- 1440P GAMING WITHOUT A GPU?! In this video we test out 1440P gaming on an overclocked radeon 780M iGPU in the new Ryzen 7 8700G! Running the 780M at 3200MHz was pretty easy but fast ram is really going to help out so we added 32GB of CL36 Viper venom DDR5 @ 7600MHz.

1080P all day. Or a light 1440p machine, from an APU... Solid effort.
1080p is a peasant resolution
@@UmVtCg 1440p is wanna be 4k
4K in an APU works since Ryzen with Vega for pre PS4 games...
@UmVtCg 1080p is still perfectly fine, especially at high settings, maybe be less of an asshole. Not everyone wants a 4k monitor that's half the price of the system they're using it with, aside from TVs I've literally never seen a 4k panel in person, and only just recently got to 1440p.
Edit to add: also, lol, tell that to Ngreedia with their 4060s targeting 1080p, it's very much still relevant.
@@JoeHoeDoesSomething 4k is mostly pointless. 1260p viewed at the optimal of higher distance for the screen size is when you can't tell the difference between and for people with better than 20/20 eyesight it's 1440p. 4k is good for professional work or for people that glue their faces to the screens.
Honestly, 780m would have been a game changer if it came in 8600g. as it stands you can buy a ryzen 7600 and a rx 6600 for the price of a 8700g, and get a MUCH higher gaming performance. could even fit in a case not much bigger than the one in the video too.
You are right.

AMD Ryzen 7 8700G is a bad buy, no doubt.
if you can fit a gpu in your pc not buy the g-series but it its too tiny for a gpu buy the gseries, for budget use a ryzen 5 5500 or 5 5600g and rx6700xt its worth it :D
i played with my 5600g and rx6700xt ps5 ports in high settings 1440p 165fps and with fsr on 200fps but gpu gets hot with it in my itx case so native 165 is better vor thermals ;D
ah ... i use arch btw. 🤣🤣🤣
Pots from cyberpunk will always suffer from your wrath
GTAV @ 1440p on high settings with 80fps on an igpu. that's actually insane
Can we have some benchmarks with this oc at 1080p pls?
First off, didn't know you can do any overclocking on an Ax20 motherboard. Thought that was only reserved for Bx50 and Xx70 motherboards. Good to know this.
You probably can't overclock the CPU, but the GPU isn't subject to the same restrictions.
you can oc at A boards but not theat much high as at a B or X board and you have lass powerstages so you cant really oc a ryzen 9 but you can perfect oc a ryzen 5 and 7 and a gpu like the 4060 too
Why 1440p with fsr performance. No one is going to play like that. Just go for 1080p with fsr quality
I would definitely prefer 1440p performance over 1080p if I'm on a native 1440p display. Not having the screen scale it gives a much clearer picture. And upscaling artifacts are so much worse at 1080p than at 1440p that it almost makes up for the lower quality setting.
More clickable title,
you're correct 1080 makes more sense,
but remember that his real job is to get clicks.
I would, 1080p is a peasant resolution. I've discarded my 1080p screens a decade ago.
1080p is just not enough data for fsr or dlss 1080 p native low is better
Also, pushing the envelope is the only way to truly test hardware. It's amazing to see where AMD is now.
"Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is only possible on the power of the PS5" they said
this past generation of consoles was a scam, from both sony and microsoft
@@easymoney480 just this past gen? what about the cell processor or the emotion engine that according to $ony and neofag were something from an alien world that was harder to reproduce.
that was bull too. the ps2 and ps3 emulation would have a word with these false claims.
they also said that the ps4 chip was the best ever. which was another lie since its an AMD laptop variant lmao
after the ps4 i jumped chip to PC ( i still have my ps3, ps4 and vita in the closet somewhere) but PC gaming is unbeatable. i can play my games both old an new with a 1660 ti at 120 fps or so something that you cant do on a ps5 and i'm currently typing from a 9th gen pc

@@polarvortex6601 marketing aside, the Cell processor was really on a different scale.
There are still research projects today which are run on a bunch of ps3s with Linux on them because some of the characteristics of the Cell processor make it still faster than modern processors for specific tasks.

