I sold yoga spandex to Charles Thompson (Frank Black) lead singer of the Pixies about eight months ago at the sporting goods store I work at. He was very kind and humble and I was completely starstruck. I told him I was a fan and he responded with "well today I'm just a fat guy buying yoga clothes!" 😂. A moment I won't soon forget.
Thats a great observation, not to mention all the little songs he constantly comes up with from the legendary "ME! WALKING DOWN THE STREET!" song to all the little ones for TigerBelly intros & the Ipad song collection. Bobo is very musical!
Vermont Bouldering yea was gonna say, these people ain’t Bobby lee fans if they didn’t know he was in a band, these literally a video on RUclips of him performing with his band.
Pixies are one of those bands where every single song is good to me. They are my absolute favorite and I can say with like 85% certainty that I have the lyrics to every song ingrained in my mind. You just can’t beat them.
@@henrybemis3439 I saw them live in Tulsa in 2010. I was in the 4th row right in front of Joey. They played the entire Doolittle album start to finish + some b-sides. Best concert ever.
words cannot describe how comforting it feels hearing that us misophoniacs aren't alone. I know they were laughing and it was a light hearted conversation, but we are.. literally living in agony every day. for me, my own chewing also triggers me, so I have to watch something/ listen to music with the volume blaring for every. single. meal. I am in constant fight or flight, on edge waiting to hear a trigger. I am 19 and I've suffered since age 6. if you're reading this & you have it, I highly recommend joining a misophonia support group, there are several on FB with 40,000+ members.
I once watched the pixies in concert and was kinda bummed since Frank didn't seem into it. Half way through the set this guy starts living up the stage and getting the crowd into it. Thanks for that Joey!
I've seen em a few times and yeah, that's just Charles. He always seems that way. Last song is over. "Thanks, bye" that's it. Dude, hes been doing this since the 80s. I get it.
I seriously love the musician episodes/talk on here. Joey was a great guest, but you can really see how much Bobby enjoys talking about music. Would be cool to see this be a thing more often
For a huge Pixies fan, this was a surprise and a treat, thanks guys!!! Also I was obsessed too Bobby. This first band I played in, was basically a pixies cover band. My first tattoo was the flying “P” done with a homemade gun, cost me a joint. And without realizing, my guitar playing is heavily influenced by Joey. Love them so much!
Omg! As an OG Pixies fan since 1989, I was mortified for Bobby when Kalayla said Bobby didn't go to the Pixies show because Kim was not playin!!! I gasped!!!! I was like, oh no!!!!!! Now I can't stop laughing. I felt for you Bobby! I was at the Dodger Stadium show with The Cure, The Pixies and Love and Rocket. I had just graduated high school!
I had the pleasure of meeting Joey, Dave, Frank and Paz last year here in Dublin city. They were super nice especially Francis and Joey, got a picture with them and a record signed! Also great podcast guys, I've watched 3 full episodes today alone.
Saw the Pixies a few years back in San Jose the crowd was kinda dead so me and my friend started dancing and got people moving. One dude told us there needs to be more people like us at shows. A few months later that same friend passed from an overdose and I always think back to that night and how much fun we had. Epic guest Tigerbelly!
I just finished watching this interview. Loved it. Already had great respect for Santiago, but now even more. I love his sense of humor, his stories, everything. Thank you!
Wow Joey, the most inspiring, extensively fresh & one of few true musical artists on the planet for decades! Such an absolute fkn next level band it's unreal!
@Wus Poppin Mayne 60 million records sold, influenced radiohead, smashing pumpkins, nirvana, pearl jam, etc. david bowie called them the most compelling music from the 80s. are you joking?
I genuinely feel bad for Joey with his sound phobia (the chewing thing) as someone who once struggled with intrusive thoughts and irrational fears and felt like I was losing my mind my heart seriously goes out to him. I would recommend meditation, therapy, maybe counting to ten when you're stressed out. There's all sorts of coping mechanisms out there. Things like that can get in your head and bother you for a long time but you can get past them and when you do you realize it was never a big deal and you're free. Good luck bro.
