As a 1.0 owner, I am VERY pleased to see that REP is listening to consumer reports and implementing improvements. Also as a 1.0 owner, would anyone like to buy my 1.0?
Love that REP can admit that they made something that wasn’t great in the urethane handle and can laugh it off. Being honest is refreshing to the customer.
I get why people who ordered the 1.0 are upset, but at the same time, almost every product we buy is going to have a newer version released at some point. If Rep doesn't keep innovating, another company will.
I think REP is a great company. Great products and innovation and they listen to their customers. I'm definitely getting the Ares 2.0 when it comes out. Coop does a great job bringing all of this stuff to us so that we can make informed decisions. Keep up the good work!
I made the switch about a year ago after a decade of a Rogue rack as my foundation. Haven’t looked back at all, but my Athena setup has been such a game changer for my gym.
I do like the changes they made with the low row pulley, and a few other little details. However, to sell my 1.0 and take it apart and get my friends who spent 6-8 hours assembling it is not worth the hassle and pain. I really wish they had options to add on and not have to purchase a whole new Ares. I have Rep ISO arms with Vendetta Adaptors, as well I just purchased the Off rack storage unit to store all my rep urethane 5 to 75 pound dumbbells, so it would just be a nightmare to take everything apart and try and sell my old Ares just for a few new improvements. As well many people pointed out they will most likely come out with a 2.5 or a 3.0 etc in the near future? Innovation is just part the process. (which can be a good thing or bad thing for some people.)
As an 1.0 owner i am puzzled ..why this is not available as an upgrade to the 1.0 OG?? Different pulleys and brackets seem, at a glance, to be an easy upgrade. Upgrade the bottom brace that holds the plates, the plate rails and pulleys. Since REP listens to its customers… then they need to develop an upgrade to the 1.0. And yes review it please, Coop.
I actually love the bilateral movements you can do with the 1.0 pulleys. The 2.0 moved all the pulleys close together and I'm not sure it'll feel the same. TBH I'd rather just have the 1.0 low row mod from Anderson Welding and keep the width of the pulleys for single arm movements. Feels like the only true improvements on this are a slightly shallower stack for incline pressing in the rack and a very minor width increase on the trolley pulleys for flyes.
These functional trainers are really cool, but for the workouts they add compared to a simple high/low lat tower the prices are hard to justify. Definitely more of a want than need for most people. I do give Rep credit, they really listen to feedback and are constantly making improvements. Offhand I can't think of another fitness manufacturer that has ever come close. Rep has earned their success.
From a physical therapy perspective I think they are easy to justify. Especially if your rack is for the whole family to share and you have parents working on mobility and kids working on strength gains. I use my rack with weights, bands, functional training, calisthenics. It all just depends on your personal workout goals I suppose but probably not for everybody. Glad to see it as an option and that Rep is improving their designs though!
@@SkullKid467 Yes, I can see the benefit for physical therapy, but that would still fall outside of what "most people" need IMO. I just think these things are overhyped. They have their place,
Hard disagree, they are a one stop shop for just about any exercise you want. Especially when you consider attachments that are compatible for the rack.
@@mattymat1616 Yep I'd like to support Rogue and American manufacturing but they just flat out refuse to offer even simple things, like a rack-attached lat tower. They try to dictate what you should want while Rep gives you pretty much anything you could want at this point.
Ares 2.0 looks like the clear choice. All the feedback plus even more upgrades they thought about. Putting my whole rack and ares on marketplace and getting the new one in clear coat with the new ares 2.0
I'm happy I found this channel. I'll be getting myself a house in the next couple of months, hopefully, and need a garage gym for sure :D Great video! I've never seen a functional trainer before.. maybe it's worth a try?
Do you still prefer the dual Athena’s with lat pull/ low row attachment or does the ares 2.0 change your opinion?? I plan on buying one of those later this year. Can’t decide
Right! You need to have a buyer that has not only another Rep rack but it has to be the same configuration Rep rack as the one you currently have, and be local to you...that's a very small market...
