Hi Nick, I found this video and your channel after RUclips suggested that I listen to your second crochet video.
First of all, I’m so impressed with your crocheting skills and beautiful work. So ambitious! You’ve inspired me to start my own temperature blanket doing a granny square a month. And I’ll be trying out the Re-spun yarn that was featured in a few of your other projects, what gorgeous yarn and colors!
Secondly, I’m commenting on this specific video because it is the best description of what an ICU nurse does that I’ve ever heard. I’ve worked in healthcare as a registered respiratory therapist since 1990. Probably, longer than you’ve been alive, right? I’ve worked at Heart centers, Trauma centers and community hospitals. The benefits of working as an RT is that you get to go throughout the hospital and serve in all areas. We really appreciate our RNs and their expertise and assessments skills especially in emergent and critical situations!
Thank you for approaching your profession and your patients with such compassion and kindness. That spark attracted you to Amber and is what you carry with you now. Everything that you’ve shared has been done so beautifully and is so heartfelt.
Two years ago, after working so hard through COVID, boy that certainly wasn’t on my radar, I was able to retire. 🎉 and now, I spend my days crocheting and loving every minute of it. Thank you for sharing your life and example with the World on RUclips. I know that I have loved and have benefited from hearing about your experiences, hopes and dreams. Please keep it up, I’ll be watching ❤

Thank you for the kind words! After these years of Covid I wish I could crochet as my full-time gig, but I still have to work for a few more years 😭

This is such an informative video. I wanted to hear a second ICU nurse's opinion on his job. I loved your statement about 'I'm an ICU nurse'. You are completely right. I could never be a medical surgical nurse managing tons of different diagnoses and patho/phys. ICU nurses just think differently than a med surg nurse. It's not better or superior, just different. Respect to all nurses! I cannot stand ICU nurses who assume they are superior than other nurses.. Ugh.

I'm a new grad RN. Just passed my nclex June 18th. I interviewed for the new grad position to the cardiac ICU and was fortunate to get the job. I start end of July with orientation. So excited. Thank you for this video!

you seem like an amazing nurse. I love the fact that you have so much heart for your career. I see so many nurses get exhausted and lose passion for the patients. I've been in the hospital so many times and I've had both good and bad nurses. I'm in college station, not far from Austin. if I had to be in icu, I would definitely love to have a nurse like you or you take care of me. I currently have a brain tumor, esophagus disease, crohns disease, peripheral neuropathy, kidney disease, epilepsy, protein c deficiency, and possibly PAD. It touches my heart so much to see your passion. What hospital do you work for? It also would be cool to have you cause your adorable. In all seriousness I definitely appreciate nursed like you.

New grad here! We were unable to do any clinicals in the ICU and that is the unit I most wanted to see!!! I think I want to be an ICU nurse but it’s hard to know since I have never shadowed on that unit. So I don’t know what it is REALLY like. Thank you for the video!!

WOW, I am a newly hired ICU nurse overseas. I was originally I am from palliative care. I got the job because there were short staff so I just said yes without knowing what will I get myself into. I am really having a tough time that I wanted to quit because of the pressure etc. I really appreciated your video and your viewers comments.

Very informative Nick. Never myself been a patient in an ICU even though I've had five or six surgeries. Closest thing was an Intensive Cardiac unit after surgery to do a cardiac window. All the nurses were super nice and, more importantly, super competent, or so it seemed to me. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Nick, thank you for such an informative video. I'm very glad that I found your channel. I too am looking into a career change and I'm from the Dallas area so this was very insightful. I've been debating between music education or nursing but I've only started on prereqs towards nursing so far (doing A&P1 right now). Hope that I'm making the right career choice. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing more of your videos!

Hello, Nick! Future nurse here (graduating in December), and former Austin-area resident (Round Rock). I've only had a 2-day rotation in our local ICU, but I think I might like to work there in the future, after getting some floor-nursing experience under my belt. I did want to give a shoutout for the very cool ink on your arm - I assume these are passport stamps that you've commemorated? Is your facility ink-friendly, or did you take into account your sleeve length on your scrubs to make sure they would stay covered?

Im looking to go to the ICU right out of school and have heard mixed feelings on it. Some have suggested to go to MedSurg first. What are your feelings on that? And how stressful was the training?

I am currently a CNA. I had no idea that they have nursing assistant in the ICU. What do they do?

    • @davidleemckenzie
      @davidleemckenzie 8 лет назад

Not every ICU does. My hospital does not staff any CNAs in the ICU; all of the duties you do as a CNA are done by the RN. So, it's really hospital-specific.

Was it difficult starting out on an ICU after nursing school? I want to do ICU nursing and I graduate in 4 months, but I always hear the whole you need Med-Surg or SAC experience. Lol

I did the OR. Joined the open heart team for 1.5 years. I gotta say OR nursing did not satisfy my need to provide care such as dealing with medications and a different critical thinking. Loving my ICU job!
