Well I just bought the Tusk CV boot kit and was sent some totally different "ear band boot" clamps that look nothing like the clamps in this video. Also, the Tusk banding tool that the video says you need does not work with the ear bands they sent me so that was a waste of money. You guys really need to update these video's if Rockymountain ATV is going to send out different stuff. Thanks to Cleon the tech chat guy who told me what kind of clamps I had after sending him a photo. I then googled the information and found out how to tighten them as I have never replaced a CV boot before.
Great instructional video. Well done. I have a 2004 Yamaha Rhino 660. I get a bad "squeak" from the driver side front axle whenever I make any degree of a left turn. I have change the yoke bearings and the brake pads to no avail. I have read many comments about a "clicking" or "popping" noise associated with CV axle failures but was wondering if you think its likely my squeaking is also from the CV axle since it only happens when I make any degree of left turn. Thanks.
May want to mention that not all outer cv joints just tap off, my circlip had square edges and was designed to be compressed to release. As such and not knowing that, a couple of good taps blew the casting apart and destroyed the joint...
Very nice. Ordering an outer ASAP for my General. I already replaced it on a trip, but am gonna rebuild the stock to have as a spare for next time. Great video!
Well done and very informative, I tried to work on removing the outer cv it didn't go out of the axle I hammered the inner race but it was impossible to remove out, and I am sure it is a clip type . Do you recommend any way to remove the joint please . Thank you
If you have the original clamps reuse them, they are superior. To take them off, squeeze togther the tabs and lift end off hooks. They click together same way.
A very good inservice. My question centers around the cv axles not coming out of the front gear case. I’ve tried everything. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thx
I am trying to replace a front outer cv boot. I need to take off the outer cv joint with a punch and a hammer but it doesn’t move at all. Any other ways to take this off?
U must show what way the senter of the joint is facing. The smaller side of it uot facing the wheel ... is many ways to miss understand this! Not good..
Not sure. I haven't worked on a John Deere and don't have any available info on it. I'd verify that you don't have a retaining clip on there before hammering it off. -Charles
Where can I find the snap ring that is at @10:25? I tried removing my front axle using a slide hammer motion but ended up pulling the cage and balls out with the axle leaving the inner joint cup assembly still attached in the differential. Now that is stuck and I have yet to get it out. I've tried ratchet straps and mallet which didn't work for me. Now I'm rigging up a slide hammer to get it out. Have yet to try that method as I had to order a slide hammer. Any ideas where to buy the snap ring or the size? I also welcome any ideas on how to remove the cup. Cheers!
Use a slide hammer. To you can borrow one from your local auto parts store. Slide the round disc part of the slide hammer into the cup . Clamp a vice grip on each side of the cup. Pull on the hammer side and it should pop out
nice video! i just want to know, if the CV joint in both axle parallel, will the cage be freedom at any degree place? such as maths 0/0, have unlimited solute? hope see your opinion, thanks!
I have an axle like this with 2 joins in it on the REAR of my hammerhead buggy, they don't click because the back wheels don't move left or right only forward, But are the parts that join onto the shaft supposed to have play side to side? Like I can pull it almost off the shaft
Just got mine apart, some of these aftermarket dont use a clip or a snap ring,, Mine inner front are pressed on. I got it apart with my press , it took some doing it was on there good. I am just replacing the boot I dont want to take the outer apart , going to have to get creative to find a way to hold the axle when I press it back on. May have to do the heat and hammer thing.
