"Matador" makes Hispanic American historical mention: it tells the story of a man nicknamed "the matador" (a guerrilla, in the video played by the actor Eusebio Poncela), who hides in a boarding house while the police prepare a final assault to kill him. The lyrics recall the Chilean singer-songwriter Víctor Jara.
They have recorded a song called "Vasos y Besos" in 1988 with Celia Cruz
Also a song by The Beatles "Strawberry Fields Forever" with Debbie Harry (Blondie) in 1995 and in that same year they played live in NYC at Palladium and went on stage to sing with them
In 1996 they recorded "Charlie Don't Surf" for an album tribute to The Clash and a version of "What's New Pussycat?" By Tom Jones with the American ska band Fishbone.
In 1997, the Cadillacs recorded the album Fabulosos calavera, Rubén Blades contributes vocals in "Hoy lloré canción" and Mimí Maura in "Calaveras y diablitos".

My words kill...we argentinians do know what this is about, nothing to do with drugs. It´s about giving your life to defend your ideas... in times of dictators. It´s an anthem to freedom. The pigeon is the symbol of freedom.

Believe me D, for us Argentinians, and for all Latinamericans in the matter , we know PERFECTLY what's this video about.
First: "Matador" is a word with different meanings, Only in Spain it means "bull fighter" but in latin america it means "Killer" or "murderer", second: This song is a protest song, the song narrates the story of a revolutionary (known as "El Matador") who is being hunted down by pro-dictatorship law enforcement agents. As it was common between the years 1976-1983 in Argentina.
Third: Those jewels in the underwear represent the Murga/Carnival wich is the main beat of the song.

Dear D, this song was an anthem for Latinamerica. It was based on the dictatorships that we had in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Brazil, etc during the 70's and 80's.
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs are a real great band with a lot of hits wothy of being reacted. This song "Matador" was highly awarded.
Other song from The Fabulosos are Mal Bicho, El satánico Dr Cadillac, Vasos Vacíos (ft. Celia Cruz) or Vos sabés.
Argentina has a lot of great bands.
    Regards from Chile 🙂

its a song about a revolutionary man who fought the system. But instead of carrying a gun, he used his voice to rally the people. The song references a chilean musician Victor Jara that was murdered by the Military Coup d'tat in chile during the 70s. Basically they would rally any singer, poet, anyone who used their words for the political message against the Fascist regime.

Dear D, this musical theme alludes to Latin American dictatorships, representing the persecution and death of an imaginary revolutionary who fought against them.
As for its genre, it is a mix of ska, Latin American rock and Afro-Brazilian rhythms. The video represents a funeral with well-marked cultural features for certain parts of Latin America.
The person they are carrying in the funeral car is Manuel Santillan "the lion", an imaginary character from another song by the group and a predecessor of this one. Due to what the song represents, it has become a Latin American anthem, and the character it mentions was associated with several Latin American liberators such as Víctor Jara, Chilean singer-songwriter, who is even mentioned in the song.
In another order of things, I leave you a link to a gem that I found on you tube and that will help you understand a little more about an iconic band from Argentina, Seru Giran, formed by Charly Garcia:

A big hug and thank you for your continued reactions and dissemination of the music of my country!

This type of music obviously mixed with rock, but the other part is music that we inherited from the Afros who came to Argentina back in the late 1800s, we call it candombe, which I mean that despite the time it is still valid. Thanks for appreciating it. The blood is because the song is called Matador = Bullfighter

    Bullfighter
    They're looking for you, killer!
They call me the matador, I was born in Barracas
If we talk about killing my words kill
It was not long ago that León Santillán fell
And now I know that, at any moment, they are going to give it to me
    Da-da-da-oh
    Da-da-da-oh
    Where are you, killer?
    Da-da-da-oh
    Da-da-da-oh
They call me the matador, they are looking for me
In a cold pension I am waiting for you
Crouched in the darkest part of my room
Rifle in hand, I wait for my end
    Da-da-da-oh
    Da-da-da-oh
The gray hair is looking for you, matador (Pa-pa-pa-oh)
The gray hair lies to you, matador (Pa-pa-pa-oh)
    Hey, hey!
    Hey, hey!
    Killer, killer!
    Where are you killer?
    Killer, killer!
    Don't go, killer
    Killed-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
    Oh yeah!
    Killer, killer!
    Wind of freedom, combative blood
In the pockets of the people the old wound
Suddenly the day turns into night
Murmurs, runs and the knock on the door
    The police force arrived
    Da-da-da-oh
    Da-da-da-oh
Look brother what you ended up with (Pa-pa-pa-oh)
For fighting for a better world (Pa-pa-pa-oh)
    What do they sound like?
    They are bullets
    they reach me
    They catch me
    Resist
Victor Jara does not remain silent!
Matador, they are looking for you
(Matador, matador) Matador they are killing you
    Matador-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh yeah
    (Matador, matador) Brave matador
They call me the matador of the 100 Buenos Aires neighborhoods
I don't have to be afraid, my words are bullets
Bullets of peace, bullets of justice
I am the voice of those who were silenced without reason
For the mere fact of thinking differently, oh God!
Santa María de los Buenos Aires, if everything were better
    Killer, killer!
    If everything was better
    Killer, killer!
    Where are you going matador?
    Matador, oh yeah!
    Killer, killer!
