Meat alone isn't what causes heart attacks. Our bodies are designed to eat meat and fruits and veggies. However, now people are eating meat that is greasy and served with fatty foods like onion rings and fries and other stuff. So meat alone isn't bad, it's the stuff it's with.

It's really not if you know how to shop. I can buy ground beef for $2.50/lb at BJ's wholesale club. To feed me for an entire year at that price point would cost less than $2,000, which is about half what the average person spends just on groceries in a year. There's plenty of wiggle room in the budget to buy fancier cuts/other types of meat.
