thankful all I have to fear are deer on my daily commute. Despite the seeming random crossing events, the Deere on my Commute are big and green, and visible for a mile or two. Sometimes the danger is big and red or big and orange and proves John Deere does not do the only road crossings. RJ please do not filter a Deere harvester ever. That would make my BP go up.
At 4:36 i thought 'hm what might the other bike be' and then, almost unnoticable over the noise of rj's bike, i heard that little wistleing sound and thought 'fuck Yeah! Triumph!'
David Rodriguez Lopez actually, a guy here bought one of the trucks that were featured in the movies when it went for auction... but i think he must got some special permits for it as it doesn't fit any of our pollution regulations...
You know what would be interesting RJ? To take a week of filming and detailing the number of violations committed, however small, I think it would give new riders a good idea of what they're up against our there on the roads. I would do it in Greece but I don't have a camera. And here it would probably make a half hour drive into a 2 hour stop and start expose on Athens street life! If I ever get a camera though I think I would like to do that.
RJ, it happens when the driver isn't driving the way he's supposed to. LOL Hear it here in the States all the time. Of course, I live near a Peterbilt factory so that might be 1 reason why.
Hard to tell over the sound of the Nuda, but that was a compression release engine brake (aka Jake Brake)en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_release_engine_brake .Nice looking Peterbilt 379, by the way.
+Tom Boughton Caught my eye too, I thought you'd recovered a bike from the 50s. Wish my memory was better, but I remember one of my father's friends had one that looked very similar. Nice looking bike, stay safe all.
Question for everyone. What are those pedal bikes with an engine attached called? I don't mean the old bikes that were halfway between a scooter and a push bike. I mean those bikes that are more modern in design. Sort of like someone went to Halfords, bought a simple 10speed mountain bike, took it home and attached a lawnmower engine.
Oh shit that 125 brings back memories, I miss riding my 125, right now it is -23 degrees Celsius and about 40 centimeters of snow aka not ideal for motorcycle riding
Great channel RJ, what would be your first advice for a person that's never been on a motorbike but is interested in owning one? and if you were to start out from the very beginning what will you do different?
I'd like to add something here. If you can, get a bike with ABS. A lot, and i mean a LOT of experianced riders will tell you to get a bike without ABS as your bike to learnt the limits of braking. I very strongly disagree. I feel very strongly about this. And this is why. Say you get a bike without ABS as your first bike. Then imagine someone pulls out on you. Naturally, you brake as hard as you can. Doing that, you'll lock up the front wheel and you'll drop the bike, damaging your bike and/or yourself. The same scenario with ABS 0 you just activate the ABS. My point is this... If you don't have ABS, and you brake really hard and drop the bike, you learn "that was too much braking force. I shouldn't brake that hard in the future." You learn that lesson, but you've damaged your bike and/or yourself. Now, if you have ABS and do the exact same thing, you merely activate the ABS and still learn the same lesson - if you were on a bike without ABS, that would have been too much braking force and you would have dropped it, so you won't brake that hard in the future (if you're on a bike without ABS). I would LOVE to hear someone's opinion who say that you should learn on a bike without ABS first. How can you argue about what i said? Which is better, activating ABS and realising that you braked too hard, or dropping the bike and realising that you braked too hard? I honestly don't get where these people are coming from! So my advice to you as a new rider would be this. Get a bike with ABS. Go to an empty car park late at night. Ride at 30mph and see how hard you can brake without activating the ABS. Then up it to 40mph. Then 50mph. Then 60, if you can. The two most important things when riding a bike are 1 - how hard can i brake without locking up the wheels and dropping the bike, and 2 - is this person going to pull out on me? ALWAYS assume that they are! ALWAYS. If they don't, then think "well they didn't, but the next one will! Also, when passing junctions with cars waiting to pull out, look at the car's wheels rather than the body of the car. The wheels are the first thing that you notice move. I think all car drivers should have to do a CBT first. I strongly believe that if all car drivers had to experience what it's like on 2 wheels then they'd look out for bikers a lot more! And if you drive a car and are just reading this - LOOK for bikes, and you will see the cars. I hope that makes sense. What i mean is, car drivers don't look for bikes, they just look for cars. If you actively look and check for a little bike, then you're not going to miss a big car! So, PLEASE at junctions, look for bikes, and you will see the cars. (I had a car driver pull out on me and nearly run me over! I stopped, but they kept pulling out right in to my path even though i had my horn blaring! He said "Where did you come from?" I said "i was just driving down the road! How did you not see me?" and he said "i don't know." Sorry for the long comment everyone!
