"P" is the identifier for 2023. They don't use "O"...confused for zero...and it's the 10th digit of the VIN. There... you got me to comment... well played!
I agree with you, when you care about a customer and you remove features to reduce cost then you should 1. reduce the price of the vehicle since you're paying LESS to make it or 2. Explain the shortage and offer some kind of credit, free charging cable or something to show "we care about your business".
For those looking for a smoother ride supposedly they’ve improved the suspension in recent builds. I test drove a MYP and even with the 21’ wheels it felt smoother than my 2020 LR build.
Exactly what I was looking for! I drove a 2022 is it updated for smoother than a MY22? How’s the road noise/ wind noise because to me the 22 I rented was too loud
I wouldn’t say it’s smoother. My brother just got a 2023 long range with 20” wheel and my 2021 with 19” wheel is smoother. We even tried out switching wheels. It feels the same.
It’s not a chip problem. It is just to save costs. Sensors are much more expensive than a couple of cameras. Also lumbar support does not require any specific chips that were seeing shortages.
Ultrasonic sensors are not radar. The clue is in the word "sonic" verses the R in radar (RAdio Detection And Ranging). US sensor use high frequency sound and radar uses radio waves.
You totally missed the suspension changes to 2023 Y starting mid Oct 2022. This is a huge change. It’s also not backward compatible. Apparently, the suspension changes make it a better ride ( more comfortable).
The tenth digit represents the Model Year and is standardized by NHSTA. The plant that manufactures the vehicle is identified by digit 11 and in the U.S. it can be: F = Fremont, California, A = Austin, Texas
As an engineer I can say your chip shortage theory (which you state as fact) doesn't make sense for sensors nor things like lumbar support. These things are readily available and used in many cars. It's about cost and margin.
i dont think that they need a separate compute chip just to do lumbar support.. thats like saying every button in the car requires its own chip or every little motor requires its own chip which they don't. nonetheless it is cheaper to have one less little motor and moving part.
🤣 Tesla police. Hey, someone is in your comments section pretending to be you. Replied to my other comments and wants me to dm them about crypto currency. Not sure if you can kick them off your comments thread, but thought you should know.
Nice vid. I heard that the suspension on the 2023 Model Y is improved, can you confirm if that is true or not and if it is true then how much better is it? Thanks
@@teimll Exactly! I was going to say the same thing but you beat me to it. Elon once said that the best part was no part, the best process is no process. Tesla have a track record of deleting parts and processes whenever possible. There may be still som chip shortages but Tesla is less likely to suffer from them as at the height of the shortage Tesla took about 2 weeks to pivot to using different chips that wear not in short supply which was impressive as they had to rewrite the firmware for 19 sub controllers and do so in 2 weeks. I do not thus see Tesla suffering anymore and I agree with you that it is just deleting parts etc. I think that is one part they should have left alone but that is my view.
It is the short range ultrasound “parking” sensors that are missing on the 2023 car, not the radar sensor. The radar is also missing on the 2023 car, but that has no visible components on the 2020 car.
Thanks for continuing to put out great Tesla content. Would certainly like to know ride quality difference and possible side view camera difference if there is any and you can get the owner to allow you to drive for a comparison.
Great vid as always Gjeebs. I enjoy reading your comment section. I gotta say...I'm glad to see that I'm not alone when the comment section goes crazy about missed specifics...like I can't believe you didn't mention they changed the bolt size of the passenger caliper depressor! At least you turned yourself in though!
My 2024 MYLR came with Perelli (not Good Year) tires. The 11th letter is an A on the VIN which stands for Austin. That is followed by 24 for the year. I just got it 3 weeks ago and LOVE it! Price $44k (including optional white seats, tow package and Ultra Red paint)
We went to pick up a 2023 Tesla Model Y this weekend ,Saturday, Jan 7th 2023 and thanks to your review before taking delivery of our car we asked for a 2023 test drive and found that yes indeed they removed all the radar/sensors but they did not have vision installed. They said the vision was not safe but why would they remove the radar/sensors without having a replacement? We live in SF where it is very helpful to have the radar/sensor for parking in tight spots and parking in parking garages with small spaces. We declined the delivery and will wait until the vision camera's systems are working on the cars and will do another test drive to see how that function will work. Very bummed that this changed. I hope the new vision system will be as helpful as the radar/sensors.
