This is honestly the best video I have watched that you made. These observations you made are spot on to what I have been noticing are good check raise spots. Especially the part where you mention having backdoor flush and straight draws/overcards to continue. Also having a give up range when you don't hit those backdoors.

Wouldn't it be interesting if some of these streams played a little limit now and then , i'm kinda new to poker and never played limit, i haven't seen it played either, must be interesting playing limit " high stakes".
Great video, and appreciate sorting out the lighting issue. Great content as always. I like the CR at the low stakes bounty tournaments I play because the weak loose aggressive players there which make up the bulk it seems see it as a challenge and will regularly dump the entire stack in with only top pair... which makes me playing most trips, 2 pair, and some combo flush/straight hand plenty of bounties. Like everything though - do it too often and it becomes exploitable. Cheers!

I try to use a mixture of strategies in the same scenario on particular flop, turn, and river textures. I've also read a lot of different strategies and I'm refining and condensing those into my own unique strategy. It's still ongoing, but it seems to be working. I went from low 20s to 39% tournament cashes/ wins. I truly listen to what you say bc I know you're great!!! Much love. I'll see you on the felt one day soon.

I love how clearly you can break down these analytical concepts and strategic ideas. Poker isn't mechanical, so I need practise to apply this correctly, but I feel I have the conceptual framework now to practice and learn how to employ and respond to the flop check-raise.

I think it's really great when someone highly successful in his chosen field reaches out to help others learn. I follow you and a few others and have found my game has improved immensely. Last weekend I took second after 9 hours in a 100 person NL tournament and was really proud of myself.....even if I choked at the end after starting heads up with over twice the amount of chips. I find your enthusiasm and outlook on life to be highly motivating. But I'm never going vegan! 🙂

I used Check raised in the past as a tool to end hands on the flop. Usually when I have a set on a very wet board or huge draws. Where yes, I want to end the hand on the flop, still has a huge chance to hit big and win a huge pot. Now I mixed that with my check raise position when Im ahead with a good read to build a huge pot. That's on the flop, but in the river I use it as a bluff at times where I don't check jam as that is too polarized but check raising a good amount to act like I want a call. It's a good weapon to have in poker of knowing where and when to check raise but it is definitely one that can hurt your stack if it backfires. It shouldn't be used over 50% of the time you are in a hand as it becomes too obvious. Although It's one of the best to make money when you have a great read.
Really good shit. As a poker pro and semi-casual consumer of poker coaching content, this is way way way above average stuff here. And it really blows away anyone just using solver output.
Daniel, I played in a free tournament a while ago. I had a very aggressive opponent, who raised every single hand. I knew his style I had pocket tens under the gun he raised, and the player that was folding every single hand re-raised all in. I looked at my tens and decided that they were no good. The aggressor had ace five off suit, and the guy that was folding every single hand had pocket kings. Of course he hit the set on the river and I was happy I saved money

My parents taught me how to play when I was 7, I’m about to be 27. I’ve been playing for 20 years in one way or another. Check raising has always been in my inventory. I never really knew that it was dying.
so, this is true - I learned it on a Crime show, maybe "Numbers", anyhow, A person's perception of random is not random at all, they make patterns. I couldn't help but hear those lines when you were talking about randomising check/raise frequency. interesting Video- I like learning new ideas and hearing why we need to do 'this or that'.😏

I don't understand why you would specifically do or not do something, why something is 'out of fashion' or 'making a comeback'. You should have as many weapons in your arsenal as possible, to make it incredibly difficult for opponents to read you. It should be all about choosing the right play in the right situation, regardless of whether or not a move is considered 'fashionable'.
Iagree, i think he's just addressing a trend. i take pride in the fact that my opponents say they never know what i have , i give up some value but sometimes bluffing with the nuts really throws them for a loop.

I have found that a bet the size of the small blind or the big blind.If that's the minimum tends to provoke a lot more flop.Bluffs on top pair an overpair or bottom set. That also means having the nuts and a mid-range.Hand gets the same behavior which means people can misread me more often.
I like 4:08 part of the video when Daniel's face is in a bubble over the board. It's the same way I visualize Daniel's face when I'm in the tank about to call off a river shove with my top pair jack kicker and he's sceaming "FOLD YOU DONKEY"

What you are describing is true at 1/2 and 2/5 in South Florida on Thursday daytime, which is the only time I play anymore :'-) It might be true at 1/3 or 5/10 but those games don't seem to run when I'm there.

