  • Paralives paramaker includes tons of customization, from layering to the color wheel and other features. Here's how paralives gets clothing and accessories right (and a few weak spots) and what it says about paralives development as a whole.
    Stay tuned for news, updates, pack reviews and commentary about paralives, sims 4, life by you, inzoi and more.
    Background Info & FAQ
    When paralives was first announced, there was a lot of excitement building into how this simulation game from an indie studio could be a new game like- but different- than the sims. But though there are many complaints about sims 4 gameplay, every new life simulation game is met with criticism after its announcement- especially paradox's life by you, and, later on, maybe INZOI, the Korean simulation game.

    The ability to layer items of clothing as well as the color wheel (especially if you can add patterns) can really help the versatility so that you don't need to make as many specific items. It's interesting to see how they develop the clothing choices.

    You possibly had read it a thousand times, a few dozen items of basics with the customizations Paralives have, you can have thousands of combinations.
    I do find the seemingly basic items working well to seem timeless and not really dated. Of course you can always customize them to make them fit to a certain time period (well from the 60s - 2010s at least)

    • @SimmerErin
      @SimmerErin  3 месяца назад +2

      yeah, a lot of them aren't "trendy" or going for a very specific year, and that's a great point to bring up. That's especially wise since it's a while before its launch too a lot of the looks are more classic and simple and I think that works well

    • @fransmith3255
      @fransmith3255 3 месяца назад

      And there will be a TONN of mods that will be made going forward with 'current' looks as they emerge anyway. But the basics rarely really change that much, and we actually wear them all the time, generally. It's great that it'll all be taken care of, no matter how we want to dress our Paras.

    I've probably mentioned before I am not super into fashion and don't really follow what's popular or trendy, so I'm not the best person to assess fashion items. That said, I agree with basically what you're saying - there seems to be enough of a range of colors, styles, patterns, textures, layering abilities to make the Paramaker feel versatile. I'm not sure what else I'd like to see. Maybe some swooping necklines for more formal/wedding and/or late night date night kind of styles. Maybe another plain, simple dress that can suit everyday wear (that's mostly what I myself wear - a very simple dress in various colors/patterns - literally the same dress in multiple designs and short & long sleeves). Aside from that, I think I see a lot of assets and things that already look like quite a lot of variety. They've hit a lot of the staples that I'm familiar with, but I'm also a white person living in the U.S. so maybe people from other places could contribute more for what they might be missing so far. I'm sure there are specific pieces that are more common in other parts of the world.
    Don't apologize for covering new/cool hairs either. Those are always lovely to see, and it's nice to see how experimental we'll be able to get with hairs (along with makeup, tattoos, etc.)

    • @SimmerErin
      @SimmerErin  3 месяца назад +3

      OOH I agree with the things you'd like to see! Different necklines in general. But Honestly, you do not have to be into fashion! In fact, I think it's best to get a wide range of perspectives. A lot of people (I Imagine) just want a nice variety of things and staples that make sense
      Ha they have such great hairs honestly! I want to go through and see all they have made again. I feel like I made this video as an excuse to enjoy what they've shown us so far

    I can't wait to see how all these new life sim games actually feel in action vs just seeing previews of stuff. Its definitely easier to tell if a life sim game or DLC is going to be good if you actually can play it instead of seeing previews and hearing them talk about it. I mean I guess its that way with all games, but there are some games where you can see a preview and know how you would feel about it from the preview

    Blab away. 😁 I suspect that outfit doesn't look right at the hips because it's the body shape (wide hips), not the clothing.
    I'm really looking forward to creating my own Paras. I think they're great and even for a smaller team, as long as they provide enough variety at the start the combination of options should be quite extensive. Enough doesn't need to be a lot, just variety to mix and match. They already have the colour wheel and patterns so they're off to a great start. That's something other games (not just life sims) miss by mainly providing set full outfits that offer no variety except a material change.

