      Have had a vl300 and extension bed for a while now. Had a VB36 before that and I sold it to strictly use Vicmarc products. Better for me all round

      I've owned a Vic 300 shortbed for 20 years. It is a great lathe. Never had an issue that I cannot resolve easily. Its not the prettiest lathe on the market but I would not own anything else.

    I am from Australia. Vicmarc make great lathes and chucks. It is expensive but it is the best. World renowned turners like Richard Raffin and Glenn Lucas use these lathes. Could be more endorsed...

    This thing does look awesome, and definitely cheaper than the American Beauty that Robust makes. Are there any benefits to it besides the cheaper price compared to the AB? Any downsides, in your opinion? The retro powder coated cast iron does look awesome too, not sure if I'd bank for that over an AB, but if they're practically identical and one is 1k cheaper, then this would definitely be a wise consideration.

      Its a fantastic lathe, I have had 3 vicmarcs and before those the VB36. I sold the VB and never looked back. For more vids and comments see "On The Turn" on Face book groups where you can see me making my hollow forms and other large projects

I hear you guys mention indexing on most of your lathe reviews. What is indexing on a lathe? Could yall do a video about it? Merry Christmas!

    great video, not to many reviews on these lathes, can you please do some more, esp. on the 100 /150 lathes and the accessories like the sharpening systems and their chucks.
    PS: for those out there in Australia, what you are looking at (above) costs $5,000-6,000 AUD ! - but because of the quality it is WORTH every cent of the price tag, especially since it came from our own country!!, support US, not the USA.

    • @kagnewmp12
      @kagnewmp12 4 года назад

      I sure hope you support our USA Firefighters that came to your country without question to help all of you fight the worst fires you've ever had and especially the two USA Firefighters that died there helping and supporting your country. I love Australia and even though my USA has it's problems there is no country on this planet that has helped other countries more than the USA.

    • @andyvan5692
      @andyvan5692 4 года назад +3

      @@kagnewmp12 sure do appreciate the combined efforts of all those who helped with the N.S.W. fires :-) . This comment only was meant to say that in general, one should endeavour to help ones own country in supporting their own industry, especially if the produce is good quality, as the JOBS of the country are at stake if and when their own businesses go under, as importing from others is the only other way, and this does nothing to solve the unemployment problems of a country.
      PS: I also have Autism, and didn't know this was a way of interpreting the comments, was just being Patriotic to my own country, as I am sure all nations citizens would be, when faced with these decisions, whether to buy from Jane next door, or from a country 1/2 a world away, would you send her kids into welfare, or into a JOB?

    I have had the VM 200 model for 22 years. I mean the lathe is bullet. None of the new features like on the 300. The tail stock and head stock line up perfect. I can only imagine what the 300 is like. I'd have to sell one of my Rolex's to own one.

    For some reason vicmarc's lathes look like they were built in the 70's. Dont get me wrong they are top notch lathes but i think they need to do a bit of R&D revising the look of it to make it look more modern.

    • @andyvan5692
      @andyvan5692 5 лет назад +4

      think it's a case of FUNCTION over form, would rather a tank that can stand up to the job, than a pritty model just for ones mantle piece!

      @@andyvan5692 True, but some redesign could be done to improve accessebility and user comfort, such as having to lift the heavy motor to change the belt without some lever.

      I get the critique, but at the end of the day, these are no nonsense, no compromise lathes. I bought a Laguna which is a very nice lathe, but it simply doesn’t have the presence of my buddy’s Vicmarc, not even close and it’s another thing altogether to see it in front of you.
      The same goes with their chucks. I’ve got a VM120 that simply is on another level.
