I’ve had 3 search warrants executed against me. Never once have they knocked and given me an opportunity to see the warrant. LVMPD likes to do the whole no knock, blow the door off the hinges and break all the windows bullshit. The first time I watched them fill the warrant out at my kitchen table and actually write the serial numbers to guns they found on the front page, stating that they were looking for said guns when there was no way they could have known the serial numbers beforehand. The guns were in locations that were beyond the scope of the search as they were supposedly looking for a stolen vehicle and the guns were in a safe in my bedroom closet.
The police are more corrupt than the criminals they’re supposed to protect the public from.

The Sheriff's went to a friend's house looking for someone who was wanted. They asked him to step outside. They arrested him for drunk in public. They basically told him to tell them where the wanted guy was, and they would let him go. He didn't know, so they arrested him. Said they were also charging him with obstruction. They bashed his head into the roof of the car and put the handcuffs on so right that his wrists were bruised for several days. They also searched his house without consent. Of course, all the charges were dropped. Point is, he could've avoided all of this by not opening the door.

They broke a guy's back once detaining him so they could arrest his adult son. He got an attorney to take the case. Told him only if they all stayed out of trouble. SIU scoped his son's apartment for a week. Finally, someone in probation went inside. SIU went in with guns out. Heard they were roughly prodding people with the barrels of long guns. They searched the common areas and found a little baggy of meth. The attorney dropped them as clients

I was 12 years old and my
Brother accidentally died. The police stormed our property and home as I was the oldest at home. No warrant, just swarmed everywhere, even driving over our garden.
They stood in my home and told me to make dinner for my siblings. I began to make franks and beans and they chastised me for not making healthier food (try getting children under 6 to eat “healthy” food).
At this time, I didn’t know my brother was dead so it was, truly, a nightmare.
They tried to accuse my parents of abuse when, in reality, we were the Mormon version of the Cleavers. My mother was canning in the kitchen and my father, who worked 2 jobs, was taking a nap. My brother was simply playing and hurt himself. It broke my parents.

IMHO If she'd had a good lawyer it would have all boiled down too was it a required double shift, or voluntary one. If it's required then she had no choice, and the extreme fatigue leading to her going to the wrong door was not due to any negligence on her part. Of course this means that the agency working people on doubles to the point they are not safe, has all the legal liability.
If she voluntarily worked the double shift, then there is a very strong argument to be made she chose to put herself in a situation where fatigue could cloud her judgment, i.e. negligence. I was very underwhelmed with her case and it's handling by all concerned. My heart goes out to the family of the young man she shot.

An intercom, rare (without a Ring Camera), is a good thing for homes and apartments that have one. You can talk to them, keeping your door shut, via the intercom. I would ask them the purpose of their presence, and if they have a warrant. Confirming no warrant, and being informed of an allegation made against me, I would inform them I'm not stepping out or opening the door, and I am invoking 5A, won't be answering their questions. Then, I'll shut off the intercom, and go back to watching TV.

Many other countries are way worse like Mexico and the Middle East. They are all under cartels and they harass and beat the public by not allowing them to have any rights. This is completely different in the US. I agree on the corruption being in law enforcement. But you and so many other people think that law enforcement is the only one that is corrupt. The military is also corrupt too and yet here you are being an ignorant idiot acting like the military is the answer to protecting and upholding laws. Law enforcement is more important than you think. You can argue all you want to but this is honestly ridiculous that you think it's a better world to have a federal agency (aka the US military) enforce laws instead of law enforcement. It's sad that now we need to keep this in mind: "Don't trust the Police."
My niece (11) & nephew (almost 14) had the police come to their door while they were alone last week. It was about a delivery truck having hit a vehicle at the curb & taking off next door. They called me as they answered the door even though it could have been related to their Egg Donor or the Social Worker visits we've been getting over the Summer. (Meaning that they knew the risk of opening the door.)
The officer spoke to me as she talked to them. She thanked them so much for being willing to give witness statements & praised them for calling an adult while doing so.
From my understanding, the police didn't have any/many other witnesses and so were very grateful to our kids for answering the door.
I am from a small town & we used to be able to tell kids that the one person you could always trust was a Law Enforcement Officer. It's so sad that our kids, & we, now need to distrust them & seek for their ulterior motives: "The Police are NOT your Friends." And "They are NOT there to save you."
One other thing, there are great officers out there, but we have to lower our expectations & responses to the common denominator.

Four officers knocked on my door to ask to see video footage from my doorbell camera. They explained it concerned something that had happened down the street. I told them that my doorbell camera is motion activated, and only captures movement up to 15 feet away. The camera also could not see beyond the porch to a house down the street since a wall blocks the view. I checked on my phone for a video for the time they asked about, and there was no video. The cops were not happy about this, but they didn’t seize my phone or pry the doorbell camera off the wall, or come back later with a warrant. However, in retrospect, it occurred to me that I should not have cooperated as they could have made any claim they liked such as that I erased footage in front of them, or that I was uncooperative. We live in a world in which the police will lie to you, and then lie about what you said.

