You've got the rest set way to high. Lower it down and hug that table.

No doubt a rifle can be zeroed with one round, literally thousands of high power rifle competitors do it for each stage of competition. But here’s the rub for folks who are average marksmen , they cannot call their shots and thus do not know if bullet placement was subject to shooter error like poor trigger control, meaning an adjustment to sight would not produce a good zero. This is why shooting a five shot group better defines the zeroing need. Back some years ago in National Long Range Championships I brought a rifle to the 600 yard line that I had never shot. I put the rifle on my shooting stool and bore sighted it on the target then I adjusted the sight for bullet drop. My first sighter was an X which I called and thus I went for record, shooting a perfect score with 14 X’s. The point is yes you can zero from one shot but you must have a whole lot of knowledge and skill to do it. The average shooter absolutely can not do it. That shooter is much better sighting-in by shooting 5 rounds, triangulating those rounds to adjust placement sight and then shooting again to confirm.

I think the main issue with one shot zero the way I did it is, not being able to hold the rifle steady when adjusting the turrets

I'm not a competition shooter but I normally do not fire 5 shot groups. Some 3 shot groups but mostly 2 shots. I am far more accurate with just two shots and am able to get much better results with less ammo to reload. When I do fire 5 shot groups I get a wider group. It's not the rifle it's me, especially if I'm sighting a rifle with some recoil or one with a stiffer trigger.

I am far from a expert but I do quite a bit of shooting. Whenever I see a target like yours I cringe. Try a target with a very well defined cross on it to help aline the crosshairs. Shoot at least one shot at your rifles short range sight in, adjust and then shoot at the longer range you have chosen. If you don't know what short range sight in is look it up.

I agree not the ideal target, was working with what I had at the moment. As for sighting it in, I normally do a short range first to get it in paper. But this was just an experiment that I wanted to try.

What was the range. I mean distance, not location.🤔