Pro Tip: If you are watching this video to learn how to check raise more effectively you probably are not playing against competition that you want to attempt to make them fold an over pair on the river. Save that shit for when you have graduated to watching videos on river bluff to value ratios and counting river combos.
The KJ hand when u say don’t lead out - On Final tables as chip leader these types of boards there is leads IMO ( only as chip leader is how I view it) I would even lead here with 45 putting on pressure if there is shallow stacks. Great video as always !!
Its going to be a mix of bad tight player. Bad loose player. Bad tight player who thinks people will respect this random bluff he wants to make Just play abc poker youll be fine
@atfti not necessarily. I would say dont bluff unless you're 100% sure they'll fold. You can call kind of light but just pay attention. Freerolls are so fast that its largely luck based. If someone goes all in on the river for a huge portion of your stack and you dont have at least 2 pair dont call. And dont feel confident unless you have a set or something

Check call should done majority of the time at position and at a trap. I used to check raise on the flop with top pair once I have made a reputation on the table that I'm playing right premium hands. All these moves should always be considered of your current reputation on the table. It should always be situationals. I have never played on style in any session, I always switch it up throughout my session. Usually a move to the opposite of the current majority style on the table. If the table has been more aggressive I tend to be more tight and when the table slows down, I go aggressive.
446 I'm check raising 85s 73s 53s 75s. If the turn card is 8 or lower I'm betting turn and blasting river. If it's a player who will call me with over pairs on river I give up. If they fold over pairs on river I'm 100% committed to stacking off or over betting them off the hand

I play deepstacked 2/5. I love check raising. We usually have a straddle on, open to 40-50 and still get 5-6 way flops. Check raising is so far superior to leading in almost every situation. Just coming out and leading first to act even with a strong hand can leave me on thin ice facing 6 players. Even with a hand like top two on a wet board; it can get ugly pretty quick facing 6 players. OOP I check raise way more than I lead out and bet. Not only that, but a stronger nut draw with 30-50% equity… it builds a pot, gets them more committed with the same weaker end of the flush draw. Check raising big is the only thing loose players respect. They’ll call 6 ways closing the action with middle pair or a gutter. Instead let someone else do the betting so you can get the pot big quick. When I say deepstacked… min buyin is 1000… as the night drags on 2-3000 buyin

It'll always be part of my game. lots of people will fold to any bet and if not , well now i know where i stand .
I played in six different casinos in two states and one country [California] four months ago, I encountered check raising quite a bit.

@atfti not necessarily. I would say dont bluff unless you're 100% sure they'll fold. You can call kind of light but just pay attention. Freerolls are so fast that its largely luck based. If someone goes all in on the river for a huge portion of your stack and you dont have at least 2 pair dont call. And dont feel confident unless you have a set or something

Check call should done majority of the time at position and at a trap.
I used to check raise on the flop with top pair once I have made a reputation on the table that I'm playing right premium hands.
All these moves should always be considered of your current reputation on the table. It should always be situationals. I have never played on style in any session, I always switch it up throughout my session. Usually a move to the opposite of the current majority style on the table. If the table has been more aggressive I tend to be more tight and when the table slows down, I go aggressive.

446 I'm check raising 85s 73s 53s 75s. If the turn card is 8 or lower I'm betting turn and blasting river. If it's a player who will call me with over pairs on river I give up. If they fold over pairs on river I'm 100% committed to stacking off or over betting them off the hand

How do you apply this to cash games? Is it worth fighting for the pot as much when time is on your side and blinds stay the same?
I'd say it depends what your goal is, to climb the pay ladder or play to win.
I play deepstacked 2/5. I love check raising. We usually have a straddle on, open to 40-50 and still get 5-6 way flops.
Check raising is so far superior to leading in almost every situation. Just coming out and leading first to act even with a strong hand can leave me on thin ice facing 6 players. Even with a hand like top two on a wet board; it can get ugly pretty quick facing 6 players.
OOP I check raise way more than I lead out and bet. Not only that, but a stronger nut draw with 30-50% equity… it builds a pot, gets them more committed with the same weaker end of the flush draw.
Check raising big is the only thing loose players respect. They’ll call 6 ways closing the action with middle pair or a gutter. Instead let someone else do the betting so you can get the pot big quick.
When I say deepstacked… min buyin is 1000… as the night drags on 2-3000 buyin
