Steel vengeance has an amazing drop in the back row. Getting flung over that 90 degree drop is like no other... I love it, it’s probably be in the top 3 drops for me!
I was fortunate enough to ride the Beast before the trim breaks. Hands down, the best overall coaster experience. Imagine slamming into that second lift hill's chain at top speed and making it 3/4 of the way to the top before engaging the chain. That's what it use to do at night on a hot summer day! Voyage, no trim brakes at night comes really close. El Toro kicks butt. Oddly KI's Vortex in the back seat was gut wrenchingly good. Same with the last car of Raging Bull. So much was thrown into Steel vengeance. Is there such a thing as being too good? MF's back seat is incredible. My overall winner? The Super Bobs at the old Adventure Land amusement park outside of Chicago. You had to be 16 or older to ride in the backseat. There weren't any seat belts and the ejector air was served up in heavy doses. It's amazing that no one was killed. At the bottom of the first drop I was nearly standing in my seat..every time. Zero safety features. Terrifying.....
Cannibal at Lagoon has to be my favorite drop. The over invert at the insane height of 200 feet is so unique and the dive coaster element of stopping before hand makes it unbeatable
This list was kind of frustrating. There were parts that made sense and others that seemed really GP. Otherwise a good video. Have you ever ridden Cannibal at lagoon?
CJ Art For me the appeal of Coaster Fanatics is that Patrick has idiosyncratic tastes and he runs with them. I seldom agree with an entire list of his, and he just about never conforms to conventional enthusiast wisdom, but that makes his videos unpredictable and enjoyable.
StamfordBridge I completely agree. And the more I think about it, I like that some of his choices are always general enthusiast picks. I like that he has the positive outlook on all coasters out there. Kind of like theme park worldwide. I sometimes get sick of hearing about all the enthusiast coasters

I completely agree with this list. The beast is one of my favorites and I think the trim breaks at the top of the drop into the helix only make the climax of the ride more suspenseful. POVs don’t give The Beast what it deserves.
CoasterFanatics Ever since I did go to HersheyPark but didn't fit on Skyrush... was the airtime better on Phantom or on Skyrush? I'm working on loosing weight and saving to go to HersheyPark again next year for vacation.
Phantom doesn't even have my favorite drop at the park. I'll take Jack Rabbit's double-drop (if you can classify it as the same drop). It's amazing how perfectly engineered that drop is given how old it is.
Always amazes me how long the line is for the Kennywood Jack Rabbit. It's close to 100 years old but it never "gets old". That double-dip drops from a height of 70 feet and it still thrills. Listen to those screams - they are REAL.

I live between Hershey and Kings Dominion! Busch Gardens is right down the way and I also got Idlewild, Kenny wood, Six Flaggs America and Dutch Wonderland not too far away

The Beast actually always had trims on the drop and in every location they are now. The older trims actually slowed it down way more. In a few POV's from the opening year, it barely makes it to the second lift and the final breaks, but it flies into both of those now.

The Beast has a really good drop but Intimidator 305 is my number 1. There's nothing like being thrown forward again the should harness as you drop 300 feet at 90 mph.

A couple of good drops I like are the one on X2 at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The seats rotate forward to take you down the nearly straight down 215 foot drop face first. At the bottom you complete the full rotation. Then there’s Cannibal at Lagoon in Utah. This drop is 208 feet at 116 degrees and drops into an underground tunnel. It’s still about the fourth steepest in the world.
The only way the drop of TTD can be better than the launch is to be in the back car. That's why I say "People think it's a one trick pony, but if you ride in the back you get an launch AND and drop". It seems you're one of the people who figured that out. Thanks for posting!

My favourite roller coaster drops are these 3 from Canada’s Wonderland: Leviathan, behemoth and Yukon striker. Amazing roller coasters with incredible huge drops

Yes , there are more intense drops than the BEAST'S , but that coaster was a measuring stick at that time through the 70's and 80's ,if it wasn't for that coaster ,we might not have coasters like STEEL VENGANCE , but were is the Cyclone at Astro Land ( Coney Island ) ??????
I definitely agree with you on Steel Vengence. Though the drop is cool with it being 90° and all, but it's nowhere near as intense as anything else after it. I feel the same way about Maverick.