I found (the) Pixies through the Pump up the Volume soundtrack and went immediately down the rabbit hole and since had most absolute admiration for this band.
This has been the funniest episode of all time ! I’ve loved it and THE PIXIES kick ass! Been one of my favorites for half of my life.I saw them a couple years ago and it was amazing!
I was about 10 in the late 90s/early 2000s when I was introduced to Pixies by my two much older brothers. I'll never forget when I heard Break my body for the first time. Man, what a fucking feeling.
Bobby's looking healthy man. Love you guys. Omfg I just realized by the way that I didn't know I know and love(THE ) Pixies! Wtf. Where is my mind ....... It's brought me to tears.
If you want to understand the heart of the Pixies: 1:08:30 this is what they're about, he just wanted to show Bobby, "hey look, kind a cool, our own masks"... Bobby nicely trys to promote as merch... Joey, "I wasn't promoting it, it's cool, people find it they find it..." that's the Pixies... we make cool shit... if you find it you find it.
When I was a kid, a very young teen, I was a huge fan of Nirvana. I read an article where Kurt Cobain mentioned Pixies as one of his influences or favorite bands, so I picked up Doolittle and Surfer Rosa. Amazing music. Just stupid original and so extremely unique and creative it blew me away. Been a fan ever since. I love those guys!
I have… wish I didn’t. It’s amazing that they have released now 5 post reunion albums, same as their original output, and none of it is any good or even close to being as creative or impressive.
I swear I've been driving around for like 2 hours with "Lovely Day" running through my head on repeat. This is about the most unexpected cool surprise I've seen in a long ass time, niiiice!
One of my favorite musicians ever. And as a person of Filipino descent, id always tell people he was my uncle when i was a wee lad. I was obviously lying, but a totally normal thing to do when you're like; nine years old and listening to Doolittle for the first time.
Bobby as a comedian is hilarious. Bobby as a person is magical. His giggle unlocks and disarms people, and he makes himself laugh and just brings people along with him it's great. Love this podcast forever
Joey is a completely underrated guitarist. I think he's so underrated because he's so unique and hard to imitate. I could never play like him in a million years, he's got such a distinct style. I know Kim gets a lot of love but I think Charles and Joey are the Pixies, you can replace the drummer, you can replace the bass but you can't replace Charles' song writing, lyrics, subject matter etc and you can't replace Joey's "sonics" that he puts over Charle's songs.
wasn’t familiar with joey santiago previously but after this pod i’m definitely a new fan. same easy chemistry as the bisping ep...thank you slept king and queen!
Man you act like bobby didn't bring up the "heat" first. Khalyla wouldn't have said anything about heat if not for bobby. Y'all khalyla hating incels NEED to get laid ASAP.
My grandma's misophonia was so bad. She would get nausea by the sound of people eating and especially when someone chews gum. One time my uncle blew bubble gum right in front of her and she vomited.
On the hound issue, as I see it, ultimately this individual saw something that awakened his fears. Now he his fears facing him in his dreams and in the mirror. What those fears are, I can not know, but they are there for him to face to stand against, to embrace, and/or understand. In a way, many of us do not have this gift. May his quest of discovering this gift leave the world a better place.

Tigerbelly still has the best camera setup of any podcast.
I couldn’t stand it the first time I watched the podcast years ago and after the first episode I realized it’s the best way to possibly do it.
probably thanks to George
PD is great at his job.
I don't like the bottom left. Rather it swap between Gilbert or just not be there.
Agreed, this is the DVDASA setup all the way. I miss that podcast.
Bobby’s secret dream was being a musician tbh the dude clearly LOVES music and gets very flustered when around a musical legend. Very cool
Thats a great observation, not to mention all the little songs he constantly comes up with from the legendary "ME! WALKING DOWN THE STREET!" song to all the little ones for TigerBelly intros & the Ipad song collection. Bobo is very musical!

Such a good band. Back in high school in the 90s. Omg, I loved these people

man bobby lee being an alternative/indie rock fan makes me love him even more. I hope he likes slowdive too.