We deferred picking up the car in 2022 to 2023 so we did not loose our deposit for the first deferral. Then we were suppose to pick up in January 2023. When we found out the car had no sensors and turned it down a second time. We did loose our $250 deposit. Like the other person said. Good thing since the price went down. But we are still waiting to see what they will do about the sensors before committing to a Tesla. In the mean time. We bought a used 2021 Nissan Leaf with all the bells and whistles and we are loving it!!
Prices are amazing right now. Dirt cheap. I got my 2023 Model Y AWD long range, with tow hitch, and 20” wheels, price at the show room $44,190 on this inventory vehicle. After taxes and $7500 incentive, out the door $42K. This again was brand new, last year’s inventory vehicle. They still have allot of these deals left. This was in Southern California. I still qualify for the state’s $1200 dollar EV rebate.
Thanks! My late summer ‘22 Model Y LR got the LED lights from the Performance model, plus the Ultrasonic sensors, but missed out on the cargo cover. I also waited over a year so my price was 56,990 to which I added white interior and Induction wheels. Very happy, but that carbon fiber dash looks like a great add-on! Agree that the ‘22 Model Y is a little “boomy”, not as quiet as I would like. So far, I’m the only driver, the wife and daughter haven’t decided to go Electric just yet. You have quite the wait before your daughter grabs the wheel! By then, she will be the one feeding you oatmeal for breakfast. 😂😢 Kidding.

One more Gjeebs… since 2022, they dropped data from all USB-C jacks. Only one offers data now, the USB-A port in the glove box. So gaming, music sticks, and video storage all have to happen from there.
Ben, did you get a chance to drive the 2023 to compare the new suspension to previous stock version and also vs your upgraded UPP luxury coil setup? I have a 2021 LR with the 20" wheels, love it but it's pretty harsh and unrefined ride. Thx.
Tesla has this habit of packaging lies as data and treat us all as idiots :D Just own up to it if cost needs to be cut. I just picked up my 3rd Tesla, I can take the truth. I may not like it, but it should be my decision based on facts, not lies. Passenger lumbar support is typically used once for most households. Driver seat may be shared, but it's usually the same spouse in the passenger seat. Without this feature, you can't even use it once. It's not how many time you change it, it's how many times you use it, and Tesla does not know how many times its used because you don't need to change lumbar support to use it. You only need to set it once to use it countless times a year
The biggest difference arguably, is that the 2023 model year (from 10.2022) has 5Mp cameras instead of 1.2Mp until then. Could make a big difference for FSD compatibility down the line.
Its the ultra sonic sensors, not radar, radar was removed already. Its more of Elon's cost cutting methods and his goals to deliver as much cars as possible, f@&k the consumer who has already placed his/her order when they do this change(If anything it should have been done for vehicles placed after the announcement of this change). We tolerate a lot from Tesla for the amount of money we pay for their vehicles. If it wasn't about cost cutting and maximizing delivery they would have waited till using Tesla vision was proven and released for an long enough period to do this change.

Most of the points you mention are already the differences you will be able to see between the 2020 and the 2022 models...I am wondring which are the differences between the 2022 and the 2023 edition. My brother in law has a trunk cover and its also a 2022 but I dont have one although its the same car, same year, same specs. The only difference I could detect between the 2022 and the 2023 are the sensors which are now gone.
I picked up my car this week and Tesla gave me a $7500 incentive on the vehicle and 15,000 free supercharging miles. Even though the 2023 loss some features, overall got an awesome car for significantly less lol. Also, I will say, I have driven both the M3LR and MYLR (2021-2022) and my 2023 drives smoother. And my passenger seat does have the lumbar adjustments. I just took a look.
