I heard a good explanation of the pvp IVs, if you have a jar and want to fill it with marbles, the jar is the CP cap, marbles are the stats. Attack marbles are twice the size of def and HP marbles so you get more marbles in the jar with less attack
For people dealing with lag: when the opponent swaps out, look at the top right. To see the pokémon or its name, you will often eat several fast attacks. Or maybe even a pre-charged charge move before you even know what it is. But if you look at the top right, the type of that Pokemon will show up and update much faster.
Thanks a lot! This has been really helpful, coz I’m just learning pvp and I’ve been grinding great league. I lead with ferrothorn and it’s common for my opponent to switch into a talonflame or turtonator or something, but using the pop up in the right I can know the fires coming and switch out to carbink before ferrothorn gets destroyed by an incinerate or two. Fire types hate carbink… unless it’s heatran but you very rarely see him in great league
How do you articulately explain pvp concepts to newbies and intermediate level players? THIS is how you do it! Always a pleasure watching and digesting the tips!
The pop-up graphics, the side-by-side gameplay. I know my PVP, but man watching this video just for the production was worth it! Good job Daxi, and thank you Dan!
I would really like a video on the PvP meta for each season. Changes, what to look out for in the great and ultra league. More meta relevant teams strengths and weaknesses. Maybe Dan would be better off doing a segment on this.
There's a bunch of guys that do videos like that within hours of the new updated moves and moveset changes dropping. Usually the videos are out so fast that they usually have a few things wrong that because Niantic had wrote the wrong info on their site.
I would argue that understanding "Team Building" should be intermediate, not advanced. But otherwise, this is SUPER helpful in understanding battling mechanics and strategies.
Incredible video! This was so helpful in explaining a lot of the concepts I've been trying to understand in PVP and explained mechanics I didn't even know existed. I'll be re-watching this several times-a wealth of information. Much appreciated!
Huge caveat to the advice given here to play at midnight. As with any ranked competitive game, if you play when the server load is light, you are more likely to be matched with more varied opponents. If I play at one in the morning, I am very often searching for an opponent for a while, and then end up with people that are much higher or lower level than normal. If I play at around 6:00 p.m., everyone is very evenly matched with me, even in terms of the kinds of teams they're using. The matchmaking is much better when the servers are full.
Great advice! I amazed how I kinda figured most of this out on my own. Giving away all these secrets, now I see why rank 20 is tough :) Another consideration, yes a person can count fast moves....but I do like throwing them quick and hopefully cause frustration...gosh they're throwing something already...and again....
First of all, thank Daxi for always making these incredible explaination videos...and also, thank you Dan for being apart of this awesome compliment of knowledge. I always hit Ace, every season.. but its difficult to raise pass that.. i normally go with teams of pokemon i like, for eg, Togekiss, Melmetal, Excadrill for the master league.. but i couldnt have told you any of that 'ABB' stuff. Now I understand what is required to build teams, somewhat, but im sure it will take alot of practise
You’re receiving tons of praise and it’s well deserved! Just started “seriously” learning to battle in GBL last season. My BIGGEST mistake was to try and level every “Meta” Pokémon or counter meta … wasted sooooo many resources! By the time I got my stunfisk (g) up for great league it was time for Ultra and I have no team lol… so last season was rough. I had to stop with scatter gun leveling… none made it and I’m broke. NOW I am so worried I’ll waste more resources I am not leveling anything 😂. I’ve been reading/watching every thing I can and still suck (peaked at 1641 last s12). I NEED a “core” group to build around
Nice to see @Danottawa here as a fellow Ottawa player myself. He’s so right about good players just knowing matchups, the first season I hit legend I played the same GL and UL lines for the entire season without ever switching. I’m by no means a good player, but by “one tricking” my teams and playing so many matches, I had very strong knowledge of the specific line I was running for that league, and just that alone was enough to hit legend, despite my overall relatively low game knowledge.
People tend to forget that ghost types takes neutral damage from psychic types this helped me a lot in the master league with mewtwo vs giratina, mewtwo can 2 shot giratina with psystrike which can at least force a shield.