      1) I wouldn't have responded. If the cops don't have a warrant for someone's arrest or to search the premises, you're not required to answer them
      2) If they persisted in knocking and it bothered you, use the mic on the doorbell camera (Ring?) to converse with the DOOR SHUT. Ask them what they wanted, and if 1) above doesn't apply...tell them to GO AWAY.
      3) I wouldn't have felt the need to "splain" anything about my doorbell cam. It's none of their Gott-damned business until they get a COURT ORDER to access it.

I appreciate this so much. I was a widow of only 4 days. I’m 65. My husband died of a heart attack in the kitchen. He’d just been to his dr. The police came and wrapped up the unattended death investigation within 45 minutes. No problem. 4 days later I have 4 cops with a warrant at my door. My husband’s son ( my stepson) called the dr who signed the death certificate and fed him bullshit lies claiming “He feared for his life, he’d been sleeping at his son’s homes, etc…total nonsense, no proof, nothing verified, all lies. The doctor was so frightened he forget none of that was possible cuz my husband had been recovering from surgery and couldn’t even get to the bathroom let alone drive 30-45 miles at night then back home in the morning, then he got a bad case of Covid and was home two more months, as I waited on him hand and foot. So the dr contacts the police to rescind his signature. The suspicious death:homicide complaint was a priceless summation of what a Narcissist is capable of. It was literally lie after lie after more lies. After four days he suddenly recovered from the amnesia he and his brothers had about their make believe sleepovers by their dad and the lies that spanned 34 years of interaction. It was crazy and he is very disturbed. He tried to take over the funeral services and got weird. I just stood my ground in honoring my husband as he would have wanted and deserved. He filed that false report then led the entire family to have their own pagan celebration at a campground. Six sons, not one would be a pallbearer. I couldn’t read those reports till after the autopsy declared the cause of death was the same the dr had indicated. Sick and twisted and I told the police exactly why his sons would have done that which they noted in their report but they did not even try to verify anything that was claimed, they just believed him, then a judge signed the warrant believing the cops had proceeded with due diligence when they hadn’t. They look like idiots bcuz they are. They don’t want to file charges against the stepson for filing a false police report but I am forcing the issue. It was payback for not giving the narcissist his own way. It has been hard enough being without my best friend but I couldn’t grieve for him without the continued shit from his sons. That has ceased for me, they are going to learn lessons they should have already learned and known. 45 year old men acting like two year olds!! Unbelievable, stupid cops hoping for fame in a small town.

I like the scene in “Mr.In-Between” When the cops came to his door after someone made accusations against him. They asked, “are you Ray?” He said, “I don’t answer questions.” They asked if they could come in. He said, “ I don’t answer questions”. They asked if he knew his accuser? “ I don’t answer questions”. Eventually they just walked away. ( it was Australia, but the cops had no recourse short of an arrest warrant.)
The simple answer is this: Answer the door. Stand in your threshold and state unequivocally, “I do not consent to your entering my home in any manner.” Then ask if they have a camera and is it recording. If not, take the 5th. If it is on, repeat that you do not consent to their entry nor any other manner of search. That way, if they pull a fast one, your attorney can subpoena the recording, and if its not to be found get you off on the basis that you were told it was recording and they deleted the recording to conceal their illegal entry.
Then ask them, “what is this concerning?” “ Do you have a Warrant? “ You can ask the cops as many questions as you like without waving your 5th amendment rights. If you genuinely have done nothing illegal or questionable, you have no idea why the cops are at your door. They may well be trying to return your stolen bicycle. Or inform you of an accident your child or spouse was involved in. Don’t live in paranoia… but then again, don’t ever forget that cops and prosecutors get raises and promotions based upon collars and convictions. They have an incentive to find a culprit, and it really doesn’t matter to many of them if it’s the right one.

If they answer no, and say "We would just like to talk to you." The answer is "I'm sorry but no. I am taking my 5th Amendment right to remain silent." Walk away and go back to what I was doing. Most of the time, since I live alone, is on the computer playing games. I have noise deadening headphones, so they can knock and ring the bell all they want, I won't be answering it. They cannot get onto the front porch because the screen door has a automatic deadbolt and requires a key from the outside, as well as an extra security feature. If you have a front and rear door with a screen door attached to the doorframe, see if you can have the screen door replaced with one of those heavy security screen doors that comes equipped with a deadbolt lock. If the security screen door does come with a deadbolt lock, then make sure that the screen door is locked at all times when everyone is home. Talking with the police won't be an issue then.
Another thing to consider is to fence in your property as well as have heavy duty gates installed at the driveways. Have an electric fence installed as well. If you block access to your yard from the street, cops cannot come onto your property without some good reasons or a warrant. If posted enough, cops won't climb over an electric fence or gate.

