    Thanks for posting this. I found it extremely useful. I've got the same symptoms on a Pioneer PD - S502. Not the same unit obviously, but there are similarities and you're video saved me time. Cheers.

    I was getting ready to try and fault find an old PD S507 that wouldn't start. Turns out, from your video, the cd has to be placed uside-down. i would never have thought of that, never seen it on any other player. Thanks!

    Thank you, a very useful video for me. I knew there was something missing but didn't know what it was, when you flipped the laser assembly over I noticed immediately that I had a spring missing which holds those two geared racks in place, very useful. Now I just need to find a spring.

    Thank you for the video, very useful. I'm trying to repair a Pioneer S-602 that I bought to try my luck at repairing. Also stable platter, the exact same symptoms, and indeed, no lens!

      This is rather frequent, as it seems.
      After that it often needs optics ajustment, I'm preparing a video about it (nothing that you won't find in service manual, though...)

    Correcto amigo, si el laser no lee, no hay rotación del disco, tuve una falla así con un AIWA y era el lector óptico, lo remplacé y listo empezó a funcionar correctamente.

    • @sirrosh69
      @sirrosh69  Год назад +1

      Hi, please check if all the voltages are ok.
      The second thing is to check the tray end switch, it may think the tray is still open.
      The third thing is to check the spindle motor wiring, the motor itself or its drivers rarely go bad from my experience.

    I have several Pioneer CD players. Some from Japan, models PD-T05 PD-t06 similar to model to PD-75 and PD-77.. They all have the same issue, the lens fall out of the laser block. I guess the glue they used to attach the lens looses it's adhesion over time..

    • @sirrosh69
      @sirrosh69  3 года назад

      Exactly, but in my case some extensive tuning is needed, because the outer tracks are being read unreliable sometimes. That's far out of scope of works for this device as it is not so valuable to waste time tuning laser pickup.

      Yeah, that's one of the procedures from the service manual. Judging by the oscillogram I saw, you pickup is rather weak... or needs further tuning, IMHO.
      Anyway, enjoy your music and your device!

    I had a Pioneer PD-S504 CD Player, and the same problem happened. A friend of mine repaired the player with gluing the lense, but a few time later, the lense fell again. I was disgusted as I did really appreciate this player (matched with a DENON PMA 360 that I still have) but today when I see the cost of Pioneer laser unit fot this model, it does hurt...

    • @sirrosh69
      @sirrosh69  Год назад

      It is not a problem to glue it again, just be carefull with the lens itself. As I mentioned in the comments, cyanacrylic glue will do the job and it has ~10yrs lifespan, so it's something else that will fail next time, not the glue :)

    • @sirrosh69
      @sirrosh69  Год назад

      The button may be a bit dirty or stuck (does the display say "TRACK?" on pressing PGM?).
      But that looks to be a secondary problem, because this player won't even go from STANDBY to ON if it would have any of the button shorted (IR remote aside, I'm speaking of the front panel buttons here).

      Hi, my guess that it's a mere coincidence. What kind of help do you expect here?
      If you feel confident - open it and try to diagnose, starting from the power source... which is to be the main suspect when something's not powering on.

    Hi. I wonder how the story ends.

    • @sirrosh69
      @sirrosh69  Год назад

      Me too)))
      It works really fine up until the ~70 minute of a disk, then it _may_ be a bit skippy. I'm preparing the last part where I'll do the optical pickup tuning. In the service manual they say you need the special test CD, but I discovered that any optical medium with amplitude modulation (CD-R, it is) and filled up to the end will do the job.

      To Val Mina : if you touch wrong wires, you could have burned the fuse and the unit will no longer power up. Check if you have 5V coming out of the power section. If not, then look for the fuse. It can be a chip type (looks like a small transistor, but has only 2 legs (ICP Nxx). Good lukc

    I was recently was recently given a Pd s501 rarely ever used. Stopped working on me and is making a squealing/ whining noise. Could this be related to a fallen off or loose lens? Have seen the same problem on other youtube videos but no answer. Would be a shame to toss it as it came with a matching tuner and amp. Any info much appreciated. Thanks people!
