  • When you press the garage door opener does your garage won't open or close and you only hear buzzing or humming sounds? This video shows how to easily fix the issue and get your garage door working again for only few $
    When garage door not closing all the way and we have tried different garage door openers to ensure it is not battery issue, you may think it is broken garage door! .. and the first impulse may be to call garage door repairman or garage door service to get it checked or repaired. Certainly, there are same day garage door services that will fix this at a cost and sometimes we are in time crunch for this. But, if you have some time this garage door repair may be a simple and easy fix that can be done at a much lower cost as I show in this video.
    PARTS:
    Genie 18004-B Garage Door Opener Capacitor
    amzn.to/3u5RG5V (OEM)
    amzn.to/3sjYjzg (the one I used)

    Thank you thank you thank you. I had this issue. I called a local service company to fix. It started with $1200 for a new door opener, and then they told me that, to use it, I would have to drop another $4,500 to replace the door (not that there was anything wrong, but that modern door openers wouldn't fit my older door. Thanks to your video, I fixed the problem for $12, saving me $5,687. Thanks!!!!

    This absolutely worked! My Model is a little older but it made the same noise. I opened the motor and my capacitor was corroded. I ordered a new one and used the tape technique. One note. The 4 wires are 2 yellows and two orange/Red. The capacitor has two sets of connectors each with 2 connectors. You should attach the two yellows to one set and the others to the other. Hello and thanks for the tip. I had replaced the capacitor on my Genius Intelligent garage door and it fixed the problem for two weeks. It is now doing the same humming sound and not opening nor closing. Do you think it might be the circuit board that needs to be replaced? The system is from 1996. Any advise would be helpful. Thank you and merry Christmas.

    • @FlyBeee
      @FlyBeee  2 года назад

      If you have double-checked that nothing is blocking the sensors on either side of the garage door then the problem would be with motor or circuit board. Depending on the type of unit you have, it may be cost effective to replace the garage door opener set completely vs. paying for repairs. I saw some good deals recently on these units. Please look them up. I hope this helps.

      This is very important to charge the capacitor. You could mislead other people that this steps can be skipp! Actually after you discharge the capacitor with a screwdriver serve as a stunt, you should use a long nose pillar to pull the terminals.

    My garage door is having this issue only when I try to open it. I get the hum, but If I pull the safety cord and disconnect from the motor then press the garage door button the motor works. I press the button again to stop it, re-engage the safety cord, then the door is operational again. Could that be the capacitor too? I'll take a look at it.

    • @FlyBeee
      @FlyBeee  Год назад +1

      It sounds like the garage door motor does not have enough oomph / power when pulling the door up - likely a capacitor not providing enough power so worth checking the capacitor. also check the chain and whether it is in good condition. I hope it is an easy and inexpensive fix. Best wishes.

    Yesterday my door would only go halfway down, then reverse back open. This morning it wouldnt even open, only a hum. I opened it manually and I left it open all day. When i tried to close it this evening with the motor, it just hummed. I closed it manually. I pressed the button, and it still hums, even without the load of the door. I hope my capacitor is the issue....

      Would love to know if replacing the capacitor fixed your garage door issue? Please update us all when you get a chance. Thanks

    My capacitor looks fine but my opener is making this exact same noise. Could it still be a bad capacitor?

    • @FlyBeee
      @FlyBeee  Год назад

      In my case the humming sound was coming from the motor. Capacitor only provides power to the motor so to me it looked like capacitor was not providing power to motor causing it to humm. The very visible flux leak from the capacitor made it an easy decision for me to change it. If there was no visible leak from the capacitor I would have still changed it considering (a) I have had the same garage door motor and capacitor for more than 10 years (b) capacitor is more likely to fail from repeated use (c) cost of capacitor replacement is much less than calling a garage door repair person. Your situation and details are most likely different so proceed with DIY or calling a repair company - whichever you think would be best in your situation.

    Hey I'm not sure if you can give me any tips but I also have a genie remote for my garage and it stopped working so I replaced the battery and it lights up when I click it but my garage door will not open at all and I have no other way of getting inside I'm not really entirely sure what to do I tried open the door manually and it seems like it's sealed shut.. any tips?

      To open/close garage manually you will have to disengage the automatic chain. Please watch my video from count 2:50 to 4:20 that shows how to do this. To reconnect please watch from 7:50 onward. As for the red light, this happened a few times with my car's remote! and went away when I reset the remote to factory setting. Please reset and reprogram your remote to the garage door motor and see if that helps.

      @@imemilywilliams In case the transmitter signal is getting interference - Turn off your home WiFi and see if that helps your garage door opening. Other option, hold down the lock button on the transmitter for 5 seconds and then try to open the door. Another option is to use a flex metal rod (open a metal dry cleaning hanger) to pull the red string inside garage - see this video: ruclips.net/video/EAk0t-D-_eo/видео.html If nothing else works then your local locksmith or garage door company can help.

    Mine hums and the light comes on and doesn't open. But if I release it and then click the opener it will grab and open and close it. Do you think its the capacitor?

    • @FlyBeee
      @FlyBeee  3 года назад +1

      When you release the safety pin and dis-engage garage door from the motor and then motor works but when garage door is connected to motor then it does not, then capacitor is likely going bad. I say this because the purpose of a capacitor in a garage door motor is to provide additional power boost to lift open the heavy door. In your situation the motor works fine when the door is disconnected but does not have enough power to lift the garage door when it is connected to motor ... which means the capacitor is not doing its job. I hope this helps.

      If you have not yet reset the garage door opener motor and reprogram the remotes then definitely try it first. The reset button is usually on the motor and you see it when the bulb cover on the motor (that faces the front of garage) is removed. The one on your model may be different so please look it up. If you get a chance, let me know the outcome. Thanks

      @@FlyBeee hello, thanks for replying. Do you have a video to do this? That would be of great help.
      What letters indicate model number for my Genie garage motor? In your video, there are letters starting with HP and then there is model number with letters begining with ACRG.. and resr. Which one is model number for genie garage motor? I am confused.

      @@FlyBeee the remote is not programming. The red light reset on garage motor keeps blinking red for 30 seconds amd goes away. Pressing the remiote control to programm it is not working. Where can I buy a hew remote for genie garage motor?

      @@jakeb8298 It is possible that your (or your neighbors) home wifi or devices like roku, nest may be messing with the garage door opener frequency causing it to not work. Power off home wifi and then check garage door opener / try to program it. To minimize radio frequency interruption some people had success by placing 2 ft by 2 ft piece of aluminum foil over the garage door opener (I am not kidding on this one!) Worth a try! If you decide to go the route of new remote: in US, Walmart and Home Depot, and in Canada the 'Canadian Tire' carries Genie and universal remotes.

      @@jakeb8298 I don't have a video but from your other reply I think you found the correct way which is to press on the 'learn' button on the garage door opener, and when red light is on, within 30 seconds press the button on the opener. Pretty much all openers and HomeLink in vehicles are programmed the same way.
