Perillus was said to have created the Brazen Bull to give to Phalaris, a cruel ruler. But instead of getting a reward, Perillus himself was put inside the Brazen Bull. Later it is said that Phalaris was also placed in the Brazen Bull, because the people could no longer endure his excessive cruelty. What a turn of events.
The Iron Maiden isn't confirmed to have been used as a torture device, but it has been found in later times. Some believe it was used for tortue, while others believe it was made for other purposes. The true nature of it we will never know, and maybe that's what makes it extra scary.

Yes and no. Phalaris, who ordered this device, was so appalled by this that he put the inventor in it and started a fire. Although there are two accounts what happened afterwards. One says the inventor died in it and in another one it is said that Phalaris freed Perilaus but killed him afterwards by throwing him off a cliff. Although it makes one wonder why Perilaus would trust a tyrant who nearly killed him in his bull to go to a cliff....