This subject takes hours to dive into and really get a hold of. You’d have to simulate thousands of matchups and scenarios to cover all the meta win conditions throughout just the regular leagues, teams and move variations
@@bertram1724you’re doing a great job of saying nothing bud. try harder to explain and it’ll help YOU understand more what you are trying to articulate … if you even do know 🤧
@@PSYCHOV3N0M basically, to win you have to think about which pokemon can beat the opponent pokemon , think about your energy ,shield usage ,switching possibly and in a way you have to think steps ahead. Like Bertram mentioned it is a topic that you have to learn individually by you playing or seeing someone else play .
From my experience fast moves such as Mudshot, Thundershock, Psycho Cut and Power snow, are typically the best type of fast moves especially for PvP/Rocket boss/Grunt or any trainer battle in general that are not raids, as they charge up energy to use your charged moves the fastest and thus being able to attack first depending on what charged moves you have can either make or break the battle for you, usually make), as being able to attack first can either get you opponent to Sheild first or if not can get you a Ko or even if no ko or no shield still will put you at an advantage if you opponents go is lower and close to being Koed and may be able to quickly farm down or if the charge move has a star debuff then that can also turn the battle around. Typically speaking in a PvP or any type of non raid battle situation it's good to have an efficient fast move that generates the most energy and two charged move, with one of them being a 3 bar spammy 35-40 energy charged move to be able to quickly and efficiently spam sheilds especially against rocker bosses, and with the 2nd move being your nuke move, but preferably not a one bar high energy move like hyper beam as they do high damage but are usually not efficient as they can take too long to charge up. Typically a 2 bar, 40-55 energy 2 bar move that can do around 70 to as much as 100 damage, as those are usually the best nuke moves as they are efficient in energy and not too slow for the good amount of damage they do, such as shadowball, outrage etc
Very comprehensive. It took multiple seasons with help from friends to absorb the concepts. But the reward is multiple legend and chances to get a shiny Libre.
Hit legend in season 12 (3168 season high) and got to 2939 in 11. What changed everything for me, besides just the experience of playing, was the move timing optimization. I never could get past veteran before I learned proper timing. It seemed like I kept losing very close battles all the time. Once I learned that the vast majority of those close losses could’ve been wins if I had used proper timing, I learned it by heart. And now I don’t even think about it. It’s mechanical for me. And I’ve watched my ELO go from the 23-2400s to nearly 3200 as a result.

Best advice I can give anyone serious about hitting legend ; Pick a meta line for the GL and UL, and ONLY run that line for the season. Don’t switch Mons because you have a few bad sets. Persist with the line and you WILL eventually start succeeding because you’ve experienced certain matchups and situations so many times. It’s inevitable. Just takes discipline, but it’s worth it.
Thank you, helped a lot! But here a little feedback: Dan Ottawa didnt explain a few things very well (even if I am happy, that such a high elo player gives us tips!), especially the important part with the Switch, Shiled, Lead Advantages, he nearly only gave definitions (which we knew already), but didnt explain strategies how we can get this advantages. But the Team explanations was cool, good to have, even if I didnt understand the advantages of all teams to 100%. Thank you, I loved your explanations and even Dan Ottawas part was good!
I've been playing for a minute but even I learn something new, I generally always try to get all of the bubbles for a charge move as the way I see it, I prefer to ko my opponent to not give them a chance to let off another charged move that could either be detrimental or make me use another sheild. I never thought of it that way as far as farming down
The bar around the health of the mon will also denote the effectiveness. In case a player missed the wording. White neutral, red Super effective, blue resisted
Do you have a video that shows how to choose the right Pokémon to build? That whole process of choosing, investing, and deciding which league to use it?
I have this team that helps me a lot, it's first vaporeon with a aqua tail, not a lot of energy and most ppl just use their shields on those and in the average battle that 1 Pokémon kills the first 2 or makes the 2nd low, then rypherior to counter and gyarados to finish em off if needed
While RUclips only allows a like. I think they should dole out Extra Likes! Like a limited amount per month. You deserve an extra like on this! I feel sooo many don't know these things. And while I like the wins, I appreciate a good loss! This vid will promote me having more good loss scenarios. Better opposition, means I get better. Or die trying🤣 This is a Fantastic Vid!
