I don’t think this will put off traditional BMW customers, because it has become a trademark look. However, it may put off potential new customers. The big question is whether their strategy of using the same platform for petrol, diesel and electric cars will enable them to be competitive. At some point, I think they will have to optimise it for electric cars - as in the IX.

I’m kind of bummed it had a low range and an expensive price tag when I was looking for an EV in 2020…I considered it but purchased a Tesla Model 3 instead. Fun fact: the i3 is the first EV I ever drove and I was hooked after that. They were just too expensive for me when they first came out. The current styling of BMW turns me off. It’s just weird. I think they are trying to be futuristic but I’d prefer a future with he look of Tron and BMW is missing the mark. Methinks you should be criticizing and commenting on quality and dependability of these vehicles, rather than wasting your time trying to convince others to agree with your personal concept of ugliness/beauty. Beauty is not an absolute; it's an idea, an ideal, a concept, and yes, there are very popular "standards" for beauty, but they're not close to being absolute.
Agreed, many would consider the grills on many new vehicles, or the entire design of the vehicle, to be "ugly", but others with, let's say, less polarizing views, would consider these designs bold, or unique, or "trend-setting". One has only to look at the grills of the Lexus brand over the past number of years as one example. Or how about the "ugly" fake exhaust pipes of many of the recent Mercedes models -- although as a long time owner of multiple Mercedes I've come to truly appreciate these fake-pipes; I no longer need to spend a considerable amount of time cleaning them, I also don't need to replace them every 2-3 years because they've corroded through due to the exhaust gases.
Personally, I really like the bold distinctive look of the new Bimmers. With respect to the single Series 7 that I owned for only 7 months, and subsequent on-line reviews, I will suggest that BMW needs to pay more attention to the dependability aspect of their vehicles rather than the design.
    But I digress!
There are those who might consider the choice of Sam's chest-revealing shirt, on a popular website, raising funds for a very worthy cause to be, um, bold? sexy? manly? classy? lowbrow? tasteless? embarrassing? Well, I think you get the idea and I'll leave that open to your personal view. Personally, I'm jealous; Mother Nature, while spreading her genes, never saw fit to endow me with half the chest Sam has! I think I'm just plain old ugly. (No, I will NOT publish a jpeg of my torso for confirmation!)

You are actually wrong about the BMW EVs. Yes - the I3 was absolutely outlandish first but look at it now almost 10 years after introduction. It still looks futuristic compared to way newer cars and it is superior when it comes to ergonomics and simplicity. The “war chest” big BMW models are standing out - like it or hate it but you will certainly recognize them - in contrast to the often repetitive and blunt competitors.

That’s the same message being thrown out by Lexus. ‘We are sticking to our guns’. Bring on the ugly. Newsflash Toyota - that’s why I stopped with Lexus. I thought the BMW Bangle butt was as far as they would go but no, they decided to increase the ugliness and slap it on the front! The only way you’ll get me in one of either brands cars is on a dark night with a brown paper bag over my head. Truly awful.

You should never listen to “most people”. 😊. You might mean you listen to yourself, which is a direct matter.
3 & 5 Series are kept uncontroversial. The Quant check. Latest 5 is an example of this.
Other models go where the design language wants it to go. I can think of a number of brands where the design language was less than resolved.
The best shake up in design language starting from Bangle, and BMW are the beneficiary of this.
No brands age well, they are of the moment. I should add BMW get about as much design license as they want, and no one designs a vehicle to deliberately fail. Thats plainly ridiculous. They are all the better for the freedom they have, and we are rewarded with some very cool vehicles.
