    My husband and I absolutely love watching all your videos!!! They have been so helpful to us. My husband's family is in barboursville. We made a quick trip there last year, but did not know the lay of the land. We didn't know of any senic places to visit. So we are planning another, much longer trip for sometime in the next couple months. We are gonna make sure we watch all your videos and take notes and directions as well!! We are so glad you and your wife do what you do!!!! If you guys think of anything else that you would recommend, just let us know.
    Thank you,
    Ang & James

    My parents had a cabin on the edge of the camp up near the top of the mountain on the right! One of my favorite places anywhere! My grandpa had the cabin and a barn on the cabin trail. And yes, there's a good chance of running into a bear! Grandpa also had a house under the lake made by the dam. My heart actually hurts seeing this.

    I'd like to see the old trees there. I've seen a few old looking trees in Daniel Boone National Forest that looked to be human modified trees. Modified by the Natives. Some people call them "trail trees" or "marker trees", or simply Indian trees. Might go explore there and look for some. It is a little east from from where I like to go but it might be worth the drive. Love to see more of the forest back in there if you have any footage.

      I've seen trees like I think your talking about. Were they growing almost horizontal to the ground? Old timer told me they were Indian marker trees.

    • @plutosforest
      @plutosforest 4 года назад +1

      @@rkow8508 yes the ones I've seen (Kentucky) were White Oaks, bent 90 degrees a couple feet off the ground. However, there are a lot of variations as apparently tribes had their own conventions. I just made a video on what I think is one, although the tree is young (100 to 125 years old max). The one I filmed probably looked like football goal post in the past, but one fork of the trunk might've broke off. Who knows. Unfortunately there is not great scientific study of these, and it is a dying piece of history.

      @@plutosforest I am 59 years old and have spent a lot of time in the woods.Grew up in new England every time I found one of these they were white oak always near brooks on the high side some times near quartz.I found some arrow heads but mostly defects I think they made them at the source.Never made the connection between all of this until the old guy told me what the trees were.The branches only grew on the top not on the.sides or bottom.

    Thank you for these videos. I have really enjoyed them. I have distant maternal relatives in Harlan and Letcher County. Would you be interested in filming cemeteries in Cumberland? I have family in the Huff Cemetery and I would like to have photographs of two family members headstone. Maybe for a small donation for your service. Either way I again want to thank you for the videos you are sharing, helping me and others to know some of the history of eastern Kentucky.

    Omg! Isn't that some kind of pretty! I started laughing my ass off when you said widow maker...lol. My mother was born in Harlan Co. and was there until she was around 8. She would always call dead rotten trees widow makers. Well I grew up hearing that so whenever I would be doing a walk about in the woods and say look at there widow maker. Lol. People would look at me like I was crazy. They would say what in sam hell is a widow maker. Lol...I would have to explain that those rotten trees or limbs would fall on the men and kill them and there wives would become widows. It is so sad how people just don't understand terms like that anymore. Shoot I have run into people way older than me that don't know what a dog trot is or a summer kitchen or a sleeping porch. Lol. Me personally if I ever stayed there at that cabin I would rather use the outhouse. Lol. Lord knows I have used my fair share. Ty you for sharing this. If I ever get to come that way on my family research journey that looks like a wonderful place to stay. I pray that every one is doing well after all that flooding. That was sad to see. God bless y'all. Would love to see more of the park. It was beautiful
