I believe the supernatural parts were ordered by the studio to copy A Nightmare on Elm Street. Personally I hate it when franchises try to copy each other. I think the Halloween franchise ruined itself in part 2 when it tried to be more like Friday the 13th.

The most unbelievable teleportation scene is where Jason is chasing the Principal in New York, He is clearly far behind him, The Principal goes into a building, The Camera pans to the second story, and Jason somehow was there and throws him out the window before drowning him in toxic waste. Personally for me the original Friday the 13th is a murder mystery revenge slasher about a crazy mother. The rest after starting with part 2 are just the Jason B movie slasher series in the context of the series I can still watch this one as an ok time waster just for Jason and some of the entertainment value. The biggest faults here are not enough New York and the convoluted overly supernatural ending seems he wanted Jason to be presented as a ghost-type figure haunting the lake and the ending was meant to symbolize his spirit being set free which is way too overtly supernatural for the series. You don't really need Jason going to all the popular New York places you just need to have fun with the idea of Jason himself in New York all this movie needed to do was have Jason go on big New York rampages and it would have worked Jason attacking a play and killing a bunch of people Jason killing a bunch on a subway Jason killing a bunch of people in the police station literally all this movie needed was more New York fun and it would have worked as an entertaining B movie Jason slasher.

Well they were cash grabs for a while it’s the reason they kept churning them out way after their sell by date but most of them weren’t as sloppy as this one, even part 5 with its weirdo twist had a more cohesive sense of structure to it

It’s got some good Jason scenes in it, the mean old teacher guy is one of those great jerk characters you’re so looking forward to see die, julius is a good character, they should have been daring and let him live and be the hero because he was a hell of a lot more charismatic and likeable than the pretty boy they had survive. I love the scene where Beautiful young Kelly Hu gets hunted down and throttled, very tense I always thought. They survivor girl is the worst in the franchise though I really don’t like her she’s a dull drip. They go down about forty feet to the dingy to escape the sinking ship and there’s no dog in the dingy, but when they’re all in the dingy the dog is in it, it was too far to throw the dog into the water and it was physically impossible for them to have carried the dog down and climbed down the small rope ladder at the same time, just one of the movie’s many annoying inconsistencies.. I think they should have just had jason terrorising a boat and Harv that he what made the movie different, and they should shown uh girl’s flashback to when she was a girl and she encountered Jason’s child ghost?? At the beginning, at least that would have offered some slight semblance of an explanation as to why she’s repeatedly haunted the the spectre!

I don't know why, but Epix Drive-In fixed it a year later by replacing Part V with Part VII (showing it in chronological order, leaving out Part V). That being said, Part VIII sucked so bad, Paramount (the studio that brought you Beverly Hills Cop, The Untouchables, Fatal Attraction, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Airplane!, The Naked Gun, Star Trek and The Godfather) want nothing to do with the franchise anymore so they sold it to New Line Cinema (Pre-Ted Turner era). Paramount put out 2 crapfested sequels (Jason Takes Manhattan and Star Trek V: The Final Frontier) and it shows.

I saw this in theaters when i was 7 with my 13 year old brother and my dad in Omaha and MY GOD it sucked, yet there's a few things i like about it even Darkest Side but still a pile of crap.
my first friday the 13th movie in theatres, my friend and i were 13 and snuck in. was fun at the time , even though its not a good movie. some of the kills were fun. horrible ending , very lazy and dumb writing. taking Jason away from Camp blood is not a good idea although Jason x was kinda fun lol , anyhow bad bad writing.
Only thing I really like about this is that song and you know what it is ha ha this one is a long ass boring cruise Jason gets to new York then fucks around in the shit sewers of Manhattan. also when rennie pours the toxic waste on Jason that looked cheap as hell and awful Jason turning into a kid again was stupid aside from Julius the characters aren't much in this and he gets a great kill but honestly that's it I don't watch this that much.

my first friday the 13th movie in theatres, my friend and i were 13 and snuck in. was fun at the time , even though its not a good movie. some of the kills were fun. horrible ending , very lazy and dumb writing. taking Jason away from Camp blood is not a good idea although Jason x was kinda fun lol , anyhow bad bad writing.
Only thing I really like about this is that song and you know what it is ha ha this one is a long ass boring cruise Jason gets to new York then fucks around in the shit sewers of Manhattan.
also when rennie pours the toxic waste on Jason that looked cheap as hell and awful Jason turning into a kid again was stupid aside from Julius the characters aren't much in this and he gets a great kill but honestly that's it I don't watch this that much.
So that’s where the money for Star Trek V went!
Funny how with this franchise and Star Wars, part 8 is the worst one. Fun rant.

Only thing good about this is The intro song darkest side of the night, Kane Hodder, And The Julius kill. Other then that this movie was ass.
This one is still better than the lame remake.
I respectfully disagree. The remake to me isn't even that bad of a movie and it's miles better than this one is.
