  • Have you ever wondered how exactly astrophotography filters work, or which ones you should be using to optimize your imaging setup? Perhaps you've asked the question: "What is the actual difference between a $200 filter and $1000 filter?" In this presentation, Jim will guide you through the fundamentals of the different filter types and how they work, and provide guidance on how to select the filter that is right for you. He'll also discuss some more advanced filter-related topics such as: using filters with fast optics, the multi-narrowband filter arms race, how narrow is too narrow, and star halos. You can review Jim's large library of filter test reports by going to his website: karmalimbo.com/aro/
Jim Thompson graduated from Carleton University in 1996 with a Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, specializing in aerodynamics and propulsion.
