Good idea to pull the pin on the first day, frustration sometimes leads to errors & accidents😊 I love how Kenji just keeps lying on the concrete, meanwhile Jeremy has to work around him🤣❤️ Take care & cheers🥰
In case you weren't following when they chose the concrete siding for the house, it's because it offered protection from wildfires which being in the mountains is a possibility. So great choice in my opinion.
Jeremy....Next time you're faced with fitting 2 walls between existing buildings, "stick frame" it. I.E. Bolt down the green plate, cut and nail up the end studs, cut and install the top plate and the center studs off the ladder. Nail on the dbl top plate, and toenail the bottom of the studs...wala. You don't always need to frame small walls laying down. "Work smarter, not harder." Your house looks great, Dude!
In agreement with that advice. Also just out of curiosity.. why don’t we see more of your older son helping lift these walls ? Or doing the construction work with you. My boys were 14 and 13 when we started building our homestead. They have helped with every square inch of our home. Even plumbing, ditch digging. They are well trained and fit and strong .
For ‘fit in place’ walls like the 2 x 12 wall, I have always pre cut the pieces, but then assemble them in place. That avoids the twisting and turning and misfits due to dimensions not working for the rectangle dimensions of the outside of the frame. The diagonal of the 2 x12 wall profile is more than the measured opening.
@@ShalomShalom-d5c I know I heard that too. But, then he proceeds to assemble pieces of it after they set it in place. Then on the other wall they had two sets that they put in place on opposite ends and fastened together. There was nothing in the big wall that could not been put in place individually or in small groups and then fastened together.
When frustrated with a project walking away for the day or several days is the best thing you can do. Clarity is easy to obtain when not physically and emotionally exhausted.

We’re so jealous! Still working on fixing up our 100 year old house we bought last fall. We’re hoping to start the garden this spring but NOPE! Not yet! Lol hopefully next year!
I keep looking at the hallway and thinking if it was mine I would move the back wall farther back and make a much larger area to use as a mud room. With entrances to both buildings from outside it should give you a space to leave all outerwear and shoes without bringing in snow, mud, hay , rain or anything else that collects to you from the outside. Add hanging space to that shoe rack and you’ll have storage for all your bulky clothes that are used for outdoors. Too late now but just my thoughts. Love ❤️
It seems like there should be another door opening on the back side of the hallway, so that you don't have to go all the way out and around the garage to get to the back. Plus in the summer you could have both doors open and have a lovely breezeway. Just a thought :D I love watching your builds! edited to add: I like the industrial shoe rack idea :D
@@Mark_Spivey Yes, indeed. I saw that as the video went on. It seems like with a little planning the plumbing could be run over the doorway? But idk, I'm not a builder, just tossing out some ideas. Thanks for taking the time to respond :D
Breezeway should be wider too, like a mud room bc come winter & they use the front door on that breezeway their boots will be muddy & heavy, harder to take off. Jackets too. Who wants to track all that into the house? I lived where it snowed & we added a mudroom for these reasons.
You are going to have your ups and downs, but you both know when to stop, take a break, and figure out plan B. That’s great that you have friends to help with the harvest. Looks like the kids are really enjoying the horses. Enjoy your time with the family. It’s coming together little bit by little bit!
I had a coworker once, who, to get her two college-aged sons to adhere to the "no clothes on the floor" rule, added the "clothes on the floor get put in trash bags by the curb" rule. Didn't take long before they began adhering to rule #1. So.. shoes not on the rack.. go "missing".
Most kids I kno wiuldnt care about that! When they do the dishes they throw everything into the trash can. Pots pans flatware plates cups- everything. So "the clothes at the curb", meh, mom & dad will just hav to buy more. Unless they are 4 yrs old, that wouldnt work. Maybe a better rule is if shoes are not on the rack, that kid looses priveledges & has to write 500 sentences like "I will do as Im asked to do or suffer the consequences." We encouraged our 15 & older kids to debate their cases, respectfully. sometimes they won. They may hav a better solution.
I'm really enjoying the second chanel. We all have burn out days sometimes, and it can be better to just take a break, and let our minds, and bodies rest, and come up with new solutions.
If you'd have built the wall in place you'd still have original anchor bolts. The other way is to build the wall in two pieces which takes more lumber as you know. It's looking good though. I'd put a window or door with glass on that front wall area...... natural light and an easy way to get in with muddy boots on so you keep the house cleaner at the entrance. Y'all sure are building a very beautiful home.

