      Thanks, we try to stay as on point as possible but being happy and playful (real) is more natural for us.
      This camper really is an excellent choice for us and I would suggest it to any couple that enjoys camping.

    We have a 2016 retro. We love it! Different design. The kitchen table is in front and folds down into a full size bed. Our son took it camping with some of his friends and they have fancy new rvs and everyone of them had issues from electric to plumbing but the retro worked like a champion. Its light and so cute! Very functional.

    Keeping the dirty laundry in the shower is good cause you can keep the roof vent cracked open for air flow. Also the garbage can. Great idea guys. !!! Definitely would want a sway control hitch if ur planning on running interstates . Makes a huge difference when a semi passes. I call it the suck n blow if running without a sway control. I found that out years ago going to Canada.

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  11 месяцев назад

      Hey Tomahawk
      Since we've upgraded our tow vehicle (from a 1/2 tone to a 3/4 ton) the issue with sway is all but gone. The first thing we noticed towing with a 3/4 ton was control and reduced sway. After the last big tow with the 1/2 ton (RAM 1500) I was going to purchase a sway control, then opted for the RAM 2500 instead. 😁

    You guys are great! We bought a 189R too. Liked the dual axle feature for safety and the walk around queen bed. One thing ours that we didn't like same as you was the roof AC it came with. That thing is makes way to much noise. My two other RVs I replaced the roof AC with Atwood heat pumps with remote control and should have requested it on the Retro. A heat pump saves expensive propane when you have shore power and the Atwood is easy on the ears. Your electric heater is a good alternative. I agree those tires from China are not very good and need to be replaced before you get a blowout in Wrong Turn Idaho. Hard to find whitewalls though. Oh, keep the baby moon hubcaps waxed because they tend to rust. Keep an eye on your bathroom floor. Many have had problems with leaking pipes and the floor getting soft. The checker board floor is really porous and hard to keep clean. Otherwise those little things are minor compared to the joy of this RV.

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  2 года назад +1

      Hi George, thanks so much for watching our tour. We're considering upgrading the A/C with a heater, Atwood?? I'll have to look them up. Its good to hear you've had a good experience with that brand. When we have a lull I'll check out the bathroom floor as well as a good maintenance check.
      Its good to hear you enjoy your 189r as much as we do!
      Thanks again for watching our tour George!!

    • @georgeb1364
      @georgeb1364 2 года назад +1

      @@RetroRVRecon I would recommend replacing the entire roof AC unit with a heat pump as they cool and heat. The noise is a big factor to check out in advance. Like you said the unit the coach came with makes so much noise that it is hard to talk over it. The Atwood worked good for us but there are others with a lower profile that may be a better choice. I think the units installed by the factory are lowest cost ones just to keep the price down. We tried adding the electric heat strip to an existing roof AC on another coach but it didn't help much. Your portable electric heater works much better compared to the add-on heat strips.

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  2 года назад

      @@georgeb1364 I agree, lowest A/C cost brings the price tag on the camper down. I've often wondered if blower motor is wired correctly, I know from the mulitple wires on motor that the motor itself is a variable speed. I haven't used a fluke (multi-meter) yet but when I have some spare time I plan to. I feel like your option just to replace the A/C with the Atwood will be the best bet. For now the weather is cool... :)

    May I ask where is that cabin that has a brook right outside the door?

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  3 года назад

      Yes, its "Uncle Joe's Cabin" (AirBNB) in Canton North Carolina. Any photos you see on line do not do it justice, this was the best AirBNB we have ever stayed in (Angel, I think you'll agree). Gary, the host, was excellent and the place is as romantic as you could hope for. Angel and I really enjoyed our stay there.

    hi. i just subscribed and correct, no one has done this but you. Be honest is it well made? can’t find any info if it’s insulated or how much wood it is made out of. Does it have any pre-wiring for solar in roof

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  2 года назад

      He again Gene, thanks for the questions.
      As far as the quality...we don't have any real complaints about the quality of material other than the original toilet.
      Worksmanship is another thing, several small issues needed addressing, like the camper connection plug needed to be fixed (it was loose because they did not properly secure it).
      I beleive its an aluminum frame with wood trim inside, it has a solar plug for panels but nothing for external solar panel mounting.
      Insolation, unsure. the heater works a good bit if the temperatures get below freezing.
      I hope this helps and thank you very much for subscribing Gene!!