It's good to not only have your own unique opinion, but to be able to explain your chain of thought without making it superior to all others is a breath of fresh air. I like the way you referred to simular experiences without just putting the same kind of rides on top of each other, such as when you acknowledged Kingda Ka's drop compared to your 2nd choice Top Thrill Dragster. I have only ridden Kingda Ka of the two, and that is the most intense launch and drop I have ever experienced. I also rank El Toro's drops and Nitro's drops very high. I also enjoyed the drop on Hydrus at Casino Pier. I haven't ridden a lot of coasters, but the beauty of everything is that lists and opinions change as new experiencces occur. Great job!
I'm still trying to get over how hot you are. That face reveal definitely ranks 2nd only to Steele Vengeance reveal for all things Rollercoaster 2018 in my opinion! Your following must have increased afterwards. That said, still the best reviews period!
oh I see, I still stand by that statement. I think if you ask people overseas which wood coaster they know about in the states I think they would think of the beast over cyclone.
CoasterFanatics I would have to disagree. The Beast is known to people who know coasters, but the Cyclone is familiar to people who’ve never ridden one in their lives. It’s a NYC landmark, along with the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building (not on the level of recognition as those two sites, but in the same kind of category). If you ask people in, say, Ghana, Peru, and Thailand to name an American roller coaster, most people won’t know any, but probably 1-2 percent would name the Cyclone, while those who name the Beast would have to be .001%. Of course, I’m just making up those numbers as my guesses.
I love mavericks drop as well. Didn't quite make top ten though. I kind of limited the cedar point coasters otherwise half the list would have been about cedar point.

AGV! Solid list. I don't really take the time to analyse to the point of ranking, but I do know that the drops are what drew me to loving coasters oh so long ago. I prefer them tall straight and steep, but as your list points out there are some great ones that aren't! I don't have many coasters to choose from, but until now my favourite drop is defenitely the first drop from Lost Gravity located at walibi holland. especially at the front left side!

What about TT in the back row in >90 degree weather? You get whipped over like crazy. And you get thrown to the side. And I think it's the steepest barrel roll drop, and you can feel that. Probably my favorite drop.
Wanna know something sad... I was at kings island 2 days ago and I waited 40+ mins for the beast and we were the next to go and the ride go stuck or something and we couldn’t ride it anymore 😔😔
Wow now these are all phenomenal drops on phenomenal rollercoasters! Some of my favorites drops include El Toro, Nitro, Goliath at your home park SFGam, Steel Vengeance, Fury 325, both Intimidators, and Twisted Timbers with its inverted drop! I got to ride Goliath at Six Flags Great America for the first time and wow I was blown away by that RMC!
Ryan Frieman yes, it’s extremely rough. If you don’t mind the bumpiness I suppose you would still like it, But I personally would put it into the top 5 wooden coasters.
@@ryanfrieman733 Ride it in the front seat or a non wheel seat near the front of the train. Its surprisingly smooth. Sadly you'll feel the magnetic trims more, though. They've never been much of a problem for me but once in a while it can kill a good Beast ride. P.s. brace yourself for the entrance of the helix tunnel. It will slam you into the side of the car if you don't brace yourself.
How come Oblivion wasn’t on this list even though it was the first ever rollercoaster with a vertical drop. It’s one of my favourite rides at Alton Towers. Kinda frustrating tbh.
I guess it depends on who you are. For me everytime I look at it I see a copy of Top Thrill Dragster But that's just me. That's why I would say I gravitate towards El Toro more.
Really the Beast as a whole is hard to describe if you have never ridden it. POV's can never give you the feeling you get when you ride it. Its even hard for me to describe how it feels right now!
Do you have plans to visit California? I’d be interested to see where you would rank X2. It’s the only drop that scares me every time. The way you can’t see it coming... the way you’re face down to the ground... the flip at the bottom. The rest of my top 5 would be: Wonder Woman/ Railblazer, Iron Rattler, Twisted Colossus, Goldstriker.
I fairly agree with the list. I almost got upset that Steel Vengeance missed it, but I actually kinda see your point. This list is of roller coasters where the drop is most significant. SV has a great first drop, but the whole ride in itself is too good that it’s not as significant. Also I’m wondering why TTD over Ka since Ka is taller. And I guess compared to i305, Melli Force’s drop is more significant and has a better view.

Skyrush has better airtime although Phantom has some crazy moments of airtime right at the end.

I think the first operating year, they didn’t have any trims.
They say it used to go 70mph, but then some test riders rode it and said it was too intense.
We call the drop going into the helix on the Beast “The back breaker”..lol…it is awesome - even after riding it a million times …it is still fun!

My Favourite drop is the one of Kärnan here in Germany. 200ft Tall, twisted, vertical and enclosed in the Dark... its really mental
Yes , there are more intense drops than the BEAST'S , but that coaster was a measuring stick at that time through the 70's and 80's ,if it wasn't for that coaster ,we might not have coasters like STEEL VENGANCE , but were is the Cyclone at Astro Land ( Coney Island ) ??????

I definitely agree with you on Steel Vengence. Though the drop is cool with it being 90° and all, but it's nowhere near as intense as anything else after it. I feel the same way about Maverick.

