The NORDEN table is really heavy (don't get the white version since it's not solid wood but costs the same as the natural solid wood version) so I put wheels on mine. Works great!
As far as mounting, drilling, and painting, etc. in apartments, to be honest, most landlords don’t really care as long as you put everything back the way you found it when you move out. Take photos of everything you remove, add, paint, hook, nail, etc. If you change out your knobs, outlet covers, draw handles, etc., keep the old ones in a bag and throw it in a closet or under the sink. When you decide to move again, just take everything back out and match up with the photos you took.
Please still read your lease as some landlords are anal and money hungry thus will keep that security deposit because of changing things or even just having a few too many nail holes :/
@@ThexDynastxQueen yeah that happened to my brother when he moved. He had a big ikea entertainment center that was anchored to the wall and even tho he filled the holes and repainted it, the landlord wouldn’t give back the deposit :(
Depends on your country. In my state in Aus they’re only just introducing laws this year that you can make minor changes (such as putting a nail in the wall) in rentals without landlord permission.
Dear Nick, Only a person who has lived in an apartment (like yourself) is intuitive about how to live in a small premium space. I LOVE that you address that we can have quality even in a small space. Maybe even better because it is small! We can afford to splurge on a few nice things. Then balance the budget with IKEA.
I can vouch for the Norden table! Mine has napkins, candles, makeup, skincare, crafts, and medicine in it! It was honestly a game changer, our apartment is tiny so it’s also used as a desk & makeup table lol.
I love my Norden table! When I bought it I lived in a tiny studio apartment, and that table was basically my kitchen lol. All my cutlery, cups and glasses, kitchen towels, tea/coffee, bags of oatmeal and rice, some spices and canned food: everything fit in those drawers! Now that I have much more storage space I keep things like paper cupcake cups and other small baking-related items in it - and napkins & candles :)
2:18 I added wheels to a white one of these tables and have it in my filming studio! It usually sits between my camera and me, but I can roll it wherever if it needs to move. The drawers are perfect for things I frequently need for filming, and if I ever need a bigger surface to put things on, I just open it up into table mode then fold it back down when I’m done.

This video was in my recommended because I watch a lot of interior design channels and I must say I really love the way you do the video's. It's very informative and to the point while also visually easy to look at without too many distractions or 'fun stories' that often make these types of video's much longer than they need to be. When I watch other video's like this I often find myself skipping thirty seconds to like a full minute because what the host is saying is simply not relevant, but with this video it's just everything you need to know to understand what can help and what can be useful. So thank you for these ideas, and you've definitely gained a fan here!
Ok I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see some ideas I've had in these videos be "designer approved". Like the LACK floating shelves as nightstands, I did that and then my friend who did my apartment remodelling was like "I wouldn't do that... I don't know... blablabla" but now I'm even more certain I made the right choice!
I live in an appartment and I love the Kalax system, I have been able to store plenty of things in those: my motorcycle equipment (helmets fits perfectly in these), books (you can put quite some heavy books, things you can't really do on a lack shelf), things that I want to hide in general because hey have plenty of pretty baskets in which you can put things you don't necessarily want to showcase. Also I've bought two of the 1x1 unit, put four wheels under it, the small drawer module inside, and I have two cute night stands that sits next to my "Nordli" so I can roll them around when I need to access the drawers near the head. Ikea is amazing for apartments.
Totally agree. It's much harder to design smaller spaces because you have to make the most out of the limited resources you have. Love your channel too!
I have those white/gold legs on a Besta cabinet in my living room and they are BEAUTIFUL. Plus came with correct size screws for the furniture making it a flawless install. Can’t recommend Pretty Pegs enough!
Can confirm that the Norden table is great! We’ve used it as a side table for a couch, additional drawers for PC desk and as a console table, depends where you move it (when folded of course). Better go for the wooden one and not the white one, they’re made from different materials. The only downside is the weight of those table ‘wings’ 😅
I believe ikea also has leg options. Well they used to. Lol They would be separate purchase like the ones you found (but they used to offer ones to change out on the couches). Or you could paint them or give them a quick spray. Just found like your ideas.
I've lived in MANY rentals for MANY years and they are all different. Most large complexes don't allow much, but when you rent from individually owned homes or apartments they are often more lax with what you can do, especially if you seem to be a long-termer.
I have the lack shelves as bedside tables since 2016 and they are still going strong. Love them! One thing though, they are not best in humid environments like kitchens or bathrooms, as the paint will flake and they will not be so durable. Plus side, they are quite cheap, so you can change them whenever they are no longer in great shape. I also like that they come in different colours, so this is a way of personalizing the space.
I also would vouch for the Norden table, however also I would warn people that it is pretty heavy. So if you intend to move it around quite a bit then it might be worth going to an ikea store and trying to lift the Norden to see if it is something you are happy to move about. I am very happy with my Norden and recommend it endlessly to everyone, but also just want people to have the great experience I have had with mine and be aware that it is on the heavy side.

I like that Nordern table...this is the first time I have seen it. I remember my grandfather built something like that on the wall in his small kitchen in the mid-60's. The leg would fold in and the table leaf would fold down when you needed more space. Overall, it was a great design for 3 people who wanted to sit around the table eating or playing cards. I realize you couldn't do that in an apartment because of the damage it would create...but, it was a great idea.

What about all the space below the “bedside shelf” tho... It’s real estate wasted because if you put anything there it’ll look unorganized and cluttery. How is that better than getting a really slim bedside piece with close-door storage in it?

haha I love that! so cute
I love your Channel! 😍
We live in 500 square feet! THANK YOU!
The Norden table is always sold out but I need it!
love this video-----so much good information! Appreciate it!
Glad it was helpful!
I love IKEA, but I don't want my Town Home to look like it stepped out of an IKEA catalog. Can you recommend furniture retailers which specialize in smaller scale quality sofas and case goods? My style is basically transitional with some oriental accents. Thank you! :)
I have an armoire from Ikea that I love!!!
Nick, would you do a video on options for bedside lighting.
Would you out a mirror at the end of a dining table????
Vancouver?! I'm from Vancouver Island! Love your channel
Small spaces for people living in North America (even in ny) are like castles in Paris and midle size spaces in the rest of France
My biggest struggle living in apartments has been storing bulky outdoor and sports equipment, bikes, skis, car racks, surfboards etc.
It’s a great video. Thanks Kick. Some of the stuff is really interesting. However the money starts to stack up, especially if you’re only renting out temporarily.
Norden table is the best. Can be hacked too so it doesn't have that bottom bar.
I love your videos ! I learn a lot from you!
Love your tips. Thanks!
We literally have the table!! Super convenient for our 500sf apartment!
What about all the space below the “bedside shelf” tho... It’s real estate wasted because if you put anything there it’ll look unorganized and cluttery. How is that better than getting a really slim bedside piece with close-door storage in it?
I when I lived in a dorm or 500sq. ft apt I would store : vitamins, pjs, towels or intimate items in my night stand.
sockerbit: sugar cube ;)
Hi Nick, I just found your channel and I love it! I live in Vancouver too and I've had TWO floods from my neighbours and things are still a mess because I've broken my ankle then I broke my leg and arm at the same time while having dialysis 😵💫 Do you know a good trustworthy professional that could sort my apartment and me out? Lol. Thanks in advance! 😊
What is that clock? I need it
Very very helpful. Thanks for sharing these products. New subscriber here and greetings from Austria