RJ, I'm surprised that the cop didn't pull you over for the roundabout move in the first clip. That was illegal. You pulled out on people already on the roundabout. That wasn't filtering.
RJ, how come every so often in london you come across double red lines as appose to double yellows? Do they have a different meaning/purpose? Great video I should point out too :)
2:29 it's the jake brake, engine brake
That´s right
Never heard of that, learned something new today :)
Usually called an Exhauster in the uk, same thing, different name
RumbleBelly It basically gives me a hardon everytime i hear it.
Martin Snoeij Haha ja, I know what you mean :D
My question is WHY would you ever want to drive car in THAT traffic.
I agree... cycling and motorbikes are the way to go
To become hero😂
instablaster.
Glorious London scenes. You pick the most glamorous areas to cruise.
seems that you have everything in London, even Transformers :)
Actually the latest transformers movie (still to come out) was filmed here! (parts of it of course).
looks like Optimus Prime liked it very much and became a resident
Zé that may have been the truck for prime notice the cover for the back were the trailer hitches to and is a US truck in London?
even the Transformers are escaping from Trump
MMOJunkie lol the bloody world im on a bus no nice and warm w my mtb on front 2.20 one way
That "Airbrake" was the engine retarder to slow down the lorry without touching the brake pedal. They need it for example on slopes to prevent brake overheating. Like me, so knowledge can spread.
The sounds that emit from RJ's range of bikes, are just orchestral. The soundtrack to a happy mood for me...
2:50 The sounds you hear are the J-brake or an open exhuast vent that increases the trucks engine braking force. Not sure if theres more to it...
Thank you for all your inspiring videos RJ..
1:58 i was like thats one of the greatest sounds i've ever heard
That truck was using what we call a Jake brake here in Australia :) It's an engine braking mechanism which opens exhaust valves in the cylinders after the compression cycle, releasing the compressed air trapped in the cylinders, and slowing the vehicle.
Thanks for the feature at 9:02 RJ! Hoped you liked the CBR
You are welcome, two very nice bikes, enjoy :)
Triumph triples sound soo cool even with the stock exhausts.
As always a great video. Without a doubt you are the King of Filtering. You get through the tightest places. Keep having fun.
I just wanted to take a moment RJ to wish you and yours a Happy New Year. I have enjoyed your videos for quite a while now. Happy New Year and thanks for you support over the years :)
I love the 2 subs on bikes reactions. respect RJ
GlobalMongrel haha thank you
Tom Boughton was that you on there then? which bike?
I love the sound of that bike! if I needed some milk from down the road i'd ride to the shop just to experience the noise of the engine! never mind it would take me twice as long! Here's me, a failed Vespa rider with my helmet and jacket stuffed in the loft, so keep up the good work my friend, I love what you do!
Evertime i whatched your vids i am impressed that you can handly such a big bike like a SuperDuke through the Traffic.
At 0:20, I spent longer than I'm willing to admit trying to find who gave RJ a thumbs up.. I even paused the video at moments when he passed peds. I feel ashamed T-T.
I feel like I would go insane with the amount of constant traffic every day. I guess that is one reason to get a good motorcycle.
The 2 guys on the bikes were amazing :D
hahaha thank you :)
Tom Boughton You're the Cbr guy? hehe
darksoulesp_ haha no, I'm the one with the silver bike
Tom Boughton nice bike tho :P
thanks :) old style with new werent we Tom?
*02:35** Optimus sprime* :D :D
2:29 it's basically an engine powered brake, the engine revs up a little and uses that power to stop its big ass
NikonPlays once I was driving home from work and at a stop light there was some big Ass peterbuilt that flew past me jake braking with a straight piped exhaust, it was so loud lol
Just wondering is the jake brake an exhaust brake, down in Australia we just generally call it exhaust brakes.
+Adventure Squad, is this Chris Eubanks truck? not too far from Brighton, he's such a poseur!!!
silverGTO TwinTurbo what lol
2:57 Yep, that was the engine brake. In the US we typically call it a Jake Brake (dude who invented it, his name was Jake). Mentioned the US name for it because that there is a US truck. It would probably be an earlier Peterbuilt 389.
8:29 what is that for a machine? that retro cafe look looks awesome!
The Bikevlog Channel my best mates bike its called mutts motorcycles i was the one on the white CBR

