I just want to say thank you for this! I woke up this morning to my kitchen light being out and after trying new bulbs decided on trying to change the ballast myself. With your help, i did it!

Thanks!! Great video - we just changed our garage ballast after watching. We decided to leave the wires at the original length just like you did because you never know what the future holds and you can already cut them later but you can't add to them. They tucked up neatly in the case. Yes - I subscribed.

Very helpful. Definitely took the stress out of the job. Agree with you on the LEDs. Just not worth the cost for the job at hand. If I were putting in a whole new fixture, LEDs might make sense, but $20 for the ballast based on how long I'm going to be here was the way to go.

I replaced my ballast and shorted out my circuit. I hooked up all the wires to the corresponding colors, made sure grounding wire was in place. I noticed the ballast was a little larger than the old one just like in this video, but the voltage and bulb type matched. My splices were good. Not sure what went wrong.

Many LEDs don’t even make it to 5 years, let alone 20. And yes those integrated LED fixtures are probably the worst idea ever, just a way for companies to steal your money! Fluorescent is more reliable, brighter and emits pleasing, glare-free light so definitely a good idea fixing the fluorescents in the closet.

Why would you trim up the wires so you don't have a lot of extra wire

Did you mean to ask why wouldn't you trim the wires instead of taping? I have the same question but noticed no one answered

Why did you leave the wires so long? Doesn't it make sense to trim them to a more manageable length?

I noticed the yellow wires are TWO together. The rest seems to be single wires.

I’m really tired of consumer products having all this “Gotcha” Engineering designed into them - 24 year LED warranty permanently attached to the hardware with only 5 year warranty. Has to be American made. We used to make superior products. Thanks for the video

Great video. However, I'm tempted to replace with a single, 800-lumen LED bulb.

      What? That’s a loss of over 4000 lumens assuming it’s a dual F40T12 or F32T8 fixture.
