I agree. I liked season 1. It was so unexpected. I started watching this show on Netflix one night thinking it would bore me to sleep. It is now one of my favorite shows.

I was really worried about seeing Emma being turned a villain by becoming the Dark One because this was plain crazy because this central character of the whole show that some of us loved. And I found that notion quite unnerving even back 4B. Then with season 5 showing all that I’ve been what the others are going to do fight to save Emma or accept the person she used to is gone and accept that’s she’s a threat that need to stopped.
This was one of my all time favorite TV shows! It's sad that it didn't continue longer. Not sure why there was that drastic change in the last season, when most of the main characters left the show. I've heard rumors about pay disputes, but who really knows what happened, for sure!
