Metallica wrote this after their equipment was stolen in early '84 and they had to start all over again. More specifically, James Hetfield wrote the lyrics in response to one of his amps being stolen. Not only was this amp his favorite, but it was also the first amp he ever owned so it had a lot of sentimental value to him. The song is about losing everything and wondering if it is worth going on.
It's so good, but this isn't even one of the better versions of this song on RUclips, they released a version yesterday and it's incredible, especially since he James plays an acoustic live now as well.

Just found your channel. Check out Metallica Live in Lincoln, NE on September 6, 2018. The entire concert is on RUclips. It was my 4th time seeing them in 4 different States and with all 3 bass players. That was their 6th time in Nebraska but first time ever in Lincoln in their 37 year career at the time of the show. It was also the first time in 8 years that they played The Unforgiven III (my favorite of The Unforgiven Trilogy) Good job. Keep on rocking

I've listened to Metallica since 1990 but if anyone asks I just heard of them because of Stranger Things. :) Oh, have you seen any Japanese metal? If not I recommend Nemophila 'Dissension' or Hanabie 'We Love Sweets'. Japanese metal is awesome now. It's so different. American metal is boring now.

I love guitar music. There are bands like Dragonforce that play incredibly fast, and Stevie Ray Vaughn who plays with such soul, but Metallica they just have the full package. The guitar riffs and solos are catchy, melodic, soulful and entertaining, but they also tell the story along with lyrics that are deep and meaningful. I love this band.

I'm always disappointed when people do the live version. The original with lyrics is a much better way to experience it, no visual distraction and all about the music and meaning
When I was a kid I was a Metallica fan because of my dad, but I grow up and move on from heavier and better bands. It's funny how a tv series or ad make some band relevant again lol

Elton John Zoom called in to The Howard Stern show when Metallica was there with Miley Cyrus and his comment was about Nothing Else Matters. Miley did a cover of it and her Producer asked Elton to do the intro and outro on piano instead of using guitar like Metallica did and Elton Zoom called in to talk to them about doing work on the song and that's when he said Nothing Else Matters was one of the best songs ever written. There's a video of it here on YT.

They've always played the accoustic live, I'm honestly shocked that they aren't in this one.