    One of the advantages of going with a colour wheel and pattern approach, plus layered outfits, is... You get so much more bang for your work than the Sims 4 approach of a limited number of swatches. If they add something as simple - and _specific_ - as a mesh shirt, that's going to both look vastly different depending on if you make it black, white, green, neon pink, etc... But also if you layer it on top of another shirt - and what shirt - or wear it over flesh, and if you have a jacket over the top of it, it could wind up looking anywhere from a punk look to a gay guy going to an LGBT nightclub, to fashionable young woman going shopping and just having that as one of her layers. A blazer has a different look and vibe if it goes over a t-shirt or a button up shirt, and this process allows them to get all those vibes from just one asset.
    T-shirts is the part where I have... Concerns... with this approach, since where The Sims 3's customization struggled for me was... There were very few options if you wanted a Sim to be wearing a t-shirts with a singular image on them, rather than a pattern or solid colour (in which case you had the whole colour wheel at your disposal). Kids, teens, and these days adults use the images on their t-shirts to say something about their interests, so I hope that's possible to replicate in Paralives - Ideally easy ways of customizing a single image onto a piece of clothing in the same way we can apparently easily input our own pictures into the game for artwork plus use a wide variety of images already in the game. Also hoping it's easier to get colours to actually match each other in Paralives than Sims 3 (where sometimes the same colour and fabric applied to different clothing would look completely different because sometimes there was a bit of colour seemingly baked in'to the items)

    • @SimmerErin
      @SimmerErin  3 месяца назад +9

      100 percent! Not only do you get more out of it, but it really allows the player to bring their own vision to it. Relying on premade swatches and not being able to layer can make things much trickier to pair too.
      yeah, I am not sure if they plan further customization or not; as far as t-shirts, I do like anyway that it looks like there are at least two or so fits- a looser and tighter

    • @exosproudmamabear558

      They can add a tattoo customisation for that. They already have that movable tatoo placement they can do it for t shirts too.. And if you ask me why it isnt canvas customisation because canvases are flat clothing needs distortion according to the clothing shape.. Secondly canvas customisation placement has limits this mechanic is more than enough for canvases but for clothing designs and tattoos it doesnt work as you want it

  • @MirificentJoy
    @MirificentJoy 3 месяца назад +31

    I like that they make basic items, because we need them. Realistically speaking, I don't think a lot of us wear super out there items. It will mainly come down to the patterns. Most items presented here are basic enough that they are timeless and with small details that make the items stand out enough that it's not just boring. It kind of makes me think of uniqlo which is a brand of basics mostly, but sometimes with interesting cuts (not always the most flattering but it might be for someone else!)
    I hope we'll see more outfits on more different body types. I hope they won't shy away on the patterns though, so we can truly have versatility with a few items, since it seems to be the route they are taking.
    I can imagine in due time more out there outfits catering to a specific type of event after the game is out (like more formal outfits when they develop more formal events). But until then I think they have a nice catalogue that they're nicely expanding upon! I wonder how CC creators will do though to match. I feel like Paralives' textures will be hard to match so I hope we'll have a good base without trying to add more!

      @SimmerErin  3 месяца назад +8

      yes agreed! I do like some signature or more out there pieces. but when building the foundation of the game I love the direction it's going. I very much agree that it's basics with small details and those small details do make a difference. I also saw someone say they don't feel like they are styles that will quickly be outdated- cause they aren't going for trends so to speak as much as staples
      Yes, as far as different body types, I cut one part out- while editing, there was some variation in the paramaker reveal, but certainly we haven't seen as much as I'd love to see in the future :)

      @@SimmerErin I agree. I found in The Sims, even The Sims 2 & 3 in fact, that most of the clothes just weren't staples, and I tended to use the same stuff over and over, because most of the stuff just wasn't what everyday people would wear. When I watch Paralives videos, with the exception of the obvious wacky funny items (which of course also have uses), I find myself thinking I could use every single outfit I see, depending upon personality. This is the difference between a well thought out game and a game that just been slapped together in terms of things like clothing, even with the much loved games that I pumped 1000s of hours into, Sims 2 & 3.

But i generally really enjoy the stylised art direction they took and enjoy the hand drawn look. Really cool to see some different styles too so it isn't juat cottagey and casual looking. For example the punk look they put together. Its also so good to see great mens fashion. There's always a focus on young adult female fashion with very little focus on masculine clothing. The suit has lovely tailoring and the casual masculine tees look comfortable and fit naturally on the masculine frame.