    Thank you for the good and very thorough honest honest review really appreciate it I do have a couple of questions. We all have different needs and wants so this is going to seem odd I am looking at purchasing one of these because of the style and I will need to mount a very large computer monitor so I can do work while traveling. Was wanting to get your understanding or belief of how sturdy the TV mount is for it looks like I could replace the TV with my computer monitor and pull it out to the dinette and work from there. I was considering the 179 just because I could mount my monitor on the backside of the bathroom wall and be able to put a plate on the wall in the bathroom to help secure it yet this review made me reconsider that if that amount you you think might be sufficient. I could easily pull the monitor off the bracket when needing to move the RV travel I’m only looking at it for it when it is parked secure pulling it out each morning to the table do my work. As it relates to the HVAC do you know if there is an upgrade that could happen. I don’t think I’ll ever really need the AC and you said the heat is fairly quiet but I like the idea of using the electric heat as well just concerned about fire potentially at night something falling over.

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  3 года назад +1

      Hey Marty, first of all thanks for supporting the channel.
      (Monitor)
      The TV monitor came with the RV, if I remember right its about24" wide and the *factory mount* is very stable. It has locking tabs in the back for travel. The TV swings out about 80degrees. Maybe if it was a little smaller it would be able to swing out past 90 degrees and be closer to the dinet. However, the way it swings out now, I have considered wiring my laptop to the TV monitor for PC use because ,as you are thinking, its a nice place to have a monitor while in the camper. If I did wire for PC as it is, I would be happy with the set up.
      -
      (A/C) I really don't know if "Riverside" offers an A/C upgrade, we will tollerate the loud unit until something happens but if anything happens to it, we're getting a NICE upgrade for the A/C.
      Let me know if I can better answer the questions or of I understood your questions properly.
      Thanks!!
      Mike & Angel

      @@RetroRVRecon you’ve answered it perfectly, likely what I would do is remove the monitor TV mount and get one of my own that would hold my 48 inch monitor it’s huge. I have one in my RV now that pulls out really far and telescopes out toward me as well. Just need something really really good to mount it too. Additionally as a relates to AC I will check on an upgrade.

    Loved this video and now interested in this camper. A couple questions. #1 You labeled this toilet as a Dometic 300 high profile. I looked them up on Amazon. Did you mean 310? Reviewers didn’t like the crinkle sounds of the 300 since it’s plastic. #2 Does this camper only come with a tub-shower? What are the benefits for having a small tub (we won’t have kids or pets with). #3 When the dinette is made into a bed, is it long enough for a 5’8” person to sleep? Thanks for taking the time to make this review. It’s so much more helpful to get a customers review than a dealer’s.

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  3 года назад

      Hi Carolyn
      1) the new toilet is the 310 series. When I watched the video I heard my error and added the correct link in the discription above.
      2) I don't know if it has options other than the shower-tub. We didn't ask the dealer and didn't mind the size considering we're weekend explorers. :)
      3) The dinet...It will be a tight fit. We only used it once as a bed and that was for two of our 6 year old grandchildren. I personally don't believe it should be used for a bed, I looked at the construction and I feel that whoever engineered it didn't have an adlut in mind.
      We're very happy with this model and construction. There are a few little things we've found that could use some modifications but all-in-all its a good camper for us and our excursions. It suits us very well and we really enjoy it.
      Thanks, let me know if I answered your questions or if you have more don't hesitate to ask and thanks for watching!!!!

    My friend just bought 2022 165. Sales guy didn't have us try anything out he is waiting on the financing. Sure wish we had known about that AC fan not being controlled by a thermostat. He wants to use it for full time RV'ing. I checked the Retro manual on riversides website it says the thermostat when fan is set to auto it should shut the fan off. Not sure if the 2021 is a different model, or the 189 is different maybe something not right with yours why it does that.

    • @RetroRVRecon
      @RetroRVRecon  Год назад

      I hope your friends 165 A/C works the way you mentioned. I find the manual hard to follow. 😬Ours is LOUD even on low. I haven't taken mine apart to check the wiring, I suspect the crew that wired the motor just miss-wired the switch to the motor making the fan speed HIGH regardless of the switch's position.
      I hear some folks swap out their OEM A/C with an aftermarket brand that has a functional therostat and much quieter.
      Thanks for watching our video! I hope your friend's 165 is all they hope, ours is even though we have a few issues.

      (Sorry for the late reply)
      Overall, no. However we just found a soft spot of floor in the bathroom. I figure its a leak from the seal on the roof. I'm going to have a shop look at it and hopefully fix it soon. I plan to climb up there this weekend to check.
      Other than that we've have good luck with the camper. We have about 20,000 miles on it and other than the new leak I think we"ve done well.
      In my opinion, maintainence is really a huge part of success with any trailer trailer.
