  • The Honda s2000 has a misfire problem that we go over in this video. The car has a slight misfire at idle that is noticed by a sputter in exhaust sound and a slight shake of the engine in the bay. We try a few small tests on the car such as replacing the map sensor and replacing the fuel injectors with some low mileage units to see if this clears the Honda's VTEC engine of its cough!

    Love it! I’ve had serious misfire with a high mileage engine. Glad you’re trying to save this one!

    I’d go first to sparkplugs … probably fouled up as this engine has been started and shut off many many times since it was last on the road.
    Also those cam cover breather pipes that you said weren’t very important …. are actually very important. Any airleak on those pipes will make the engine run rough as you are introducing unmetered air into the inlet manifold.
    Spray an aerosol of brake cleaner fluid onto all the breather pipe joins.. Any leak will cause the rpm to increase while you are spraying.

    I had a 99 civic with an r spec from Japan it ran a little rough but it always ran and that’s what mattered Also that’s why I came back to the mopar hemis are way easier to diagnose

      These engines are pretty simple. Going to double check and adjust the valves tonight 👍

    If it keeps up the misfire, I'd definitely pull the plugs and compare. A lot can be discovered reading plugs sometimes.

    • @BoostedMotorsports
      @BoostedMotorsports  5 лет назад +1

      Ya I agree. I’m going to adjust the valves also since I don’t know the history plus they are a little noisy at idle which can cause misfire. We’ll see where we end up next 👍

    Did you ever discover what was missing? Mine did the same when I tapped the gas it would bog a little Fuel injector cleaner helped a bit.

    Any updates? I have the same symptoms except mine is throwing a p0171 lean code. I did a valve adjustment, injectors, fuel pump, map, spark plugs, FPR, checked for vacuum leaks. I still haven’t fixed the issue and ran out of ideas. My compression was good too. Any advice?

      @BoostedMotorsports  5 лет назад +3

      If you did all that the only thing I didn't see in your list is coils. Its usually either valve adjustment, injectors or coils. Mine runs perfect after the valve adjustment though!

    • @mdelrio1991
      @mdelrio1991 5 лет назад

      BoostedMotorsports I’m gonna have to try new coils then. Do you think bad coils can cause an intermittent lean code tho?

    I would recommend a leak down test s2000’s tend to burn exhaust valves

    When I replace parts for idling I usually also reset the ECU. So it can relearn to idle. Doesnt take too long and over time should improve. I know you got the issue solved now js

    I have a gen 4 Dodge Viper. If I put gen 5 cylinder heads on my gen 4 2008 would I get a HP increase? I found some on eBay for 2,400 hundred. Would you consider doing that are is it not worth the cost for the gain.

    Does it have hydraulic valve lifters? One could be worn and leaking down to fast

    • @BoostedMotorsports
      @BoostedMotorsports  5 лет назад

      No lifters it’s a DOHC with rollers. Probably do a valve adjustment tonight on it 🤟

    It's the map sensor reading the air pressure wrong and dumping fuel to compensate and stalls oit

    I'm having this sane exact problem. Just changed the spark plugs, didn't fix the issue. It's throwing a P1399 code also which is a random misfire. Next up, changing my injectors.

      I have this same code...have had it for a year. Replaced, injectors 3 times, spark plugs twice, coil packs twice, valve adjustment, compression test which was fine, new fuel pump, map sensor, vtec solenoid, new pcv valve...I'm probably missing something. I just found brand new injectors bc they started making parts for these cars again. Putting them in today & hoping it fixes the issue.

    120 grit? Minimum 320 grit before highbuild primer, 120 scratches will be visible after paint.

    Hola tengo este mismo problema con mi s2000 idéntico el cambio en el cilindro #2 es menor a los demás cambie bujías coil hice servicio a las inyectores revise conectores y no se que más hacer me marca los códigos error en cilindro 1-2 y aleatorio además la marcha mínimo es inestable y notablemente en el escape se escucha un leve fallo

    Mine randomly bogs and stalls, it doesn't happen very often but it bothers me when it does. I did spark plugs, coils, injectors, valve adjustment, and tct. I even changed the gas cap, lol. I'm boosted and using a AEM so it can't even read codes. I'm thinking it's a sensor issue now.