Small case! Impressive! 👍
This is phenomenal
I find 1080p to be great pretty much all the time. Anything above that is a luxury to me.
Yeah 1140p is so overkill
That 45°. Damn.
My legion go hits 70 degrees at max. Shuts off at 100 degrees. Room for overclocking in my eyes 😂
1440p "with upscaling" IS NOT 1440p. Also, be aware that the more Radeon GPUs are overloaded, the longer it will take for each frame to upscale, so in many cases, you'll get higher frame rates at 1080p with FSR Quality than you will from 1440p with FSR Performance.
Great vid! Would love to see a similar video on the Minisforum HN2673 with an overclocked A730 after all the work intel has done withe all the game drivers. That is a great value 1440p mini PC at $600!
Thanks for video. Have or can you do an emulation video on the radxa 2 please. Keep the videos coming, you are a video workhorse !
Great video. Tekken 8 is probably the best looking fighting game right now and you should be including it in your benchmarks. It's a Unreal Engine 5 showcase.
I love seeing these iGPUs getting better and better. I want my next build to be PowerMac G4 Cube esque and push some acceptable gaming performance
Wait until later this year with Strix Point Halo (rumored of course).
They are useful to play games like valorent,League of legends and dota.
You're better off buying a cheaper chinese prebuilt mini pc ($400-600) than making this type of small pc build yourself ($800-900)
Don't listen to the idiots telling you "do this instead", wait like 6 months to a year when the zen 5 stuff is out, b650 boards will be cheap, and the 8700G will be in the 200s, you can definitely make a quality travel/steamlink machine with this chip, it's just a tad pricey right now.
@thetechrealist "you're better off buying this cheap Chinese laptop board that they've shoved into a desktop case and performs worse than the thing you actually want, even tho it's been proven that a lot of them ship with pre-installed malware." The idiocy of people into tech shit never ceases to amaze me.
These new APUs interest me. The last one I bought was an A10-7900k and I crossfired in a discreet 2nd GPU. This(or the 8700g) would be a really nice update for my home theater PC and I wouldn't have to break the bank to do it.
FYI my 8700G can go to 9000 in gear1(Yes MCLK at 4500), but the FCLK and UCLK seem to be locked at 2000 no matter what i did in my short testing.
I need to do some actual OCing as so far i've just ran XMP, but i would be surprized if the UCLK/FCLK are not as good as the 5700G, i'd be very dissapointed if they cant at least hit 2466Mhz like the 5700G as the 5700G is 7nm, and 8700G is '4nm'
Vase Merchant in Cyberpunk:
This guy's gonna break my stuff again in the name of TESTING! He does it to me from 720p up to 4K! The torment!
If you could check for IDLE power consumption at both software (CPUID/HWDInfo) and outlet level, it would be great.
Asking because it has been shared that this is a monolithic design (like the laptop ones) and whenever those reach desktop they tend to be great for home servers which tend to stay idling most of their uptime.
What would we do without you on RUclips one of the best channels
I have a Legion Go (which has the same RX 780M iGPU, the same 5.1GHz base clock but only a max power draw of 30 W holding it back somewhat) and while I am sort of a retro gamer my default is always to try the games first at the native 1600p before going down to 1200p or even 800p. So far I haven't had any problems hitting 60fps in Monster Hunter Rise, Burnout Paradise (that one I actually think I'm even running at max settings), while a game like Warframe I'd say is mostly fine at low to medium though due to very diverse loads it can dip at times. But it can in my RTX 3080 gaming rig too in certain places.
I have almost this exact set up. Went for the asrock B650 board instead. Plays MW3 at 1080p at around 75/80 fps no problem. I cut out the bottom of a box of granola bars and cover the pc when not in use. It’s seriously that small😂
I would love to see if these little iGPUs can handle some PC VR titles 👍
A caveat with that Freesync recommendation: Many of the cheap freesync displays have a garbage sync range like 50-144 hz which would make it worthless for this.
There is something called lfc or low framerate compensation, I don't understand how freesync would be worthless in this kind of apu lol
@@s0nVan Ah yes, that would be a good point if I hadn't specified "cheap freesync displays" like the MP in the video did.
Good luck expecting that software frame doubling to work on one of those cheap Spectre 75hz Freesync monitors when you dip into the 30 FPS range.
One could always fire up CRU and cross their fingers though.
The FSR is really noticeable around the character in Mortal Kombat
I'll buy this apu to run all my indie games and i personally think that this processor is pretty good with those AA titles and older AAA titles.
Nice video. Love the information. Would love to see you add some additional games to your testing. How about Hogwarts legacy?
This, and Spiderman please
Not that you can overclock the cpu on A620 but the good thing you did is not touching the cpu part so igpu will have more power and cooling
