Hi Bob, I just wanted to give you an update on the Pinnacles Hammock. I just spent a week using it on a camping trip. I have to tell you it is one of the best hammocks I've ever slept in. I have a few more expensive hammocks but this one is my new go too. I want to Thank You again for the review on this product. This hammock rocks!
I just had to see if the winter cover would fit my HG hammock so I ordered one yesterday. Well, I just got it and low and behold : it fits perfectly!!!! The toggles line up exactly with the D-rings and the length is exact as well. I've always wanted a cover for this hammock since my XLC and Chameleon both have them and for only $25 I found a perfect match! Thanks for the review Bob, had you not made it I would have never known about the cover!!!
Absolutely. I was definitely surprised it fit so well. Using the pull outs in the hammock is a big help to keep it opened up and off your head but it's not mandatory. Maybe HG will see it and design a cover like it now. If they made one with their materials and craftsmanship, it could well for $50 easy. This one is nice though, perfect for a budget cover for sure.
Thanks. Sorry for the delayed response but for some reason I was never alerted to you post. One of the guys in the forum made the shirt and I just had to have one.
@@nicknickerson4674 Yes the organizer was a waste. Already had mine fixed but am using the detachable organizer that came with the Skyloft hammock. But the rest of this thing is something that might be the perfect budget purchase and last for some time. Glad you are liking it.
We do have noseeums here in North Carolina. They also have them in France because that's where I had my worse experience with them. After having brought down one of my giant show kites I had been flying, while folding up the 10' wide by 100' long tail with my cousin, we noticed that the yellow portions of the tail were now orange in color. The reason being the noseeums were so thick on the fabric that it changed the color from yellow to orange. Remember, we're talking about a 10' x 100' piece of nylon fabric here. The ground was damp since it had just rained, so we were picking up the edges of the tail and waving them in the air in an attempt to dry it of before it rained again. Long story short, we in fact were throwing those noseeums onto us, and we ended up being covered up by them. Little did we know that that was not good. The next day both of us were covered in itchy welts from head to toe. The best way I can describe it is to liken it to having a poison ivy rash from head to toe, except even worse. I now have a better appreciation of how Lazarus in the Bible must have felt. Needless to say, my flight back to the U.S. the following day was miserable. I also had to swallow a lot of pride since I couldn't wear anything other than pajamas and very lose fitting house slippers. All this to point out how important keeping those pesky critters on the right side of the bug net. The mesh in the hammock here looks to be too course to keep noseeums out. The mesh on the Etrol bug nets however is of a tight enough weave to keep them out. I was considering adding this hammock to my collection since it seems to be well constructed, but I just don't have confidence in the bug net. Since you have purchased one of these, you might consider making a recommendation to them to include noseeum netting rather than simple bug, or mosquito netting. There really is a difference. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed your video.
Wow!! I have never had any contact with those critters. Thanks for letting me know. I was sort of leery about the netting on this hammock. It was not as tightly weaved as my Etrol is. Hence my comments on it. The designers were here in San Diego but now are in Florida. I wonder if they have them there and might just change the netting? If Etrol can afford to offer it on their hammock I can see no reason that Ridge Outdoor Gear can't do the same. If I have any more contact with them I will pass this along. Remember, this is a hammock that I paid for like any other customer so do not have an inside track to them. Remember that Amazon lets you purchase, examine and return if you do not want it. They never give me trouble with returns and they make it easy and costs nothing for me to do. 100' X 10' Kite? Strap on a harness and let it take you for a ride. LOL... That must be some kite!!! Anyway, again, thanks for the input. I really appreciate some input on this subject.
@@bobamos3628 I really appreciate your response to my comment. I do understand you don't have an inside scoop with the manufacturer of this product, but I don't even own one, so I definitely wouldn't be able to comment on my experience with it. It looks like a fine product, but the bug netting is my biggest concern with it.
@@thriftysurvivor6117 Most of the hammocks that review I have that inside track because they supplied the product for review and actually want my input. But with the few I purchase it is difficult as I am just a customer. But, I am going to try and send some sort of request on the netting. @@bobamos3628 Understood. I know input from actual customers should be important to product designers. It's the best way for them to get a true idea of what their customers want. Hey Bob I hung the Ridge yesterday and it was great. Love it. I added some whoopee slings and a amsteal ridgeline. That's about all it needs. Can't wait to take it on a overnighter. Thanks !
Told you it was one great hammock with a minimum of upgrades. And very inexpensive upgrades at that. So happy that I was able to steer you in the right direction. You would have liked the Skyloft too but this is so much nicer.
Yes, I'm very pleased with this hammock. It's a great value but that does not take away from the quality. Just a few upgrades is all it needed. I will get a lot of use out of it . I also got the ENO Skyloft. Not very impressed with it. It's comfortable but it is also short. Only about 7 foot. It's good for a nap in the back yard but that's about all. Glad I got it as a gift and didn't spend my cash for it. The Ridge is a far better hammock at half the cost. So Thank You my Friend. I appreciate you very much! Keep those video's coming. The ridge line measures 9’ long but the hammock is advertised at 11’ long. What is the standard way to measure a hammock? Great reviews by the way. Super informative
Hi and thanks for the comment. The measurement of a hammock's length is, generally, determined by the manufacturer. Some measure the length by the finished hammock end to end, without the ridgeline. Others measure it by the cut, but not sewn, blank of materiel while some sort of cheat and measure the total length including the continuous loops. A good starting point for the ridgeline length is 83% of the hammock's actual finished length. That is only the starting point. Making the ridgeline longer or shorter is needed to determine the user's preference for comfort.
@@GatewoodBrown This is a great hammock for entry level. But it is actually great for more experienced hangers too. Mine has become my "go to" hammock.