Seeing them less & less as their kids started growing, once a year if we were lucky, bc they had commitments. We sold our beautiful home so we could be part of their lives.
@Good Simple Living there is a simple way to fix your wall and save your Anchor Bolts. You cut a 2x12 the length of the floor and fasten down the anchor bolts. Cut off the excess anchor bolts, Cut your wall 1 1/2 inches shorter than length (top - bottom). Drill 3/4 - 1 inch hole in bottom board of wall section where anchor bolt/nut is. Nail it or screw the bottom boards together. Simple as that. Done it many times as a Carpenter.
Beautiful day up there in northern Idaho. Looks like you had a wonderful time celebrating the 4th. The build is coming along nicely. The breezeway will makes it easier to move between buildings in the winter. Good luck and God bless. 💖💖💖
A great way to heat that space between the house and garage would be to do electric under floor heating. For such a small space it will heat well and it’s not super expensive. They even have thermostats! It’s looking great!
Lumna Acres did that to their home etc! They are doing the floor right now of the huge shop theyre building. They live in New Hampshire on 500Acres. He & his wife excavate & build everything.
Yes my Mom told us when it thundered God was bowling, and when it rained the Angels were crying. I told my kids the same when they were afraid, the kids believed it till they were older and learned science. HA HA but it worked. love what you are doing to the house. Be safe and Bless You all.
I see a mud room area...put in benches, hook, cubbies and a boot drying station since you guys have harsh winters..just a suggestion..aka winter wet area..
Great video. You guys do such a great job together. The new addition is looking good as well. Glad to see your family relaxing and enjoying some time together. 👍❤️
I noticed all the hard work you put into the new walls that connect the New Garage apt to the house. What I didn’t see is the cut out above the placed wall for you to add your roof for this connection. Is it going to have a flat roof? Prob not conducive for the heavy snow you guys get plenty of in winter. Anyway, I just watched you clear the cement siding for the attached walls but it looked like you stopped at the top of the wall line. Love watching your build ( don’t believe I’ve missed any of your build from day one. You guys are awesome ( tireless). Can’t wait for next video. Regards Jimmy Booles Fort Worth Texas

Some walls have to be assembled in place. You toe nail the bottoms of the studs into the bottom plate using 8d nails at twice the number of 16d nails that you would have used. Good Luck, Rick
I still think a level crossover, from the house to gaby, that's level with the house door and a single exit door, for outside access. With the floor of the passageway level, all the plumbing and electrical to run below the floor. Plenty of room and should be frost free, or easier to attain.

Too kind, we just try to figure things out in a way that makes sense for us.
I absolutely LOVE the new channel. I put my headphones on and start cleaning. It's a great way to laugh and get stuff done without realizing you have done anything. Thanks for all you do!
Thanks so much.
The addition is coming along nicely..so glad you showed some of the gardening...
Love the time laps moon and cloud footage. And its so nice that you film so.e of the frustration and mistakes because we all have them and its always nice to know we arent the only ones. Thank you for being genuine. ❤
Thanks so much!
I second all that! 😊
You two are just so cute with your innuendos ☺️
I have/had a thought, why not build the walls but not put the bottom board on, put the bottom board over the bolts, put the rest of the built wall in place, toenail it in the bottom board and walls? Just my thought when having run into a problem like this myself.
I look forward to every Saturday video. Thanks for sharing your family and the adventures of Good Simple Living!!! Bad days make the good days even better!!!!