As someone who has a Z1E Ally, and who is looking to start using it in docked mode every so often, I wonder how much better the desktop variant of the 780m performs compared the the likes of the Ally in both performance and turbo mode, to see if it would be worth it to consider making a budget gaming pc with an 8700g, instead of just running the Ally in docked mode (or sticking with my 1650ti mobile laptop for another year or 2)
I would always enable fsr quality on games like cyberpunkt. Its just free performance, takes load off the gpu, and in some cases makes the image feel more "natural"
At Minute 4:27 it looks insane!!
It seems that AMD made sone optimization. The wattage is now only at 80-85. 1 Month ago it was at 90-110W.
8:45 Fressync will not make higher fps but it looks higher. For example Ratchet & Clank at 45fps is butter smooth. It feels much smoother than on RUclips.
so it improves frame times?
Nope, it syncs the gpus output frames with the monitor, if the monitor supports freesync ofc
Did you update your BIOS to stop the GPU from messing with STAPM as Gamers Nexus said? If not your leaving a lot of performance on the table. Great video showing what these bad boys can do. Thanks for doing it, no one else seems to care enough!
Also he can increase VRAM from 500mb to 2gb
To go even further maybe try the bios settings (forgot the name) to use ram as extra vram to get a bit more fps
The ram is the VRAM. That’s how APUs work. They use system RAM for VRAM.
@@NandR, you can reserve RAM exclusively for VRAM in some BIOS.
@@fernandocasillasjr With 32GB of RAM there is no real need to. At 1440P low settings most games aren't going to use more than 5-8GBs of VRAM and the CPU isn't going to use more than maybe 16GB. I've only seen a 1-3 FPS difference with that change.
@@NandR thanks
Here we go now, it was almost 10 years (2011 - 2021) waiting for 1080p on an iGPU, now the next threshold is AAA at 60 fps+ @ 1440p high on an iGPU !!
When they first started talking about these APUs there was a mention of Pro versions. I wonder how much better they will be .
The pro versions just have more security and can work with ecc ram if I am not mistaken.
Now I realize the purpose of these machines. You are never supposed to get a GPU upgrade. You get the faster APU as time goes on. The 9000 series APUs are looking craaaaazy.
Well it would've been nice to show the overclocking process in the bios
... am I dreaming? This is really impressive for an APU, I never thought I'd hear 1440p and APU in one sentence...
What is the max power draw from the wall when running overclocked?
Hope you updated the BIOS. And hope the cooling was good.
What motherboard this uses? I saw Gigabyte but not sure which model; don't you need a highend motherboard to use overclock ram? I just have a AM5 ASUS b650 plus wifi with 6000Mt/s 30 CL ddr5 but I have a dGPU 7800xt. So this iGPU is like a GTX 1650, I wonder what the newer iGPU next year will be like nice to see them improving to make video gaming affordable for the masses. Just so expensive plus you have buy these expensive games on top of it.
Gigabyte A620I AX
I'd be much more interested to see how well this rig does at high/maxed 1080p resolutions. Much more practical resolution in my opinion for an APU
New 880m iGPU will perform with average of 15 to 20% performance increase. That being said, the equivallent of the gtx 1070 power. With a good cooling, you'll be able to overclock that iGPU to 3500MHz ( max stock turbo will be 3100MHz i think ) and with 3500MHz there will be power equivallent to the gtx 1070 and i mean, solid 1070 performance and even a little bit more than that. Crazy 💀
Emulation?
Allocate more Vram and you can gain slightly more FPS if you have not done it, test have shown that it does work better than the auto vram scaling that is set by default
That's impressive stuff. Can the 780m be overclocked on the laptop version? I have the AMD 7840HS, 32gb DDR5 5600MHZ CL40 ram
I actually plan on getting this set up for my wife's computer and to be used in the fractal Terra case and my money is going to go towards 64 gigs of RAM that way 8-16 gigs can be dedicated to the GPU. And then at least a full 32gigs can always be dedicated to the system itself. Later probably pair it with a 7800xt
Need comparison with GTX 1650 d6 LP and RX 6400 LP
Wow 😮😮😮
I really want to see how the 8000s do with steam os!
ETA PRIME its just an opinion, can you test in that order:
1280p x 720p -> in low, mediun, high and user (as you prefer)
1920x1080 -> in low, mediun, high and user (as you prefer)
2560p x 1440 -> in low, mediun, high and user (as you prefer)
This way is longer for you to record, but we can get a precise score of performance.
So 1080p wouldnt be an issue for any game?
It already kinda wasn't, aside from some unoptimized cases like the starfields of the world you could already do 1080p low-mid.
Turn on Amd fluid motion frames, ull have a great time.
Any chance that you will test Helldivers 2 on the 780M ?
How is your temp just around 50? I get 80 C temp while playing AC Valhalla.
Could you throw this in a mini pc the size of something like the Beelink Ser6?