Picking up a 23 Model Y LR on Monday in Indiana. The vin says its from Fremont. Do you know if Fremont is building the Y's with both front and rear single castings? I can't find info on internet anywhere. Also -I thought the free supercharger miles was 10,000 miles? Thanks
@@nopzzz No camera, no ultrasonic sensors for parking = Vision only, which is a lot worse. One thing I dont like Teslas are so expensive now with no Apple car play or Siriusxm but the higher end Tesla's get SiriusXM. Great video Ben just sucks things keep getting removed for the same price.
How’s the comfort compared to the harsh riding suspension before as well as the road/wind noise? To me the car is to hard riding and too loud inside I’m coming from Lexus
Why do people keep calling the Ultra Sonic Sensors radar? The USS is basically sonar, not radar. And yes, it was all about reducing chips. Tesla could have made a manual lumbar support for the passenger seat and that would have been fine. I never understood why Tesla didn't use the same cup holders in the front as they did with the rear seats. Tesla car prices fluctuate so often, I paid $52,720 for my Model Y Performance. It's not called BioHazard filtration, it's BioWeapon Defense Mode.
I’m running update 2022.40.4.1. I’ve heard 2022.40.4 implemented the parking distance tracking through cameras to replace USS. Can you please do a video showing how the distance tracking is using Tesla vision.
Gjeebs did you test out the ride quality improvement on the 23 MY? That would be a good comparison since Mr. Musk confirmed they have a "comfort" suspension. 🙏
I thought maybe it was my tv, but it’s not - the sound is off only on this one video, but the commercials are an appropriate volume. FYI check your production.
My 2023 has the sensors, so maybe it depends on if you order the FSD or other packages. My passenger seat also has the lumbar support. The trunk cover was an option.
You need to watch a few you tube interviews with Karpathy. He explains why radar and ultra sonic sensors are unnecessary. Your belief that their deletion was due to chip shortages etc… seems to be incorrect.
Hey @Gjeebs. Great video. Quick point : I got a new 2023 model Y and the 10th digit on VIN is P and not O as you said. I’ve seen it mentioned as O in some places and P in some others. Any idea what’s up there.
Dear Mr Gjeebs, My new Tesla MY is due to be delivered in December 2022. Do you know if the 2022 Kagu floor mats will fit the 2023 Tesla Model Y? The 3D Mats company has not listed the 2023 Kagu mats on their website. I suspect the interior of the 2023 MY interior is the same as the 2022, but I wonder if you could confirm. Thank you.
Yes they fit ! If you are in the US, send me your order confirmation using my code GJEEBS3D10 and I will send you a 3Dmats banner for the garage! rgbgfive@gmail.com
So I took delivery of my ‘22 MYP in mid October and I think I just missed the cut off for the ‘23 model year. My MYP came with everything minus the cargo cover and extra carpet in the rear passenger seats like you mentioned. I think I lucked out lol I wonder if I could add the cargo cover from Tesla. I’m beyond happy!
Aren't Tesla disabling the ultra sonic sensors (radar sensors as you call them) on cars that already have them? All cars will rely on Tesla Vision only...
Just picked up a 2023 myp on 11/14 and it came with pirelli p zeros and it did indeed include a truck cover. My wife is annoyed about not having the parking sensors up front, this was a feature she really loved when parking in our garage. I haven’t driven the myp yet however she said it felt just the same as my 2022 m3lr on 18’s. I will need to test the ride for myself this weekend.
Do you have any sources to back up your claim regarding the removal of parking sensors due to chip-shortage? Or are you just guessing based on your own empirical experiences ?

You need to watch a few you tube interviews with Karpathy. He explains why radar and ultra sonic sensors are unnecessary. Your belief that their deletion was due to chip shortages etc… seems to be incorrect.
Does the 2023 have comfort ride? Does it ride better?
I didn't get to drive it so I can't say
Rear emergency door release is also different.
