I met the singer Glen Benton years ago outside a local venue before their show. He was a cool dude. He took the time to talk to us and what not. He mentioned how he would get praise from racist assholes thinking he was a white supremacist. To paraphrase him, He said he would think to himself, "I'm Italian, WTF?".

Hard to believe this is 30 years old already.
The name is actually pronounced “dee-ah-side” which means to kill a god. Also LOL at the uneducated twit in the live mislabeling them as deathcore(yes imma be that guy, bite me lol)..this is pure Death Metal, there is a distinct difference. Deicide are one of the earliest bands to come from the 90’s Florida scene that basically created the sound of the Death Metal genre. Bands such as Death, Obituary, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse(who were from Buffalo NY but went to Florida bcos that’s where the scene was), etc. To be honest I’ve never paid enough attention to whether Glen used vocal effects on this song but it’s likely as pitchshifters are very common in some forms of extreme metal such as Goregrind, but I digress. Their whole gimmick was being very Anti Religious/Satanic so the vocals were to scare ppl and sound like a demon. They also used to throw animal guts into the crowd in the very early days but venues stopped booking them so they didn’t do it for long lol. More Death Metal to react to(ill try to make it a short list lol)

Glen didn't use effects, he overdubbed high screams over his own death grunts, I mean he probably used delay and reverb but no pitch shifting

He did actually use effects on the vocals on this album, & some people criticized it so they stopped doing it. That's how I remember it from back in the day anyway
He couldn't help but nod to Steve's solid rhythm drum sections. This music has everything the world will never be ready for, the song is 30 years old and still amazing.

There is a harmonizer on Glens vocals. This adds to the Evil Dead vibe which is what the song is about
Love everything about this song. How the background vocals mimic "evil" flying through the woods like how the movie portrays. His unconventional high screams that have more grit than they deserve and the raw power from his growls.
No SFX, thats just how they sound.

I was first introduced to Deicide and this song on the infamous Roadrunner compilation "At Deaths Door". I still have the cassette!
I saw Deicide live on my birthday several years ago, and was able to meet and greet with Glen and Steve before the show. Best birthday ever. I have been a fan of theirs since the early 90's
I drank jagermeister with him before a show, about 20 years ago. I have no idea how he managed to play his bass and sing, considering how hard he was pounding those drinks. 20 minutes I counted 11 of them that he drank, imagine how strong is tolerance must be.

1st Dude: Thx you for being interested in Metal at all. Let me explain the Song: It is a "tribute" to the 80s supreme horror movie "Evil Dead". On this 1st Deicide Album Glen used 2 vocal tracks, 1 high, one low. In addition the "Evil Dead Sound FX" were added, and so the insane vox on the record and especially in this song were created. The singer's Glen Benton. Dude thought he's devil reincarnated and branded an upside down cross on his forehead and planned to kill himself when he turned 33 years old. He's 50+ now and still making music so guess he scratched that plan atleast.

Check out Zero Signal by Fear Factory. It's from the old Mortal Kombat movie. It's an oldie but a goodie if you want something a little heavier than standard metal but still listenable. Deicide is a shock to the system for anyone bruh lol

I came home from school one day and my 3 deicide albums were cracked up with a big pile of black film or whatever it is inside of a cassette in a big pile on the kitchen table.
I was like 15 or 16 years old a good kid with religious/ pillar of the community parents. If they find your metal stash it's bad but deicide was the worst case scenario.
You do not want your parents to look into that stuff. My parents were on the verge of dragging me to the church for real.
