Micah, AWESOME job with the research! I'm particularly fond of the Contemporary Resort, and have been going since the 1970s, so I have a couple of minor comments. Mr. Brown was not at the main check in desk when he was responding to his overhead page, he was actually further down at the far end, near the Fiesta (Food and) Fun Center entrance, right on the corner. You can see part of the "Center" sign to the left of the desk, and that separate L-shaped counter is no longer there (I believe it was used for general information, and airline information for a while). So, it was immediately next to the current "tunnel" Steak House 71 entrance that now juts out into the lobby. He then walked up against the back wall/far wall of the lobby (beyond and behind the escalators) when the Mousketeers came in yelling at each other; you can see the slanted support columns and "Telephone" sign in the background, and the restrooms were (and still are!) in the same spot, but now you have to walk to the RIGHT side of the Steakhouse 71 entrance tunnel to get back there. Retro WDW's recent post on 3/09/2024 with a restored EARLY 1970s Contemporary Resort home movie, shows the Fiesta Food and Fun Center/The Wave/Steakhouse 71 when it was STILL just the lobby convention space, and no arcade (at 2min49secs in) !!
It's looks like 1977 Disney world and Disneyland before TV's show on doing 90s years of view and Disneyland Disney world series finale season of mousekatrs at Walt Disney world park history channel interview review history books documentary about biography book club in movie theater
Siblings and my parents came in 1975. Loved Tom Sawyer Island the best, and Space Mountain. My mom is still mad at us for making her do Space Mountain. We had been on many coasters already, so oddly the rest of park leaves little memory. Toms Island was the best, because it was our "Diagon Alley". The Tom Sawyer book AND the movies brought to life in an immersive island. I suspect that's sort of odd to some of you - but all of our nostalgia and connection has fun little twists and differences
I remember Disney World right after it opened. I saw that special in 1977 on the Wonderful World show. Great job of revisiting the locations. River Country was fun. Discovery Island was super cool. I didn't know there was anything left of the wrecked boat on Discovery Island. That was neat.
Yes I am really remember it I just saw it on Disney Plus before I can find out do it again this year contact with them are in 1977 TV show episode season of 100th birthday party anniversary celebration party years documenty biography
I recorded this special on VHS from Vault Disney and I watched the monorail and River Country scenes over and over. Your video is awesome! Thanks! I watched this special with a group of monorail cast members and we commented how the monorail stopped at the south end of the Contemporary, not the north end that has the actual station, probably because it was easier to record there.
I watched the show on Disney+ after watching this. They certainly knew how to make cheese back in those days. It’s a pity Disney didn’t spend a few bucks restoring the show though.
I'm amazed they were able to put it on Disney+ with the commercials still in place! They didn't edit it at all! Some Disney fan at D+ sneaked this is to the line-up, you just KNOW it!
Wow. I didn't know that Blair from the 80s tv show "The Facts Of Life" was a 70's Mouseketeer. I had to confirm with IMDB when I saw her in this video. Great vid man.
I remember watching the Mickey Mouse club back when it was on in the 70's. As a kid. I liked it as I remember. But I was a fan of the classic Mickey mouse club
One of the girls was Lisa Welchel. I figured that out from one of your pics. I went to River Country once. I really wasn't impressed with it. But after Typhoon Lagoon was opened, I love that place. I am more of a water slide type person that just floating around in a pond of water.
