I once went to a construction meeting at an airport, and the person in charge of the airfield chewed out the construction crew for putting concrete barriers anywhere in the vicinity of the runway. This is why.
As a pilot who has done he's training on this particular aircraft the b737 800 i must say he probably lost all hydraulics that includes flaps gears and spoilers which forced the aircraft to approach at extremely high speeds. We dont even know if the pilots had any other feasible alternates within their reach that could accommodate their emergency apart from the one they attemped to land at ending in this unfortunate disaster. Wall at the end of the runway could be to prevent any aircrafts from skidding outside of the airport and cause more fatalities to the civlians there but still airport management shouldn't have residents living beside the airport and should provide all means to safe or minimise casualties from auch accidents by using gravel or longer clearways/stop ways. May they rest in oeace

I have a question, sir. If there is no hydraulic system... then they can't fly far, isn't? Moreover, it wouldnt be better go on the water like Unite Airline pilot did some years before?
@@dsbigboss6212 In my opinion , if emergency arise like this, do not rush just keep calm ask a holding point get all information available, do the emergency check list prepare all as convenient as possible then landing. It’s not enough time if we got some emergency on final then go around make a circle then landing again except fuel leak .
Everyone is focusing on the Gear being up, the much more severe issue is the fact that the Flaps are not down which explains the excessive speed and points to a much larger issue!
In my opinion, it looks like the pilot tried to take off again, but there was no runway. Maybe he panicked? Was he an experienced pilot? In 2011, in Poland, Captain Wrona successfully landed with the landing gear retracted. All 230 passengers and 11 crew members survived. This accident in Korea did not have to end so tragically...
I have no idea if there is flaps or spoilers deployed but jeez it looks fast. Was it a late touch down?? Also does anyone think they could have burn more fuel before attempting the approach?
It does look alarmingly fast. I see no sign of flaps or spoilers; I believe these are deployed electrically while the landing gear are deployed hydraulically, so lack of both seems to point to multiple failures. The thrust reversers appear to be working, but not slowing the plane much. They can dump fuel before an emergency landing (no need to burn it); maybe they did that or maybe something prevented them. It doesn't take much jet fuel to cause a ferocious fire. Anyhow this is why you shouldn't put a concrete wall at the end of a runway.
They had no wheels deployed. They attempted multiple go arounds before this belly landing, which makes it even crazier that they still chose that runway knowing it was obstructed by a wall at the end. You have no stopping power without wheels, brakes, flaps, or reverse engine thrust...
I dont see any speed brakes up. Plus they should have had Max reverse since they have no landing gear to slow down with brakes. My deepest condolences to the families
No flap, no landing gear means high speed approach need longer runway and should precise touch down, video showing start from opposite touch down area that means almost end of the runway? My condolences to all the victims.
@@Klp578 planes do belly landings and no flap landings all the time but this one was way down the runway if they atte6it it further back they would have stopped
I’m not sure the pilot knew there was a wall at the end of the runway. A 737 no flaps and no reverse thrust. Will be going 185 on landing. Need to check flight aware to see landing speed. Should of landed in the grass if he knew the wall was there.

Because the right engine was open in thrust reserve position for decrease speed, and yes the LOT in Poland was successful belly landing maybe because the accuracy and speed of landing time depends on the length of the runway, in my opinion..

Not the same this barrier is right at the end of runway they touched down way too late
What sealed their fate is the massive dirt mound on the other side of that wall.

No landing gear, no flaps indicates a total hydraulic failure? and a wall at end of runway is strange. RIP to all departed souls
Pilot still trying to fly it but its too late. If he turn off the engine and use the flaps he couldve saved those passengers.
I think the pilot panics when he realize the landing gear didnt deploy and still proceed to fly it.
@@leopard411 flight controls and thrust reversers are hydraulic, so it can't be total hydraulic failure
Please accept our condolences to the passengers' families; our relatives could have found themselves in a similar situation.

At the end of the runway, it is usually farmland, wasteland, or water. But the South Koreans built a wall there. Quite unusual.
There's a wall at every airport usually not solid but made of lights it would bring down any jet that hits it
It’s a small hill for the ILS antenna thing

no flaps either

Demasiado raro ese accidente. Muy sospechoso para lo avanzado de la tecnología aeronáutica actual.
