In the 7th century, Mohammed, Peace Be Upon Him, is visited by Angel Gabriel who urges him to lead the people of Mecca and worship God. But they're exiled in Medina before returning to Mecca to take up arms against their oppressors and liberate their city in the name of God (Allah).

In Memory of Anthony Quinn. He died in 2001 at age 86 and this was one of his top Hollywood films like Omar Mukhtar playing the role of the Libyan leader fighting against Italian occupation under Mussoulini and was also directed by Mr. Akkad. He did play in Lawrence of Arabia as head of Hashemite tribe in 1962 along side Alec Guiness from Star Wars who plays King Faisal, Omar Sharif-the famous Egyptian actor played another warrior, and Peter O'Tool as T.E. Lawrence fighting against Ottoman Turks.

one of the movie never becomes "old" and stay "fresh" at all times....the biggest reasons are, Arabs are still dressing the same way....deserts are still deserts and similar sort living environment still exist...

I remember this film very well, having seen it when just out of high school and during a period when I was infatuated with Baha'iism and the silly notion of the "Oneness of Religions." The film impressed me and my friends very much. (We had received a Christian Brothers education, which is to say, not a Catholic education at all.) But then, I went on to study the Qur'an and the real history of Islam, as well as the Bible (which I had never taken very seriously) and the history of the Early Church. That rid me forever of the belief that Mohamed and Jesus spoke of, to and for the same God.
Seeing the film was also my first real experience of Muslim fanaticism. Some enraged Muslim accosted the audience as we were leaving the theater, screaming something about blasphemy and how the film maker should be put to death!
The truth shall be spread one day whether they liked it or not. We are passengers in this life and all of us will go the next life and hopefully to paradise inshallah

I've always heard that portraying Prophet Muhammad visually is prohibited according to Islamic rules. If there any muslims here, I would like to know your thoughts about this concept and the movie.
They neither portrayed prophet Muhammad ﷺ nor his major companions like Abu Bakr, Omar, Ali or Othman (r.a) in the movie. I've watched it, truly a Masterpiece

I lost my faith the more I read the Quran. I do however, love this movie. I did feel sad though when i saw this movie, because I do wish the messages in this film were practised among the Muslims today.

i saw this film when I was very young. about 6, 7 , 8? i cant recall but i watched it with my family, me dad me mum, me younger brother & me newly-born third youngest brother. oops i think i saw in 1980. i cant remember which Singaporean cinema. i was born in 1973. so 7 years old then and until now it is still one of my very favorite film. loved the films' way of direction of not portraying the beloved prophet Muhammad s.a.w. (p.b.u.h). loved the score too.
