  • New York legend Kool G Rap opened up to VladTV about his early days growing up in Corona, Queens, and seeing the neighborhood go from mainly black-owned businesses to drugs taking over. He explained that the crack-era ruined families and turned decent mothers into drug addicts and criminals.
    Speaking about his own experiences, Kool G Rap explained how he started selling crack at seventeen and how he saw a lot of his friends die in the streets. To hear more of what he had to say on the situation, including the moment, he knew he needed to get out, hit the above clip.

    People used to compare Nas to Rakim, but listen to Main Source - Live at the BBQ and tell me that doesn't sound like Kool G Rap. A lot of early Nas sounded more like G Rap than Rakim to me. Even some tracks on Illmatic. I guess because of Nas' delivery and metaphors people thought of Rakim, but the flow and wordplay were G Rap influenced all the way. No disrespect to the GOAT Nas

    G Rap's style outlasted his peers and never became dated. Men at Work(recorded between 86-88) and Talk Like Sex(90). After Melle Mel, Caz and Moe Dee, no one can say they better.

      I don't doubt Nas was influenced by G Rap, but there was no big talk about Nas sounding like anyone other than himself when he emerged. He was basically a wonder child. New York Hip-Hop was in a bit of an odd space when he appeared with Main Source in '91. G Rap was a giant at that time, but hard to market; and dudes like Rakim and Big Daddy Kane were cooling off, with the likes of Tribe, Chubb Rock, and a fading LL and PE basically holding New York down. Wu-Tang completely put the game on smash in '93, and Nas, whose mystique was steady bubbling, finally dropped Illmatic in '94. If there was no G Rap, I believe you still would have had Nas. When I first heard Nas, I thought that his voice sounded like a jazz instrument, perhaps because of his father's influence. Nas was/is super smooth. G Rap is a lyrical giant, but he can beat-up records from time-to-time with a hard cadence.

    • @illuzeweb
      @illuzeweb 7 лет назад +4

      I think he were because of the fact they were both from Queens and Large Pro actually had Nas rap for G. really nobody was flowing like the big 3 Rakim, Kool G, and Kane
