Tip: Make sure that the form on every shot you is exactly the same. That is key for becoming a consistent shooter. Your follow through often differed between shots.
The one thing I noticed about Rick Barry is the follow-through for the backspin, which makes your shot more like to go in if it hits the rim (makes your shot "luckier") -- It looks like you got more of that backspin and follow-through as you went along! Great video, thanks!
I would strongly recommend people go listen to the Gladwell podcast this is in reference to. Title of the episode is The Big Man Can't Shoot. It talks about more than just free throw shooting. Even has a bit about the NFL draft that is interesting. Good video!
Hal Greer shot 81% well 6% above league avg from the line on jump shooting . But I wouldnt advise that either. Too much motion. Routine, least moving parts rule, relaxation concentration and confidence . Try it one handed levers aligned ankle, knee, shoulder, elbow , wrist splitting rim with foot of shooting side and dont look at the ball , bend at the waist feel the seams , look at the rim front or back ( doesnt matter much) 2 and a half rotations of back spin. So if your long you get the roll back. Persons with over large hands may try shooting with three fingers ,pads on the ball , . Thumb index and middle. . Also do sprints before to get winded because fts are shot after cardio exertion . Composure is difficult after coming to rest. Finally move to the line directly from the back of key circle before alignment instead of sideways from ft line extended that gives you your first direct view of the goal not a sideways glance this helps your stereovision . There was a reason hank luisetti and jumping joe fulks pretty much ended the two hand set shot era . They shot a higher percentage one handed. But if you insist on comfort in 2 hands or have small hands try it bunny Levitt's way. Otherwise ...
Shoot the way that feels the most comfortable and you can repeat the best. I am 5'11", so not big, but while my shooting motion was good, at the line it never felt comfortable. I saw Rick Barry's free throws, emulated it, and still shoot that way today and definitely shoot free throws better underhand.
Interesting! Here's my two cents: In the long run overhand shooting is probably more beneficial because it translates better to the game overall. Sure it's nice to be able to make free throws with better accuracy. But how big part of the game is that really? Getting better at throwing overhand shots will most likely help you score more points over the course of an entire game. But i'm not even a basketball player tho
i think for playears do not worth changing . cause overhand is something they use on the game so training free throws and playing have overlap training they can be better at both. underhand is to easy too lose the ball on the game.

SuperFrikkz Zlatan Solid tip. Definitely something to work on! 👊

Good video!
18/50 is 36% not 38%
Baljot Toor Woops. My bad.
Hes clearly not an Asian
A friendly reminder that ball is life.
Always hear players say that they would do anything to help their team win except when it doesn't look cool.
I love, Love, LOVE shooting underhanded free throws.
My theory is that its better because of an improved aur curve trajectory... With the granny shot it enters the rim from the very top
Wow, this is actaully really cool. Keep up the great videos!
Jake Woods Thanks Jake!!
Great video! It's nice to see the gains over time and the consistent advantage of underhand shooting.
you make really good content 👌good job dude
Thanks Zach!!
Great Video man, really well set up and done ✅
Nice video, man! I can tell it took a lot of work!

maybe throwing underhand is considred humiliating just because kids dothat?
Centers should try underhand, but the smaller guys shoot shoot normally
idk I'm 5'9" and shoot like 10% better underhand, and an even bigger gap if I haven't touched a basketball in a while (which is often).
Rick Barry wasnt a center

Nice video I like it!
i watched this a long time ago and i am commenting 7 months later
cool video

But usually centers pf dont shoot with normal form so actually for big guys this could be better
So many bricks in that montage.
Show this to Ben Simmons lol
I feel like I have a secret weapon now
The hunk rebounding must work out
Obviously. Gainz like that don't just come for free.
Sakuragi Hanamichi also shoots underhanded
Haha I swear to God the building in the thumb nail is my school
B00STED2JZ Lol, it might be dude!
dont swear. Dont mention God 's name without need believe in the trinity
Steph and Rick aren't the highest free-throw percentage shooter. I believe Steve nash has the record
Nash shoots 90.43 all time, steph shoots the highest at 90.82. Third place is mark price with 90.39
You gotta get in rhythm and rise up in one motion
Rick barry 90%
Shouldn't extend your arms all the way or move your legs or body it's all in the shoulders and wrists
It's amazing how a person can be in the NBA and be so horrible at shooting free throws.
Many big guys can't shoot at all and just use their size. Shaq scored ONE 3-pointer in his whole NBA career, a buzzer beater that went in by luck.
A small subset does not make a scientific study perhaps you should study the routine and concentration of the 6 nba players above barry on the list.
thats my school
Sacred Heart High School??
Don't need to move your body or extend your arms
Sorry my pride won’t let me
5 percent from shooting like rick berry

The Ultimate Jumbo Shrimp word dude!
Wtf
No. Too many levers involved . I get the back spin argument but now you are involving two elbows in the motion .
I'm 100% at free throws
Nice bait
