  • Inspired by Mr Ken Wyatt's trilogy of troubleshooting books, I made this video to unveil my essential EMI troubleshooting kits in a Peli case.
Ken's books can be purchased from www.amazon.com/stores/Kenneth...
Most of the equipment can be purchased from telonic.co.uk/ in the UK.

Awesome video ... very well presented for everyone (even non-EMC engineers) to follow

Thanks for the mentions and glad the book is helpful! Curious to learn more about your static meter.

Hi Ken, thanks. I found the books extremely useful, I only started collecting my kits when I read your book, now my workspace is piled up! The static meter I used was ACL MODEL 300B, I think I have seen this from Doug Smith's article/video, then I bought one from ebay for less than 100 USD at the time.

@@MachOneDesignEMC just found one on eBay, as well. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the show and tell!
The OnFilter Power Line EMI Adapter looks interesting, but couldn't find a price online so probably more than I want to spend. I already have a few LISNs (TekBox of course) and rarely need to take my gear out of the lab, so unless I start doing some power line comms work I probably cannot justify or really need one. I could always hack together my own (with lower performance of course).

Hi Kean, yes, you are absolutely right. I don't use the EMI adapter as often as I hope, because I found that above 10s of MHz, the long lead start to couple common mode noise from the ambient, for low frequency conducted noise, it is useful, but as you said, LISN and current probes are good as well. The price of the EMI updater is about 800 USD if I can remember, so not cheap!

Thanks a lot! Amazing video describing your kit. The OnFilter Power Line EMI Adapter looks marvelous, I should give it a try. BTW, do you have any video describing suitable antennas for radiated emissions below 10 MHz? I will buy those books too.

    Really nice EMC KIT

Thanks for sharing this, very interesting. I know it's not so portable, but I find my EFT generator to be one of the most useful bits of kits for testing products, causing the product to crash in a reproducible way in front of the engineers is a great way to getting it fixed quicker. I also find an ESD simulator to be very useful (and lots of those are quite portable).

Absolutely, I cannot agree with you more. I have two keytek ESD guns, extremely useful for troubleshooting immunity issues. You can also make "quasi-high-pass" or "quasi-low-pass" filter so that you can either inject the noise as a slow pulse or sharp pulse. For the EFT, check this www.langer-emv.de/en/product/immunity-development-system/68/e1-set-immunity-development-system/54/sgz-21-burst-generator/55, and this www.langer-emv.de/en/category/mini-burst-field-generators/13 I once saw someone selling this on ebay for 1000 USD, still too expensive for me!

Many of the equipment introduced here can be replaced by simple kits such as an AM radio, which costs less than 10 USD if you buy from ebay. Maybe next time I will do a low-budget kits version.