I still can’t believe they removed the USS without having any implementation yet holy
Late model 2021s started these changes. I have it, can confirm.
I am glad you hit 100k subs and you should be at closer to 250k because of your great video content and quality of videos!!!
Thank you! working on it
Hey @Gjeebs. Great video. Quick point : I got a new 2023 model Y and the 10th digit on VIN is P and not O as you said. I’ve seen it mentioned as O in some places and P in some others. Any idea what’s up there.
O looks like zero, so they skipped it and went to P.

Well, they gave more than a $1000 credit, more like $13,000 and now people are pissed who have the older model with the button...lol
Thx for the nice video! Just one question though... How about the suspension? Did you get a chance to test drive 2023 model y?
Great video. Most of the changes look positive.
You did not mention the double glass on front side windows that was added - earlier in 2022.
Yea that was added in 2021 actually. A lot of small changes but add up to be a lot over the years
@@Gjeebs Can you do a video covering the differences/changes in model year changes 2021/22/23 for those that may be in the market to buy a used MY?
Great info of the updates thanks.
How about the suspension? Has that changed?
What Michelin tire and size did you put on your Tesla? Any impact on range? Thx!
It's the OEM size but they are the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s summer tires. I haven't tested if there has been a range loss yet.
was it so hard to park the cars side by side?
So I took delivery of my ‘22 MYP in mid October and I think I just missed the cut off for the ‘23 model year. My MYP came with everything minus the cargo cover and extra carpet in the rear passenger seats like you mentioned. I think I lucked out lol I wonder if I could add the cargo cover from Tesla. I’m beyond happy!
Even after the $13k price cut??
@@chocolat917 yup, not to worried about it. Interest rates are way different now than they were then. Depends how look at it.
Aren't Tesla disabling the ultra sonic sensors (radar sensors as you call them) on cars that already have them? All cars will rely on Tesla Vision only...
No they are not going two disable.
My car's ultral sonic sensors still work very well. It warns me and tells me the inch distance when I park, great feature.
My LRMY came with lumbar support. Maybe hit and miss right now
Yes on the driver side but what about passenger ?
Video content it is very good but camera work made me dizzy, I would suggest please consider get a camera man next time.
Did you ride in the 2023? Curious about the alleged upgraded suspension and ride quality
Can you test drive the new one and see if the new suspension is installed?
Whats the horsepower difference?
My MYLR 2023 still has USS, new front side panels, and NO trunk cover. Picked up from Santa Barbara
Thanks for keeping us updated! I hope baby girl is doing well!
I get my
Car this the end of this month til December. Can’t wait
You're going to love it!
how's the road noise
Jeers I agree 100 % about the chip shortage & Tesla’s excuses for them. Still love the car ⚡️👍🏽
The bin number year for a 2023 is “P” and not “O” 2024 will be “R”
Just a heads up, audio issues on this video via tv but not RUclips app
Thank you I will look into that!
I will need to test the ride for myself this weekend.
can we get an update here?
Is this eligible for shangahi models as well?
Do you have any sources to back up your claim regarding the removal of parking sensors due to chip-shortage? Or are you just guessing based on your own empirical experiences ?
I wasn't referring to the parking sensors when talking about the chip shortage I was talking about the lumbar support
@@Gjeebs OK my bad, but can you back it up with something?
That was his own opinion. How could he knows for sure while Tesla had not announced it. Use your own judgment.
What about the 2nd row seat bottom length? is 2023 longer than 2022?
10th digit is year. 11th digit is factory/plant made at.
I’m so happy for you guys
I loved the pink
have they started delivering new model Ys with these changes ?
Yes this is a new model y
Tesla can give two sh*ts about your customer loyalty... You are exactly right, all they care about is moving cars.
Ultrasonic sensors were removed, along with radar on the 2023
Radar was removed before 2021. I have a 2021 without the radar.
What about the ride quality, does it have the new comfort suspension?
I am doing a video on that this week!
@@Gjeebs did I miss the video?