We have some cool cafe racers around London!
Thomas Boughton it's a lovely bike.
Start saving up, maybe they will let you get it, who knows :)
KnezAlex Hopefully
2:30 no it's the engine brake. Look up some videos on them they sound incredible. They are used to prolong the life of the discs. But can be quite loud.

2:45 that was the engine brake, that's the sound it makes when the valves close
the loud sound on that american truck is called a jake brake. it is a sort of engine break, which sounds fantastic.
Never noticed before, but the brake fluid on the Nuda is REALLY clear.
As it should be
ur videos give me a sense of peace
Minute 2:30 was the engine brake. Beautiful sound of the truck. Good videos greetings from argentina
2:48 Correct me if I'm wrong, aren't Americal-type trucks (not flat front) not allowed in Europe?
+Jimmy De'Souza I see, thanks for the info. I always thought there was some kind of "special law" prohibiting long front trucks here.
7:00 Are Infinitis common in the UK?
I love the sound of the BMW, I wish you'd ride it more.
RJ proves that if you are a good person you'll get the same back at you. Everyone gets what they deserve.
01:25 police men in germany would never ride like this. jealous.
JmitMotos Schön ein Deutsches Vorbild hier zu finden :D

Always happy to see your new videos... keep em coming : )
2:34 Must be a huge fan of the transformers movies
or RJ recorded it when they where in London filming the movie
David Rodriguez Lopez actually, a guy here bought one of the trucks that were featured in the movies when it went for auction... but i think he must got some special permits for it as it doesn't fit any of our pollution regulations...
At 2:30, that was a jake break. uses the engine to break. Less wear and tear on the brakes

If I ever get a camera though I think I would like to do that.
Haha, naughty copper! Not meant to over take while oncoming traffic is moving! (Not that we don't all do it!) 😄
what was that 125 that the subscriber had called?
Mutt mongrel
You have such low speed bike control in traffic. I would go crazy if I had to like you. Be safe & Happy New Year to you.
I watch all of your videos :)

What was the bike that one of the 2 subs was riding, I can't make out what he said?
Hi its mine, It's called a mutt mongrell 125cc
Nice looking bike man, I don't ride personally but that caught my eye.
+Tom Boughton Caught my eye too, I thought you'd recovered a bike from the 50s. Wish my memory was better, but I remember one of my father's friends had one that looked very similar. Nice looking bike, stay safe all.
Look for Lexmoto Valiant, Sinnis and many others also make a copy of it.
What is the BMW1000Rs xhaust
Hasan Çelik
See RJ's website for all the mods: reel.tv/#!bmw-s1000r/
I keep riding my bike on the track, but this one rider keeps kicking my ass!
Ritchie V is it the rider27?
How do you record your videos where the audio has no wind noise?
2:50 motor braking or exhaust brake :)
2:48 thats the exhaust brake.
RJ you have great skill! You should create a movie with stunts with your bikes?

So many SUV's a people carriers being occupied by a single person - crazy London traffic

I like the new helmet!
do you ride through centre london every day ?
The 2 subs bike is awesome💯👍👍

from Chile, congratulation for the video, 👏👏👏👏
How do you change from just he bike audio to the outside audio? It confuses me ever time
Z
RJ records sound in 2 ways: internal mic of camera, and external mic in jacket pocket. At time of editing he decides which one to use.
Ed van Andel makes sense lol
Optimus Prime at 2:50 so nice
Oh shit that 125 brings back memories, I miss riding my 125, right now it is -23 degrees Celsius and about 40 centimeters of snow aka not ideal for motorcycle riding
Could be mistaken but was watching this with headphones and I'm sure somebody shouts "RJ" at 2:56
Great channel RJ, what would be your first advice for a person that's never been on a motorbike but is interested in owning one? and if you were to start out from the very beginning what will you do different?
Go to your nearest bike training school and try it, and I wouldn't do anything different.

SR1Records I highly appreciate your comment/advice..Thank you.

Jake brake, not air brake. You guys use peterbuilts over in the uk? I'v only seen them in America
2:47 It was motor brakes ☺
That's an awesome lean lol
RJ, are you familiar with the name of this guy's helmet? 9:15 it looks so cool!
ThermiysticMGK
That sub Tom Boughton also commented. Ask him.
oh yeah thanks
ThermiysticMGK hey man, it's a biltwell helmet, not sure the model but have a look at their website :)
thanks bro!
I don't think this helmet is legal in the UK, check Bell Bullit instead
6:16 how is that guy not wearing gloves?
the truck did not use air brakes. instead it used the engine brake, which drops the revs and slows the engine down, used for stopping quickly.👍👍
This exhaust nuda is leovince?
yes
It is amazing 😁
Keep calm and YoutuBike ;) You are my fav so far. Thx.
what video setting do you record on?
what is the bike in 8:34and 9:06 the one in the right

RJ, I'm surprised that the cop didn't pull you over for the roundabout move in the first clip. That was illegal. You pulled out on people already on the roundabout. That wasn't filtering.
that introduction 😍
how can i spot this guy in london? just from his bike and the fact he has a black visor?
Listen for his pipes!
his helmet is always Schuberth and Nuda is quite a rare bike i think..
4:15 You scared the shit out of that lady
Snap back to reality!
did you try to ride on Yamaha mt 07?
hey RJ. LOVE the new Intro. and happy new year
RJ, how come every so often in london you come across double red lines as appose to double yellows? Do they have a different meaning/purpose? Great video I should point out too :)
Jesus Christ
Something to read:

Thanks it helped a lot 🙂
Any idea where i can buy a new nuda (unreg)?
Doubt you'll find any
Did you feature a video of one of your subs at the end of your video or what? Great video. Cheers from Canada!
Ashawkys
Yes, in each DO since about 2 years. Read the description.
What part of London do you live near? Trafalgar Square?
TheFraggle57
That's just on the way to and from work.
I didnt get the first one. Can someone explain ?
Pavel Řačák
There was a huge statue of a 'thumbs up'.
Oh thx :D