If wonder if one can use them iGPUs to light/medium games dev in Unreal Engine.
Didn’t surprise me if asus decided to use this chip on ROG ALLY 2
I've been having nothing but crashes with my 8700g. Driver timeouts, system hangs and everything in between. What graphics drivers are you using? Have you had many problems at all?
Is there 10k mhz ram ?
8:40 - By the way R&C Rift Apart on PS5 run max on 40fps (with better resolution and settings lol, but max 40fps cap)
Sorry, I'm new to this kind of stuff. When you everclock the ram and cpu on these types of mini PC's, can you still use the stock power supply or should you use one with more power? I have a Beelink SER7 and am interested in over clocking
I don't think Beelink SER7 can throw enough power at the 780M to overclock it. It certainly doesn't have enough cooling to deal with an overclock, either. This video shows a desktop setup with a desktop power supply and cooling which makes it possible.
The few extra Watts that an overclock will use should be easily provided by the stock supply. Standard engineering practice calls for at least a 25% margin under normal use, meaning a system expected to draw 100W should have a PSU of at least 125W. Due to commodity products like PSUs, you're likely to get a 150W PSU on that 100W system, giving you a LOT of headroom.
Also, they have to factor in max power for all attached devices. Plugging a USB hard drive into every USB port will draw a good bit of power, and that will cause them to bump up the PSU capacity. USB ports have to provide a minimum of around 5W per port, so if you have 6 USB ports, that's another 30W, so now you're looking at a 175W PSU for that hypothetical 100W tiny PC.
Bottom line: You *should* be good with the stock PSU. However, you can always monitor the power draw through something like a Kill-A-Watt. However, the AC input power will be a bit higher (typically 10-20%) than the rated output, so don't panic if you see the input power up around the rated output power.
Cred: I am an electrical engineer.
@@JamieStuff thank you.