That also somehow doesn’t know about the 2.0 version’s existence that they could just buy for themselves 🤔 I think it will be a lot harder to sell the 1.0s second hand than Coop is making it out to be
@@tstoke7877 it's all about how much you want to lose and the cost of switching. If I didn't already have something I'd buy an Ares 1.0 at 50-60% cost of 2.0 to save the money.
Nice. I was mad when Force USA upgraded their Compact Leg Press, right after I bought one- but was super pleased and appreciative that they turned it into a dual machine, for the exact same price- for future customers. As consumers, we also want things from brand we can be proud to support; and Rep is one of those brands
Does it have any band pegs options, I didn't see that mentioned. I like that on the Athena with selectorized attachment. Trying to decide between the two and really like that option.
These bastards!!! I wish I didn't see this.. I do enjoy the original Ares. But, I really like the changes they made for the 2.0. If I end up buying a different house, then I'd buy a brand new PR5000 with the Ares 2.0.
Rep, make the outer pulley’s even wider by putting them on buttresses. Also add a third, middle upright between the weight stacks to allow for mounting a seat for lat pulldowns like on the adonis, hell, it could allow the double pulley to ride in a carriage as well and be fully adjustable.
Coop they better be giving you commission. I bought the Athena/ Power rack 5000/ Lat pulldown for work gym because of your review last year. This year I love that thing at works so much I just bought the Ares 2.0 and power rack 5000 for home. Kinda looking forward to it more than the athena/lat pulldown combo. Seems like it will have more functionality and only have to have 2 weight stacks instead of 3. Glad i watched this vid today as i was going to pull the trigger on the Bells of steel weight stack/rack. Figured F it, few more grand for the ‘Crêmê dê lê Gym’ option. 1 and done sir
I have the ForceUSA X15 and use the heck out of it, but it definitely has enough quirks (which the Ares addresses) for me to dream about buying the REP version. Not sure about justifying the cost vs. other things I’d like for my space, but the Ares is just so beautifully designed.
I would like to see Rep design more rack Attachments than just coming out with new, bigger, more expensive machines (Adonis). Functional trainer after functional trainer, version 1.0, to 2.0.
If you really just want the lat pull and low row, is it better to just get that attachment for your pr5000? Is the quality still there ? Is it a smooth, good workout ?
Could the pulley system along the front upright be upgraded on the Athena to be similar to the ares 2.0? The limited height and inability to add more attachments is a bummer. I have an 80” rack.
yeah prime hlp is so good because the lat pull down is better and the fact that you can adjust the height of the low row. Only thing is prime hlp is like twice the price when include taxes and shipping
Selling my 5-year old rogue and moving to this Ares 2.0 functional trainer. I just need to check all of the measurements and I can keep the bars and weights but need to sell everything else I think? Not sure if I can use the J mounts or not or thinks like the safety straps.
I watch your stuff all the time and I’m going to be building my home gym soon. I would love to see a comparison between barbells specifically rep and rogue. I am looking at getting an Olympic bar for bench a deadlift bar and Saftey squat bar. If there’s a in-depth comparison on these or if you could make one that would be legitness!!!

Yup. I got mine in December. And I don't think this is shipping until after summer anyway so I'm not gonna stress about it. The upgrades are fairly minor. I guess with my frame I don't have an issue sitting on the ground or scraping my shins on rows with a bar although I do throw down a blue foam pad to sit on. And I'm not wide enough that I need the handles to be out further for flies. I use a bar on pulldowns too so I can't see the benefit of the top swivels either. I guess it might be better if you did things unilateral but so far I haven't needed to. I do squats in the rack but I do bench off the front with spotter arms. Not really a big deal either
Do you have anything you are currently using or you have no cables for a few months until the area 2.0 ships in aug-Oct depending on demand out of the gate?
How well do you think the low row will work as a belt squat? I’d worry with the higher cable attachment points with the 2.0 compared to the 1.0 would make such as use case less functional.
I’d be curious for more information on this stainless steel. Specifically, Ive heard that imported (Chinese specifically) stainless steel is of a significantly less quality than Northern American. Specifically around its resilience to rust.
