    Have you ever wondered how to go camping on your period? Or how to use your menstrual cup while camping? Or then again, what the tips and tricks for backpacking or canoeing on your period were? Fear no more, this video will explain my zero waste period in the wild!
    A more detailed video will follow with information regarding:
    - Camping hygiene
    - Where I emptied out my menstrual cup
    - How to deal with period cramps on big canoeing days
    - How to leave no trace - pack it in pack it out
    We are Karam and Elena.
    This is the third video in our Algonquin series, recounting our 3-week canoe camping trip across Algonquin Park, Canada in the fall of 2019. This was our first portage trip, and as you will soon find out, neither one of us really knew what we were doing. Our route started and ended at Opeongo, stretching up to Brent then back down. This video will take us from Burntroot to Brent, on Cedar Lake.

    Very interesting about the diva cup. Certainly a game-changer, for camping especially. Great to see it lasts so long.

    • @Karamintheworld
      @Karamintheworld  3 года назад +1

      Yes! They're supposed to last for 10years, although I've only had mine for 5years so far (I'll let you know in another 5!). But overall I cannot recommend it enough.

    You are entering into what the backcountry community calls "type B fun." where it hurts, but the struggle makes it worth it. I'm sure you felt that when you did the Hogan lake to Big Crow Portage...

    • @Karamintheworld
      @Karamintheworld  3 года назад +1

      Type B fun is kinda what we were looking for in this adventure, but didn't know it was called type B fun haha. That portage was so long!! But it was very doable since we really took our time leap-frogging :)

    That was such a joy to watch! And I have always admired people who menstruate choosing to go on long camping trips. I personally have very bad cramps and a heavy period, unfortunately, I feel like it is definitely the main reason why I really hesitate going camping for long days. But seeing others doing it does make me feel more optimistic about it! :)

    • @Karamintheworld
      @Karamintheworld  3 года назад +2

      I fully recognize I'm extremely lucky to not get very bad cramps. I sometimes have one very bad day but the rest of the time I'm fine, and probably would be more reluctant to do longer trips like this if I had crippling pain everytime. If ever you do feel up to it though, I find CBD oil has really helped with my cramps :) Thanks for watching!

    This was a very, very good video. It's interesting your point about just wanting to get in a car etc. That's the problem with "civilized" resupply stops, it takes you out of the moment and tempts you to abandon. However when you go out again it's usual really good! (Waiting for your next video to see if that's what happened for you too)

    • @Karamintheworld
      @Karamintheworld  3 года назад +1

      this is exactly what happened to us! As soon as we were inside we remembered what warmth and shelters feels like, which made it so much harder to go back out into the cold rainy weather. It's crazy how quickly you forget what basic "civilized" comforts feel like but as soon as you get a taste again it makes everything harder. Thanks for watching and supporting as always :)

    Wasn't clear to me if the zero day was part of the plan, or the rain drove you to it - but I've done so many trips where I did NOT listen to my own body and take that break, and paid for it, hard. Glad you got the break. I'm enjoying watching the crazy!

    • @Karamintheworld
      @Karamintheworld  3 года назад

      Always listen to your body! That's our big takeaway. Especially given that we had plenty of time, the only reason to push on through and ignore our fatigue was ego, which has no place on the trail! Super stoked you're watching along, and can't wait for you to see the next episode :)

    OMG you said Catfish lake. I am pretty sure I have been there. Very sure, but it was a long time ago. Rain can come suddenly without any indication in Algonquin. The last time I was at Rock lake in Algonquin Park was circa 1995 with my son who was seven at the time. Thank you so much for posting. Bienvenue.

      Raw meat has a lot of bacteria. You don't think twice about reusing pots and pans used to cook meat. A menstrual cup to me is less worrisome than raw meat. And BOILING WATER KILLS BACTERIA