I'd buy a 8700G in a heartbeat if it were under $150. Asking $330 for it is crazy tbh
It's worth at least 200, remember we're cutting cost of a whole graphics card
they made the 8500g for the poors
If it were 150 though then nobody would buy the 7600X or 7700X for $399 or whatever the price of those CPUs are - because the 8700G is almost as good as just a CPU as those are. AMD already didn't release the 7500F in the west because it was too good a CPU in terms of Price-to-Perf relative to the other Ryzen 7000 series CPUs...
give it a year for zen 5 and strix to drop. People be sleeping on these APUs, when zen 5/6 come out, these things are like, $200ish, and the b650 mobos are cheap, these will be great budget gaming machines.

That reminds me - how does the 7x0M series compare to the PS5 and Xbox Series? Both in terms of raw power and frames per dollar.
A bit less than PS4 Pro. But better in low res high frame rate than high res low frame rate due to mem bandwidth.
the ps5 and xbox series are much more powerful than this APU, those consoles are like having a dedicated 3060ti gpu machine.

can you show us how this mini pc performs with chimera os?
I've tried it and seems chimera is not ready at all for it (even the unstable branch). I have bad kernel gpu crashes in the logs. Completely fine on debian testing with git firmwares though.
Its amazing great and simply unbeatable in performance per watt (and performance per square inch). But once you throw efficiency and footprint out the window, shuffle the budget around get 56000x3d or even just a 5600 non x and couple it with an RX6600 then it will blow this away. When/if AMD price this at 199 and budget AM5 (60usd) are available then it will be the deal for everyone who is just starting to game on PC.

What about a video with the Ryzen 7700x OC
How you overclocking a A620?
PS5 Pro and PS6 should use 780m and 760m/740m in 4K. You're so right about this 780m iGPU launched on January 2023 laptops and mini-pcs...Or as Asus (and others) in Z1 Extreme from... good news in 2024 and 2025 AMD's gonna keep launching it in new products...
Nobody cares Adreno 750m at 1GHz (15W) is as fast as stock 780m or at 1.25GHz beats 780m 3.2GHz, at 24W. Equivalent Adreno 750m at PS5 perfromance will use from 45W to less than 90W depending on the clocks... versus 150W (250W) of actual PS5.
I'm so confused why you would choose to benchmark this at 1440p. People getting this area overwhelmingly going to be at 1080p, even if they have a 1440p monitor it's not really ideal in any situation to run this at any other resolution.
Nice to see GTA V ❤
You should retest with a REAL cooler, not in that enclosure, I recommend the ThermalRight Phantom Spirit 120. It gave me 6% more performance (5950x) over my top-ranked single-tower ID Cooling SE-224 (non-XT), and you might get 6% more fps from your rig ...
If you're not one of the 10 people who has to use a sff build, just get a cheaper cpu+ram and rx 6600 and you'll get way more fps for less money...
delid and repaste liquid metal, you can go higher.
1440 seems silly on something like this. Being required to use FSR perf on 1440p seems stupid. Why not 1080p with quality mode?

I said, that he should overclock the iGPU to 4ghz cuz the temp is good and to set the TDP to 120w@@Just_An_Ignacio
@@gamergasper9319 that's not how OC works. There are physical limits for a silicon you know. It's not about connecting your AC to a PC and get it to work at 10GHz if you don't reach 100°C...
And you can up the TDP to 1000W if you want in the BIOS or another program, but the CPU is gonna reach a voltage or an amperage limit and stop using more energy. I'd recomend you to search a little about how OC works because you are only writing nonsense to be honest.
@@Just_An_Ignacio how did someone overclock a cpu to 9ghz eh?
1080p as high as you can go to get 60fps
Just built my kid a pc with a 5500gt and it runs so lots of games off steam with no gpu.
Can anyone give me a name or link on the case?
😁😁😁👍👍👍
Is it possible to overclock ryzen 7840hs: has the same igpu? With what tools?
It's locked unfortunately as far as I know.
