It is obvious that the physician wrote his own prescription! That physician sounded like a spoiled, entitled child!
A physician CANNOT prescribe himself ever!
Untrue. Depends on the state laws. It is especially more lax when it comes to uncontrolled substances which this medication falls under. However, it is widely regarded as unethical to self prescribe. Also, a pharmacist tech has the right to refuse to fill a prescription for anyone for any qualified reason. However, the pharmacist does open themself up to a lawsuit if the prescription is actually valid and necessary.
The bigger problem here is that this physician is trying to use this medication off label when no conclusive evidence exists for its efficacy as a treatment. Very standard reason for a pharmacist to refuse.
and if it wasn't for my pharmacist, I would have been in a lot of trouble. My doctor wrote a prescription for the wrong dosage of heart medication.
Pharmacist can refuse to fill any med he wants to. Doc can go to a diff pharmacy.

It is called an pro auctore perscription. Quite common, as long it is not narcotics, it is usually approved. This was malaria medication, so the pharmacist was in the wrong.
I have been a Pharm D for 26 years. A pharmacist can refuse to fill any prescription . Pharmacists carry all liability when dispensing any medication. Not only is this physician wrong but he has a serious god complex he also lacks respect for fellow healthcare professionals.If this is a drug solely in clinical trials and not on the market and the man is not on the clinical trial list he cant have it. Pharmacists must follow regulations. By the way a Pharm D is a Doctor of Pharmacy and is the EXPERT with medications. This provider needs to educate himself. Acting inmature and attacking a professional at work only shows his ignorance.

it wasn't a trial drug. hydroxychloroquine is s well known very safe drug and thr only reason the pharmacist wouldn't prescribe it is because the government lied

I’ve been a PharmTech for 3 years now and I know for a fact that the physician is clearly in the wrong. All pharmacists have the right to refuse any medication, be controlled or non-controlled, cause the pharmacy is the only dispensing the medication not the doctors.

Okay. I wasn't sure which one was the Karen/Kyle in the beginning. As it went on, I found that the guy wanting the prescription is the Karen/Kyle.
If it is not an narcotic, the pharmacist has no reason to deny the pro auctore perscription. Sure, he can justify it in some legal section, but he will loose in court.

@@oshixxxx No, a pharmacist has the RIGHT to deny ANY prescription they don’t feel comfortable dispensing to a patient. It doesn’t matter if the medication is a narcotic or not, if the pharmacist doesn’t feel comfortable dispensing the medication then they can refuse to fill it. The doctor could take it to another pharmacy and they might be happy to fill it. It’s not a law for pharmacist to refuse certain medications, it’s just a right they are allowed to do it.
So no I’m not incorrect, take a look with Ozempic and Mounjaro. Patients are using it to loose weight when it was FDA approved for T2D. Insurances audit pharmacy’s if they are dispensing it off-label under the patients insurance to which the pharmacy loose money and could end up getting a fine or worst case scenario even sued. You believe what you want to believe but the pharmacist was in the right and the doctor can take his prescription to another pharmacy that will fill it for him.

This depends on country. In Finland it is legal, and it is not frowned upon. You cannot perscribe narcotics tho, for obvious reasons.
I have a dentist in my close family. Why pay almost 30€ for 40% vodka, when you can buy a litre of pure alcohol for 9€. Of course, the reason is to clean the equipment.

Usually pharmacists deny narcotics from pro auctore perscriptions. In this case, the pharmacist is wrong (i work in a pharmacy). I do not see the reason why he would deny this medication.

My brother completed pharmacy schooling but didn't get his license as he chose to go into another field.
What I do know is that a Pharmacist has to be licensed to dispense medications.
The Pharmacist can also refuse to fill a prescription if he/she believes there is something nefarious with the script or person presenting the script.
The doctor should know this and not have tried to pull "I'm a doctor" crap.

They can refuse your prescription but he's wrong and out of line to refuse to fill a prescription that there is no reason not to dispense, that's arrogance and an i know better than you attitude. It's not his right to decide that a prescription is not needed for any reason, he should be disciplined by being fired and taught a lesson in authority.