Next time cut slots. Put the wall over the anchor bolts, slide it into place, and then fill in the slots. Using wood glue or construction adhesive.
Another day of getting more things done on the build. It's going to awesome once completed. God is blessing y'all and y'all have such an amazing communication with each other. Continued prayers for a completing of the build and finishing it off. Y'all are a precious family that laughs and enjoys doing it together. ❤❤
What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger 💪
And I truly admire you and your family for putting so much into building your home together and always thanking God for what you could accomplish for the day and those strawberries omw looks so good here we have strawberry farms where you can pay and fill your bucket
Yehhh, there are both connected. Sometimes we all know that no things get complicated with building, but you cracked it and weldone it, looking good. Love watching you all get it done together. You're such a creat family.
Thank you! Cheers!
I do love y’all new GSL UNCUT, I pray you guy’s don’t get discouraged about anything y’all are doing because there is no need for it,I went through the empty nest deal a long time ago,I’m 68 now and it is so fantastic to sit back and watch my children thrive on what they learned at home, you will still worry BUT seriously it will be okay,GOD BLESS YOU ❤
Dont you miss seeing your kids & Grand kids grow? We built like they did, then our kids went to off college, moved out of state, got married & had kids all 2000 miles from us!
My wife and I just finished our semi annual movie. Sound of Freedom. Thank you for sponsoring our tickets. Most powerful!
Ça va être très bien et oui le meuble à chaussures est une excellent idée Mélissa
Bon courage à vous
Hâte de voir la suite
Bonne journée 😊
The addition is looking fantastic guys. What sort of roof are you putting on the breezeway connection ? Will have a look at your new blog GSL Uncut.
Yes my Mom told us when it thundered God was bowling, and when it rained the Angels were crying. I told my kids the same when they were afraid, the kids believed it till they were older and learned science. HA HA but it worked. love what you are doing to the house. Be safe and Bless You all.
Yay connecting the two houses!!! 🎉 Enjoy your family time ❤
Thank you!! 😊
I see a mud room area...put in benches, hook, cubbies and a boot drying station since you guys have harsh winters..just a suggestion..aka winter wet area..
Have you considered the snow removal between house and
Gabby? 😮 Fun living with you from the Midwest!😊
Regards

No, we just haven't cut that out yet.
The hallway is great! Always new challenges when building! Also enjoyed the podcast and look forward to hearing more!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video, once again of so much valuable content; learning from setbacks, laughter, fun, and dedication to hardwork no matter what!! You TWO are rare breeds!!
PS....I have an index card of almost every product sponsor link from yr videos that I've planned to order many of them!! And AG1 is on my 1st order! I SO need that NOW; especially still being in the thick of Shingles! Need all the help I can get, to include Creatine to build up my muscle again, as I can't lift heavy anymore! Prayers appreciated!
Oh my goodness, that is so painful! I hope you heal up soon!
Thank you Melissa, really appreciate your heart, and compassion! Yes, it's not just painful, but itchy, and debilitating down to the core!! Love y'all! ❤️ Thx for prayers! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Well you have a roof, and progress on the breeze way . I'm pretty sure you're going too reuse that light and the door. Have a good week and God bless amen. 🇺🇸
Thanks, you too!
Love watching your channel . Refreshing and motivating to see a motivated, positive family working together on a beautiful home/homestead! Subscribed to the new channel.
I love the way the house is going to be connected to the garage and apartment. Can’t wait to see it all when it is done. Y’all did such a great job on the house.
😢
😂🎉
Hey, I hear you, we all have those days. I hope things work out and get better as the days progress. Wow, those ariel shots just blow me away in how beautiful it is where you are living. Great job on the house connection guys. That's cool getting family time. Love the vlog. :)
Thanks so much!
One of the things that I really like, and appreciate, about your channel is your honesty. You show your success but also your set backs and struggles. But despite them you push on and get through it. You show us the genuine journey you're on which is why I think so many people enjoy watching GSL. On a different note, we are a law enforcement and military family; I am deeply grateful for the ending of this video. Your reflections on our country and those who have/are serving was very touching. Thank you Melissa. And thank you Jeremy so the service you gave as well.
We just show us…whatever is goi g on. Thank you.
The connection of the two buildings look great and the fireworks
Thanks!
Some walls have to be assembled in place. You toe nail the bottoms of the studs into the bottom plate using 8d nails at twice the number of 16d nails that you would have used. Good Luck, Rick
I prefer using 3" screws (after drilling pilot holes) instead of toe nailing.
Those spots are better built in place for that reason. Looking good guys
Just come a cross your video and fall in love with it, so now am going no where.
Thank you so much 💓 Welcome!
I still think a level crossover, from the house to gaby, that's level with the house door and a single exit door, for outside access. With the floor of the passageway level, all the plumbing and electrical to run below the floor. Plenty of room and should be frost free, or easier to attain.
Kenji really loves that cat. I wanted Everlog siding when I built but my contractor talked me out of it as HOA would have objected. Tip never build in an HOA. You folks have the right idea on where to live. I miss the ranch, cows and especially the horses.
We had an HOA for our 1st house, never again