It's good to not only have your own unique opinion, but to be able to explain your chain of thought without making it superior to all others is a breath of fresh air. I like the way you referred to simular experiences without just putting the same kind of rides on top of each other, such as when you acknowledged Kingda Ka's drop compared to your 2nd choice Top Thrill Dragster. I have only ridden Kingda Ka of the two, and that is the most intense launch and drop I have ever experienced. I also rank El Toro's drops and Nitro's drops very high. I also enjoyed the drop on Hydrus at Casino Pier. I haven't ridden a lot of coasters, but the beauty of everything is that lists and opinions change as new experiencces occur. Great job!

oh I see, I still stand by that statement. I think if you ask people overseas which wood coaster they know about in the states I think they would think of the beast over cyclone.
CoasterFanatics I would have to disagree. The Beast is known to people who know coasters, but the Cyclone is familiar to people who’ve never ridden one in their lives. It’s a NYC landmark, along with the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building (not on the level of recognition as those two sites, but in the same kind of category). If you ask people in, say, Ghana, Peru, and Thailand to name an American roller coaster, most people won’t know any, but probably 1-2 percent would name the Cyclone, while those who name the Beast would have to be .001%. Of course, I’m just making up those numbers as my guesses.
Where’s maverick? I know that drop is small but it is really awesome!
I love mavericks drop as well. Didn't quite make top ten though. I kind of limited the cedar point coasters otherwise half the list would have been about cedar point.

AGV! Solid list. I don't really take the time to analyse to the point of ranking, but I do know that the drops are what drew me to loving coasters oh so long ago. I prefer them tall straight and steep, but as your list points out there are some great ones that aren't! Thanks for not putting any beyond verticals on the list as I think that claim tends to take away from the ride experience. Once again, Patrick Another Great Video!

Make sure you ride in the back car! It is by far the best place to be and the drop is a completely different experience than the front.

What about TT in the back row in >90 degree weather? You get whipped over like crazy. And you get thrown to the side. And I think it's the steepest barrel roll drop, and you can feel that. Probably my favorite drop.

Wanna know something sad... I was at kings island 2 days ago and I waited 40+ mins for the beast and we were the next to go and the ride go stuck or something and we couldn’t ride it anymore 😔😔

Wow now these are all phenomenal drops on phenomenal rollercoasters! Some of my favorites drops include El Toro, Nitro, Goliath at your home park SFGam, Steel Vengeance, Fury 325, both Intimidators, and Twisted Timbers with its inverted drop! I got to ride Goliath at Six Flags Great America for the first time and wow I was blown away by that RMC!

Ryan Frieman yes, it’s extremely rough. If you don’t mind the bumpiness I suppose you would still like it, But I personally would put it into the top 5 wooden coasters.
It's not the worst helix. It's a little bumpy. I've been on easy worse like boss at six flags St Louis.

@@ryanfrieman733 Ride it in the front seat or a non wheel seat near the front of the train. Its surprisingly smooth. Sadly you'll feel the magnetic trims more, though. They've never been much of a problem for me but once in a while it can kill a good Beast ride. P.s. brace yourself for the entrance of the helix tunnel. It will slam you into the side of the car if you don't brace yourself.
How come Oblivion wasn’t on this list even though it was the first ever rollercoaster with a vertical drop. It’s one of my favourite rides at Alton Towers. Kinda frustrating tbh.

I guess it depends on who you are. For me everytime I look at it I see a copy of Top Thrill Dragster But that's just me. That's why I would say I gravitate towards El Toro more.

Really the Beast as a whole is hard to describe if you have never ridden it. POV's can never give you the feeling you get when you ride it. Its even hard for me to describe how it feels right now!

Do you have plans to visit California? I’d be interested to see where you would rank X2. It’s the only drop that scares me every time. The way you can’t see it coming... the way you’re face down to the ground... the flip at the bottom. The rest of my top 5 would be: Wonder Woman/ Railblazer, Iron Rattler, Twisted Colossus, Goldstriker.
I haven't visited any parks in California except for Knotts in 2003. I plan on doing a california trip next year if everything goes well.

I fairly agree with the list. I almost got upset that Steel Vengeance missed it, but I actually kinda see your point. This list is of roller coasters where the drop is most significant. SV has a great first drop, but the whole ride in itself is too good that it’s not as significant. Also I’m wondering why TTD over Ka since Ka is taller. And I guess compared to i305, Melli Force’s drop is more significant and has a better view.
Thank you, yeah I like dragster better because it's the original and it doesn't have a brake at the top that slows the train down like kingda ka has. Also I think you get a better view on dragster.
