If you find time when you go to Fargo you should try and visit the Moorhead Boat Museum. Robert Asp, in 1972 decided to build a Viking ship replica. All by himself he cut down 100+ oak trees, milled them and over the next 7 years built the ship. After he captained it's maiden test voyage on Lake Superior, he died of leukemia, but his 3 sons and daughter carried on the project. In 1982, they. along with a total crew of 13 sailed the ship from Duluth MN to Bergen then Oslo Norway. The museum also contains a replica, Medieval Norwegian stave church. Another feat of amazing craftsmanship.
I live in a California coastal county. It is not abnormal to get more heat on the coast in October and that is what is happening now although temperatures are higher and patterns get more stuck. It could be really dangerous fire wise but there is almost no wind - I don’t know if it is my imagination but there seems to be less wind than in the past. It is suppose to get to 105F today and 103F tomorrow - average temperature in October here is 76F.
I wish you could clear away everything on social media as well. All of it. Gone!! 👏 Octobers certainly have become very dry since 1968. That's how I recall the majority of them being. Mild and dry.
Once upon a time strong winds meant rain was on the way. That is no longer the case. Wind is howling out of the NE today, drying out already incredibly dry ground. Have I said how much it sucks to live in SE Kansas?
Ok Eric what will it take to get rid of this WPO? Pretty soon the whole Central US will be a desert. This is year after year it's dry. Never a wet signal at all. Just gets old same patterns year after year season after season.
I'm surprised how quiet and dry will be on the whole country of US for the next two weeks it doesn't happen that much specially for long period of time
What condition set up diablo winds in the north coast ca. el or al and the mgo faze and the gulf of alaska water temp? Off shore wind very low rh. height presser close to coastal mt. lam a retired pear grower in Ukiah ca I have seen these conditions but l can't make sense of them, common in mid october.
Hang on folks Sucks right now and looks bleak but we have a brand new pattern to unfold going into October and we could break out of this later in October and November to turn it around before winter sets in
I hope you're right, and you've obviously dug into this more than me, but it's pretty tough to have hope right now. Tell me this, is what is coming in the next few weeks what happened the fall of '12? Because the rain DID finally come the beginning of November and the next few years were great.
Hard telling right now! The new pattern isnt fully engaged until 10/7 or so, so we need to see how the week 2 starts to look One thing i will loosley predict is the WPO pattern will change and thats BADLY needed to inspire the atmospheric changed we need in central plains
thanks for the update, have a good trip to Fargo!!!!!!!
Thank you, Eric!

Thanks again for a precise and honest forecast. Here in mountains of VA will it ever stop raining and let the fall colors come out haha.

Seems like Kansas is habitable for only ten years a century lol
I smelled the wildfire from Northern Indiana last night

The Midwest desert is coming back. IMO it’s the natural state of the southern Midwest
The color codes for the RTMA and the Nullschool wind strength, safe to assume the categories for wind speed that they represent are similar?

South America has changed the landscape burning out the trees. Your map almost mirrors the change.