I play more for the fun I am using (in great) Alola marowak -fire spin -bone Club -shadow ball. Stoutland -ice fang -wild Charge -crunch Kingdra, (Mine does count as a dragon type, so not afraid of the electric type) -Waterfall -Octazooka -blizzard and whit this team i have ca. 50/50 win rate.
Me too. I do a few battles once in awhile just to have fun because getting rank 20 you aren’t even guaranteed a legandary Pokémon. If you we’re guaranteed one I would definitely try and get rank 20
The more I watch into this video, the more I realize how much of an unintentional douche in battles I've been Niantic went "what, you never ever made an account with us, but you also can't make a new account with the same email" back in 2017, and I just rejoined. I didn't know all this stuff had names, but I've been doing almost all of it and it baffles me that it's not absolutely obvious after a little bit of playing.

Persist with the line and you WILL eventually start succeeding because you’ve experienced certain matchups and situations so many times. It’s inevitable. Just takes discipline, but it’s worth it.
sometimes it is favorable to debuff yourself to give the opponent less farm, for example dragonite against togekiss
i like the slight voice crack at 11:50
Thank you, helped a lot!
Phenomenal content, thank you so much for sharing!
Best POGO PvP video ever created bar none.
Phew! I thought I was fine but learnt a lot! Maybe I can finally get out of Ace this season
4:03 also with the water and fire you can just hold your finger on the screen and you will automatically hit all the bubbles.
Poison too
@@bertram1724 I hardly do any poison charge moves but I’ll try it out next time I do for sure!
Great video. I'm not very good at pvp because I don't really like doing it but I need to get better, and this helped lots.
ive already hit legend previously but i’m still watchin
Learnt about shield colours, thanks dax
When poke daxi drops a new video🤩
This video is old dude
This is a huge help. The strategies help me with the battles.
Good explanation!
First and I love u content keep on going bro
U not first
Thanks Professor Daxi! With you help, I'm sure I'll become a Pokemon Master.
Solid info🤙🏽
This is fantastic!
An "Earthquake sending a opponent flying" is actually pretty funny 😂
Hardwork bro love it
Yes,
I want to be the very best.
Like no one ever was
DanOttawa has crazy knowledge + experience - dudes have to check him out
Another banger Daxi
I've been playing for a minute but even I learn something new, I generally always try to get all of the bubbles for a charge move as the way I see it, I prefer to ko my opponent to not give them a chance to let off another charged move that could either be detrimental or make me use another sheild. I never thought of it that way as far as farming down
Huge thanks for these tips and teaching aids. So much to learn but hopefully get to ace this season
Massive video that needed an update. you got so much good points in one video
Great content
Keep up the good work bro 👍
The bar around the health of the mon will also denote the effectiveness. In case a player missed the wording. White neutral, red Super effective, blue resisted
Do you have a video that shows how to choose the right Pokémon to build? That whole process of choosing, investing, and deciding which league to use it?
Let’s go Dan!
Or die trying🤣 This is a Fantastic Vid!
wow im a legend player, but i never noticed that the color of the shield is different if it blocks a super effective/resisted move
haha thats crazy to me, ive known since i was awful at the game but i knew my types from the main series
@@givemeyourarms i always know that a blocked move is super effective or not, so i didnt pay attention
@@vszly same, I also realise it now
I play more for the fun
I am using (in great)
Alola marowak
-fire spin
-bone Club
-shadow ball.
Stoutland
-ice fang
-wild Charge
-crunch
Kingdra, (Mine does count as a dragon type, so not afraid of the electric type)
-Waterfall
-Octazooka
-blizzard
and whit this team i have ca. 50/50 win rate.
Me too. I do a few battles once in awhile just to have fun because getting rank 20 you aren’t even guaranteed a legandary Pokémon. If you we’re guaranteed one I would definitely try and get rank 20
Great video dax, how is Steph these days?
It’s a long road for Steph…. A lot for him to get used too. But he has an amazing team a d lots of support to help him along.
@@pokemama9317 that's great
Danottawa really good at team building 👍👍
Way to spoil it...geeeze
thanks pokedaxi and danottawa for showing us how to be the best at pvp like no one ever was!
To catch them is my real test......
Dan Ottawa isn’t even the best at PvP. The players in the championship tourney are the best
I remember when I predicted this video In your chat daxi 😂
This is simultaneously just like and completely different from regular competitive Pokémon