These dedicated attorneys visit prisons and identify cases of possible mis-convictions of innocent people. Old ladies sitting on juries will normally believe the nice young police officer who is good and kind and would never tell a lie. They forget that the police are in cahoots and work with the prosecutor to convict the defendant.
When the Innocence Project proves that there was a failure of justice, the judge and the police will NEVER admit that they screwed up, forcing the Innocence Project to apply for a pardon. With a pardon, the subject is freed, however will forever have a conviction on their record and will never be compensated for the miscarriage of justice.

Locked exterior storm-door in-front of the residence's exterior door will prevent a lot of the "breach" options and also lesson the chance of a home invasion. By locked, I mean get an exterior storm door that has at least a 1" deadbolt - not that expensive considering the alternatives and most big-box hardware stores carry "pre-hung" versions that you can basically just mount to the existing door-frame in 30 to 60min from unbox to final screw in the last hole.
    - Better yet, have an enclosed porch with its own set of exterior doors, both locked, and the door to the main residence is locked when you're not using the porch.

Don't let a cop trick you into thinking that you only have a right to remain silent after they, the cops, tell you you have the right to remain silent. When cops tell an arrested suspect they have a right to remain silent they are merely *REMINDING* the person that they *STILL* have their Fifth Amendment right to remain silent. Verbally invoke that right so as to deny a cop the ability to claim ignorance and so keep their qualified immunity. Verbally invoking the Fifth also denies cops the ability to ignore it and use your silence as a sign of guilt, something judges allow if the right wasn't verbally invoked. 😉

When I was a cop I always tried to put my foot in the door threshold when I made contact unless it was going to be a ‘pleasant contact’.
Also, if I asked to stand inside myself or another officer would peer in to other rooms from the living room for officer safety. Do not allow them inside the house. As a cop we could articulate anything as Officer Safety, a dog in the house making noise, a TV on in another room.
Now fast forward, I am retired and have a problem with the pitbull next door charging onto my property, jumping the fence at the sidewalk and charging people. After my 2nd City Council meeting the Chief sent an officer to my home because I embarrassed the department. When the officer knocked on the door, the officer snapped at me when I answered the door because I was holding my cell phone as I had been texting someone. The cop snapped, you’re not videotaping me are you? I responded, do you see my ring doorbell and all the cameras in the window I use to capture the pit in my yard. The officer told me he was a Constitutional expert. 24+ videos of the pit on my property, almost making inside my house, and zero citations for a loose leash violation because it MUST be witnessed by an officer. He told me someone has to be bitten before anything can be done. The police treat me worse than the pitbull owner, because I embarrass them at City Council. I go there to leave a paper trail in case anyone is bitten, to prove their inaction.
An aside- I had taken a third letter to the police department with videos on a USB showing the dog charge and bite another dog after jumping the fence, and also the mailman. The Watch Commander refused my letter and said it was a Neighbor Dispute and to seek a restrain order. I guess being upset the dog has bitten dogs, charged people, tried to attack my pets on my property makes me a mural combatant 🙄

I'm totally law abiding, once a State Police Officer knocked on my door. They asked who I was. I had nothing to hide so I cooperated. Then is got weird. Long story short they were looking for someone who lived in my apartment 5 years earlier. They wanted to search and verify they weren't there. I didn't like the vibe so I told them no (plus my place was a mess lol). I stated no again, told them wait outside and see if anyone leaves or come back with a search warrant. I turned around and started walking inside and they followed me to the door. I quickly closed the storm door and said I'm not talking to you anymore. They said I was acting guilty. So I reiterated what I said before. The next week I was pulled over 3 times. True story then I got a lawyer. He made a call and everything stopped but it cost me $450. This was in 2000. The lawyer informed the reason why they were looking there. I was the 3rd tennant prior to the person they were looking for who lived prior. I used to be one of these "blue lives types" way before it was a thing. Now I know police lie all the time! Best advice from the lawer was if the police come knocking it's never for a good reason. In the state of Washington, there is State v. Thompson, (2004) 151 Wn. 2d. 793, 92 P. 3d. 228. In the case of a civil warrant, such as for child support contempt proceedings or for failure to appear for supplemental proceedings, the police are not authorized to break into your house. They are not allowed to go through a locked door to execute such warrant. But if they catch up to you while driving your car or walking around outside, they haul you off to the county jail and then you and any lawyers you can afford are free to deal with it in court.
So keep the door shut and locked, and stay away from windows and keep your mouth shut.
