The title made me cringe and then I kept on cringing the entire video. I wasn’t expecting the crash there but the reality is just about anywhere on Sonoma can be treacherous. Kudos for sharing and hope the damage is minimal. Glad you’re okay!
Hey, you have a really nice car, and i'm sure its no big deal ! Brave of you to upload such an irritating moment, thanks for sharing that, its always informative ! Good luck and wish you the best :)
Sorry about the fender bender. I love tracking in the rain. First off, you pretty much had the track to yourself. You have to be so smooth with steering, throttle and braking that any mistakes are highlighted. Fix it and get back out there.
why? why?..... You must have known that the chances to crash was almost 100% in rain in Sonoma..... This track is already messed up and difficult with low grip even when dry, and you still did it in rain with almost zero grip? Well, That said, it was a good run until that point.
Having too much fun leads to stupid decisions some times. With that said, to learn where the limit is, there's a need to go over it - I just shouldn't have done it so soon. New track, new car, and changing conditions throughout the day which made leaning the lines difficult.
@@racetracksetup Sure, I understand. I do this all the time myself. But, learn/risk the limit when the track is dry with such nice cars. It behaves much more predictable as I am sure you know.
If this was the Saturday 11th Feb, I also had some very scary moment in the first session in gold. One was through the esses and my passenger was my only witness (cameras weren't set up fully at that point). I opted not to go out for the next session.
What tires were you running? I've watched the series of the videos a few times now, looking at your tire pressures you were unable to get any temperature into them
Seems like you have some pretty big balls and no fear.. First track day @ Sonoma AND in the WET. From your video, it looks like you are putting the car on the limit the entire lap.. the limit of traction. Throttle and brake inputs way too abrupt, causing you to lose the car's balance throughout the lap. 0:59 You take the corner fine. 3:23 You make it through the corner, but you don't let the car track out smoothly. On the exit, you mash the throttle while driving through a puddle (steering not pointed where you want to go). Low grip surface + too much steering + too much gas => oversteer. When you lose the rear, you react by lifting the throttle really fast, counter-steering too far and tapping the brakes.

Yes, I shouldn't have been pushing so hard on my first visit to the track in a car I'm unfamiliar with. Lesson learned.
Sounds like your friend distracted you, then you didn't catch it fast enough
Sonoma is a byatch in the wet. Best to stay a half car width off the dry line and do not touch paint... avoid the curbs like the plague.

Thanks for the kind words!

If you had a real race car it wouldn’t have wrecked.
Driving the dry line in the wet.

Hi Pierre, this was the weekend before.

Godspeed

Indeed the lack of focus from being distracted led to a series of mistakes in a short span of time.
AND traction control off. Insanity.
I think with a little less countersteer input the car would have almost cleared the tires. Nice fast reaction though could have been worse.
Way to fast for those conditions.
An experienced driver could have save that. Try sim racing before tracking. It looks like the traction control off? Why on a wet track?
Wayy to fast.
